  1. Listening to "Way Over Deadline" now. It's good music, but doesn't inspire me to listen to a whole album at once. I realized I have "Drums From the Dawn of Time" on my computer. I listened to that whole album again, and realized why I'd removed it from my iTunes library. It's music that would be best as one song in a set, not a whole album at a time.
  2. ^ A good song has a story with progression. If you try to make every second of the song equivalent to a peak, you end up with monotonous, boring shit, even if it's super energetic.
  3. You mean the main melody that sounds sort of like a flute? I'd guess it's a sampled real flute (of some sort). Also, AWESOME song! Gotta check that album in your signature now!
  4. Lunar Civilization, when the main melody comes in at about 4:30 and again at 8:00. Actually I like the Pleiadians remix better, and I feel it builds toward that melody a little better, but unfortunately it takes 9 and a half minutes to get there and only lasts for 30 seconds in that version.

    Mind Rewind

I wish I could buy it, but moneys are tight. Probably be sold out by the time I can.
  6. I LOVE that cover! Gotta check the samples when I get home...
  7. I suggest lowering your standards and taking up boredom. That helps me be more or less content with Netflix.
  8. ^ Sorry, headphones are never an adequate substitute for good monitors and acoustics when it comes to mixing. It doesn't matter how people listen to it in the end.
  9. Yeah, it might be straddling the border between trance and psytrance, but no big deal. Comments: It's fucking loud (I hate extreme compression). There's a break at about 3 minutes that doesn't really serve any purpose. Otherwise.....it's not bad, but doesn't have anything that really makes it stand out.
  10. Oh man, I didn't see this thread before, but..........Old Boy is a crazy movie, and that fight scene is awesome! I'm not big into martial arts movies, but Old Boy is just a crazy fucking movie!
  11. I'm asking this question here because hardly anyone goes to the Music Making/Production forum. Electrypnose's song "Out There" from Sweet Sadness has a wonderful-sounding stereo synth that comes in about 0:40, and I'm wondering what it is. It is a long filter-sweep, lasts until about 1:15: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZgS6gQAKdxs#t=0m40s I'm wondering what synth it is. It sounds very analog, but it's hard to tell these days. I looked at Electrypnose's site, and out of the hardware synths listed these stand out as the most likely culprits: Moog Prodigy Yamaha CS-30 Possibly the Waldorf Q Anyone happen to know? Mars or Anoebis, you guys have an inside scoop with him?
  12. Wow, I really like that "Mass Hysteria"! I've never bought a music download but I might have to start with this!
  13. My Macbook Pro has a Core 2 Duo and 2GB memory, and I've never lacked for power. I've never used Reaper so I don't know how good its MIDI is. You might consider other options if you're going to be making sequence-based music, although I imagine you're looking at Reaper because it's cheap. Lots of people use Cubase or Live. Live is good in it's looping but the MIDI editing isn't as good as other programs.
  14. I also live in Portland, Oregon, USA. I grew up in Oregon but not Portland.
  15. It's not just the 16ths, it's the dominance and repetitiveness of the bassline.
  16. I liked that song except for the bass line. Of course this is a full-on topic so it's understandable, I just feel it could have been a better song without a full-on bass line.
  17. Wow, I had no idea you could link to a specific time in a Youtube video! I'll give that a try here. Not sure where you draw the line between happy and cheesey, but by your examples I'm going to go with "somewhat less than total evil" up to "I love unicorns!". I would only characterize the last two as "happy". Try these I guess. They're not entirely happy either, but not totally evil: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CGka5W_jXoM#t=6m15s http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cTmHoRdNUQI#t=4m03s

    Skyline

I thought it was cheesey and predictable and had bad writing and acting, but was fun.
  19. I don't go to many of my local parties because usually music without melody dominates. I can dance to maybe one song like that before it just gets annoying.
  20. I'm not really sure. My mind is less than fully-functional lately.
  21. If you're talking about 'cranks', then I guess I misunderstood your use of the phrase "popular science". Besides, I was just being sarcastic and trying to push your buttons anyway.
  22. Ah come on! Popular science makes us dummies feel smart!
