ABL means this: http://www.audiorealism.se/abl/abl2_announcement.htm

I was at a party on Saturday, and we had a laptop hooked up to a TV to play videos online and whatnot. I was watching some Shpongle videos on YouTube, and since not many people were paying attention (no one there really liked electronic music much) I clicked on a link to something that mentioned goa trance. I don't know who the music was in the video, but the video itself was just some beach party scenes which I assume were at Goa. This girl commented on the pretty beaches and the large party, and I explained a little of the history of goa trance. She said, "Oh, I thought this was techno". Then of course I had to explain, and the people who were listening got that expression I always see when talking about electronic music to people who don't listen to it. And then there's me to uphold the stereotype.

how to make that sound? spade album
Veracohr replied to killik's topic in Music Making and Production/Industry
The one that's kind of buried and has some reverb on it? Sounds like a multi-oscillator saw wave ("supersaw") with some sort effect (perhaps a fast chorus or flanger?), and a simple pitch bend or glide (portamento) between two notes. And, of course, tons of reverb. And I can hear a low-pass filter changing the cutoff ever so slightly. -
What new gear [equipment] did you get today?

I was kinda drunk when I made my post, that's why it's so long. I got carried away.

I'm going to assume that by "deepest", you mean music that has the most emotional impact, and I will answer accordingly (in completely random order). With some songs, it's lyrics, with some it's just musical feeling, with some it's both: Led Zeppelin - "Achilles Last Stand" The Grateful Dead - "Uncle John's Band" The Grateful Dead - "Brokedown Palace" Led Zeppelin - "Kashmir" The Doors - "The End" The Doors - "Spanish Caravan" Nine Inch Nails - "Hurt" X-Dream - "Our Own Happiness" Astral Projection - "Mahadeva" Floater - "The Knowing Dirge" Floater - "Endless II" Tori Amos - "Me and a Gun" Universal Nation - "Push" Lamb of God - "11th Hour" Pink Floyd - Animals (the album as a whole) Nine Inch Nails - "Happiness in Slavery" Isis - "Divine Mother (The Tower Crumbles)" Hallucinogen - "Orphic Thrench" Paul Van Dyk - "Words" Energy 52 - -"Café Del Mar" VAST - "You" Shpongle - "Divine Moments of Truth" Fleetwood Mac - "Landslide" Pink Floyd - "Echoes" Enya - "Watermark" The Velvet Underground - "Heroin" The Velvet Underground - "Pale Blue Eyes" The Velvet Underground - "Rock and Roll" Enya - "Storms in Africa" Massive Attack - "A Prayer for England" Metallica - "Fade to Black" Metallica - "Dyer's Eve" L.S.G. - Into Deep (the album as a whole) Astral Projection - "Kabalah" Amon Amarth - "Versus the World" Slayer - "Raining Blood" Botch - "Man the Ramparts" Chi-A.D. - "Astral Warrior" Dimension 5 - "Flow" Floater - "God Gun" Portishead - "It's a Fire" Portishead - "Machine Gun" Pennywise - "Bro Hymn" Bob Marley and the Wailers - "Redemption Song" The Rolling Stones - "Paint it Black" Led Zeppelin - "Stairway to Heaven" For starters...

It depends on the workday and my mood. Sometimes I can listen to a lot of music at work, sometimes I have to interact with my co-workers a lot so I can't listen to as much. Sometimes I come home and listen to a lot of music, sometimes I just want to veg out and watch DVDs. So I voted 3-4.99, but it can be both more and less than that. And of course on weekends my music listening is probably at least twice as much as during the week.

Controller Softwares
Veracohr replied to Plasma Force's topic in Music Making and Production/Industry
I suggest using a serious sequencer for composition, then using the others just as virtual synths. Also, Audiorealism ABL2 sounds better than ReBirth at 303 sounds. -
You must not have noticed the "You must be insane to join Psynews" disclaimer upon registering. It's okay. Native Instruments' Absynth is good for making strange sounds. Also, if you want to make the investment, a modular system is king of strange sounds. Current modular manufacturers include MOTM, Doepfer, Blacet and Modcan. Or you can go with a software modular like Arturia's Moog Modular V or Software Technology's VAZ Modular. The other route is to delve into serious editing and use of effects on a sound. Try ring modulation, phase shifters, pattern gates...

Dark, but not "darkspy"

Heh. I just noticed my typo in the subject line: "darkspy" -
Dark, but not "darkspy"
Veracohr replied to Veracohr's topic in Music Making and Production/Industry
The bass was a Novation BassStation Rack. No preset, I enjoy creating my own sounds. By quick mix, I mean I mixed it in just a few hours. I've been writing the song off and on for some time. Glad you liked (some of) it. -
My intention with this song was to make a dark psytrance song that wasn't "darkpsy". It's kind of a quick mix (quick for me, anyway), and as usual my mastering sucks, but otherwise let me know what you think. Fall of Brona

Anyone else think it's too expensive considering it's not a physical CD? The FLAC albums work out to about $15 US; major label releases are that much on physical CD, and that price pays for the materials, insert printing, distribution costs, etc.
-
That's inevitable in any kind of music that survives past its infancy. When a style starts, of course everything is creative and unique, because it's a new genre! But once more people start making the music, it settles into a common situation where the bulk of the music made is either re-hashed or just crap, with a layer of good music on top. That's how it is in any established genre.

The "Not as much love for IFO as everyone else" thread
Veracohr replied to Veracohr's topic in General Psytrance
Not worried. It was just a random thought. Two of the things I think most about are music and patterns; thus, patterns in music opinion. And as I said a few pages ago, I was bored. So I posted my random thought. -

Holy crap, look what I started. -
And here's some sounds: http://www.veracohr.com/audio/303.mp3 That's Audiorealism, a software TB-303 emulator. I just scrolled through a bunch of the preset patterns and played with the cutoff & waveform.

Making Electronic Music
Veracohr replied to sammyhkhan's topic in Music Making and Production/Industry
Since it's music, I'd say "yes, of course". Why would it not? You're writing music. Actual producers (who just produce, not write) don't necessarily need to have musical skill, but even then it's quite helpful. However, everybody's musical background has to start somewhere. -

Veracohr replied to Veracohr's topic in General Psytrance
You're the only one that seemed to think it was negative. Everyone else took it the way I intended it, as a discussion of the variance of opinion. -
The "Not as much love for IFO as everyone else" thread
Veracohr replied to Veracohr's topic in General Psytrance
I didn't say it was bad, I don't have a negative opinion of it, and I don't want to change anyone's opinion (and if I did, I know this wouldn't be the way to do it). Isn't the point of this forum to talk about psy? I was bored and thinking about the album. -
What new gear [equipment] did you get today?
Veracohr replied to devious's topic in Music Making and Production/Industry
Paid for it today, but I should get it in a couple days. Native Instruments Komplete Synths bundle. Includes Absynth, FM8, Massive & Pro-53 Banjo Center had it for half the usual price. Can't pass that up! I've been wanting Absynth & FM8 for a long time. -
Videos Of Random Synth Stuff
Veracohr replied to Plasma Force's topic in Music Making and Production/Industry
I wouldn't say certain synths are necessarily best for an entire genre, like psy. It's all about the types of sounds you want to create. You can have psy with modern Nord/Access sounds, 70s Moog/ARP sounds, 80s Roland/Yamaha sounds, or whatever. Tell us what kind of sounds you want, like specific examples from specific songs, and maybe we can better suggest something. But I get the impression you want something all-encompassing that isn't too expensive. Why not look more into those Electribes you posted the video about? -

Quite possible. I had that experience with L.S.G.'s "Into Deep". -
