That's it, a pretty heavy phaser. Kind of fast?
-
I can't say I have any frame of reference for the twilight style, but my first reactions are that it sounds kind of...fuzzy. Not just distortion, but like a scrappy, loose kind of fuzzy that makes it seem like an old car held together with duct tape lurching down the road. I'm guessing it's some combination of distortion, slightly too long release times and possibly an flange/phaser/chorus effect with a lot of feedback (causing a bit of a tail). I think it would sound better if it were just a little cleaner sounding. Also the chord progression gets tired by the end of the song.

Sounds good, although I'd say the last 1:30 or so is kind of extraneous. The majority of it is great.

Yeah I checked Saiko first because I prefer them but they didn't have them either. Just ordered from Beatspace. Thanks for the suggestion! I usually forget about them and pretty much any other place other than Psyshop or Saiko because they're the only 2 I've used.

This is just a rant. I got a Visa gift card for Christmas and wanted to buy some music with it. I placed an order on Monday at Psyshop for: Alienapia - Goapocalipsis Blue Planet Corporation - A Blueprint for Survival Chi-A.D. - Infinitism Tuesday I get the email that my order was denied. I then found out I had to register the gift card with my name, address and what not to make online purchases. Makes sense. So I did that and re-placed the order. I got another email today that the order was denied again. OK I say; fuck it. I'll just use my normal debit card for the music and use the gift card for food or whatever. BUT NO! I can't, because between yesterday and today Psyshop became out of stock on the BPC and Chi-A.D. albums. GRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow, that sucks. I've got the Goasia album from Kagdila and it's my favorite buy of the year. I hate to think my money didn't get to the artist!
-
What's this? I don't know what you're referring to.

Hey! Please pay attention to the "super-accurate" comment I made! Therefore you know it is not only accurate, but super-accurate! You're welcome.

Hello! I have provided for the benefit of all a well-researched, super-accurate, possibly apocryphal family tree to explain psytrance:
-
I suppose that's true. I don't really download music ever, so I guess it never occurred to me.
-
Hows about both? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=10wgJwzx0KQ I'm not going to vote because I haven't really heard much MFG. I've got "Shape the Future" on Goa Vibes Vol. 2, which is decent, but other than that I've only heard a song here or there. And since the albums aren't available anymore, I haven't bothered to listen to lots of samples.

Sunstation - 13/13 posts promoting his labels' music. Not who I'd prefer running the place. I voted for Insejn because RTP said he might not have the time, but either or both sounds like a good plan to me!

These are the only ones I have: 1. Dimension 5 - Transdimensional 2. E-Mantra - Arcana 3. Various - Temple of Chaos 4. Merr0w - Born Underwater 5. RA - 9th 6. Various - Opus Iridium 7. Radical Distortion - Psychedelic Dreams 8. Filteria - Heliopolis But really it depends on my mood. If I want something harder, I'll go for Temple of Chaos, but if I want something softer I'll go for 9th. Sometimes I want strong melodies, so Arcana won't cut it, but other times that's exactly what I want.

I'm gonna throw in a comment here and hope I don't make a fool of myself remembering it incorrectly. Ouroboros, you've been a member longer than me so I'd assume you would remember the situation, but perhaps not. The way I remember it (and I didn't pay that much attention to all of it), it started with various inter-member drama and arguments involving at least some people who pretty much only posted in the OT forum. This led to moderation that was not seen favorably, which led to the attacks. Regardless, all this is beating a dead horse. Can we get back to finding a new Jedi Master of Psynews? Then that person can make a decision on the OT forum.

What is the key of psybient music?
Veracohr replied to Luminon's topic in Music Making and Production/Industry
Pop music tends to be in major keys, psytrance and psybient not so much. They often use "exotic", lesser known minor scales. Personally I don't bother to figure out what scale I'm using, or attempt to use a particular one. I just play. -
Oh man, where would I get my psy fix if this place went away? Psynews is responsible for my love of psy, and is the only place I hear about new releases. I certainly have the time, but unfortunately none of the other things needed to run a quality site. Is it pretty intensely technical to do?

Edit: I hereby retract my former post and replace it with this one. I know what you're hearing Step, but I believe both are minor circumstantial noises made by the original synths. Example 1, Time 7:01: http://www.veracohr.com/audio/Andromeda701.wav - I boosted a narrow frequency range centering around the 'offending' noise. You can hear a resonance, which tells me it's not a playback glitch, but something that happened at an earlier stage in the sound generation; like before a resonant filter, flanger, or something. The audio file is 3 beats long, and the sound occurs after the second beat. Example 2, Time 8:32: http://www.veracohr.com/audio/Andromeda832.wav - This one is more noticeable during play, but harder to prove without you being here watching what I'm doing. This one also is 3 beats long and the sound occurs after the second beat. It sounds like a stutter during play, but I found by alternating and sweeping low- and high-pass filters that the 'stutter' only happens in the high end. When low-passing the track, nothing sounds out of whack. Hey that rhymed. This tells me there was no playback glitch because if there was, I would have also heard something in the low end, which I did not. After listening to a short loop around this section playing over and over, I decided the sound might be some synth with a sequenced filter, so that the filter momentarily jumps up high and you hear the sound with extra high end. I could be wrong on the specifics, but I believe this sound also was generated by the synth. At the very worst, it could have been a glitch by the synth during recording, which DAT and Tim Schuldt would not have been able to fix or be responsible for.

best album so far, has anything come close to artha?
Veracohr replied to technosomy's topic in General Psytrance
Not that I have much that was released this year, but I've found myself going for the Goasia album most from the following I have: Goasia Artha Temple of Chaos Crossing Mind -
This movie is the winner of all movies ever. It will not dissapoint! Unless you have a problem with excessive violence and gratuitous nudity.

While they have nothing in common musically, I'd say the Red Sparowes took song-naming influence from Botch (but then got crazy with it). See the tracklist for "We Are the Romans": To Our Friends In The Great White North Mondrian Was A Liar Transitions From Persona To Object Swimming The Channel Vs. Driving The Chunnel C. Thomas Howell As The "Soul Man" Saint Matthew Returns To The Womb Frequency Ass Bandit I Wanna Be A Sex Symbol On My Own Terms Man The Ramparts For that matter, the name of the band "Red Sparowes" is obviously a play on "Black Crowes", and the Red Sparowes' music is obviously heavily influenced by Isis. All in all, they're not the most original band. I guess I like Chi A.D. - "The Ocean Also Dreams"
-
It's not done yet, but the director is making a follow-up called "Samsara". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samsara_%282011_film%29
-
It should depend on the mix. MP3 compression artifacts are first heard in the high frequencies, so I suppose something more busy and aggressive like psytrance might mask those artifacts more than ambient.
-
In case you were unaware, that voice sample in "People Can Fly" from your signature isn't by Astral Projection, it's from this movie: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0107302/

Let me preface this by saying that progressive psy doesn't do much for me. The production is really good. It's got a nice groove, but it doesn't seem to do anything interesting. But maybe that's just because progressive doesn't do much for me. There's good sounds in there from what I can tell. I'm listening on my laptop speakers so that may not mean much, but it seems to sound good.

No kidding, you're replying to invisible posts! Drunk poster strikes again! At least it wasn't me this time...
