Is it one of those really bad quality ones? That's kind of hard - I suggest trying to low-pass filter it to get some of the low bitrate crud out and try playing around with a peaking boost at different frequencies to see if you can make something jump out that helps the intelligibility after filtering out the high end. High-pass filter it too. There's probably nothing going on down there you need.

I'd suggest calling the hotel to get the name of the company that distributes that media. If it's really "personalized" for that particular hotel, that might be an easier path.

Weird? That's a weird comment. I disagree with you, but that's OK. I'd say that "polish", if anything, is just a professional mastering job, and Crossing Mind's lack of it.

Absynth is great and you can do all sorts of interesting things with it - but no software stops my workflow more that one. If I'm trying to figure out how to do something slightly out of the ordinary, it's nearly impossible to figure out. The manual is terrible, and half the time I swear things don't work the way the manual says they do.

Seriously? What are your criteria? I consider this on par with Chi-A.D., Pleiadians, Transwave.... If you think the arrangement is good what about it do you consider not good enough? Some of the songs are a bit more stark sounding, without as many extraneous sounds, but I appreciate that because it shows a focus on the most important part: the songwriting. And the songwriting is just as good.

Dude, I think more often than not these admittedly useless discussions (not including the insulting arguing parts) are the result of random musings that someone is bored enough to post. As Ormion said in the first post, it was just a dumb, fun poll. People who are passionate about the things they like enjoy talking about them.

What do you mean "headed back" to Portland? Is this a live show or something? I ask because I live in Portland.

I voted "goa mostly". I love the melodies and the feel, and most of what I listen to is pretty clearly on the "goa" side. I would get bored with the lack of variation in it if it were the only music I listened to, but since it's not I don't have a problem with that fact.

I'll assume you mean all softsynths, not just those in VST format. I use softsynths in Audio Units not VST. I haven't used a ton of different ones, but I'd have to say Native Instruments' Massive is my favorite.

Can't listen to the example right now, but voice synthesis requires a formant filter, which is basically multiple bandpass filters in parallel.
