Looking through the "Top 10 albums" thread and what not, it reminded me of how often I see people putting Pleiadians' "IFO" at or near the top of various Best Of and Favorite lists. Somehow I don't get this. I only heard it first sometime earlier this year, but I think I have a good idea of the album now (it always takes me a few listens through an album to get the "feel" of the album, and know what it's about), and I find it sort of forgettable in a way. I don't think it's a bad album at all, I think it's good and I enjoy listening to it, but there's nothing about it that really stands out. I can listen to the whole album and feel like every song was more or less the same. In contrast, other artists have songs that really stand out to me. There's nothing by Pleiadians I've heard that I would remember a melody or anything from. For instance, every time I listen to it, I am more and more enthralled by Chi-A.D.'s "Virtual Spirit", and it is quickly shooting to the top of my "Favorite Albums of All Time of Any Genre" list. Astral Projection has many very recognizable and memorable melodies, as does Hallucinogen, Transwave, and others. I stick "IFO" on my iPod to listen to at work every now and then, but I never have that "I want to listen to this album specifically" feeling about it. It would be good party music, but there's nothing about it to make me sit up and take notice, or make me reach for it at home.

Videos Of Random Synth Stuff
Veracohr replied to Plasma Force's topic in Music Making and Production/Industry
The Little Phatty has a keybed that feels like crap. Sounds decent, but I'd never get one, because I would hate to play it. -
Moogerfoogers are cool, but kind of limited for the price. The first you posted is just a low-pass filter, which any synth has (to greater or lesser quality). The second has a single VCO. The Evolver is cool. I have the Poly Evolver Keyboard. There are a couple things I wish were different, especially involving the step sequencer (which I find useless for my purposes). But you can definitely do some interesting things with it. Some people who have had the Poly have sold it and gotten a Mono instead, but I'm all about polyphony.

Check This Video Out!
Veracohr replied to Plasma Force's topic in Music Making and Production/Industry
What is it you're trying to do? Same thing as in the video? Something different? What do you need to control live, and what can be playback? Determine the answers to these kinds of questions first, and seeking out the best gear is easier. -

Hardware's good for performance, but I think I wouldn't want to sequence on something like that. I would just use it as a module, and play it from a software sequencer. -
I would think that growing a huge belly over the course of nine months is a much more obvious indicator of having a child soon than "female intuition".

Are you asking what to use as a DJ, or what to put your own music on? Either way, it really depends on your opinion. CDs are more widespread, but a lot of DJs still use vinyl because they prefer it. If you don't care, I'd say go with CDs. I think you'll find more psytrance on CD than on vinyl.

drugs and music making
Veracohr replied to drekmajster's topic in Music Making and Production/Industry
Drugs & jamming = fun Drugs & writing or mixing = crap -
I don't know about the rest of my country, but in my part, they only "psytrance" around is full-on and darkpsy.

I'm not nearly so tidy as you guys. But then again, I also live on a friend's couch, so I make do with what I've got.

getting your ass in front of that keyboard

Indeed. -
I was just listening to this song of mine today, and thought I'd throw it up here. It's a weird little song not many have heard. Since I had nothing else to do tonight, I have graciously provided you with three ways of listening! The Ballad of Arthur Dent in 256kbps MP3 (8.4MB) The Ballad of Arthur Dent in OGG (8MB) The Ballad of Arthur Dent in FLAC (23.6MB)

I'm not sure, probably one one or two...

I got this record a few years ago, and I just discovered something interesting about it: it's not the artist I thought it was! Here's the deal: I thought it was Underworld. Why? Well, because it says "Underworld" right on the front! But I was listening to it today, and I looked closely at the label on the record itself, and I noticed it said "All tracks written and produced by Tony Thorpe". And I thought, "Hey, I thought Underworld was two guys..." So I looked up Underworld's discography on Discogs, and lo and behold, this record wasn't there! On the back of the record sleeve it says: "Voyager: Transmission". So I looked up Voyager, and found the record after the first couple "Voyager" artist names on Discogs. It's a completely different artist, named Voyager! I always figured it was some obscure early Underworld release, partly because it has two mixes of a song called "Underworld Theme". Plus, it kind of sounds like Underworld, especially the song called "In Unity". I guess I should have been more skeptical of Underworld writing an acid house song (Suck Acid), but as I said, I just figured it was some obscure early release. It's weird, because apparently the release is titled "Transmission", even though the cover of the album has "Underworld" as the only text. This was released in 1993, before Dubnobasswithmyheadman. My whole world had been turned upside down! Well, sort of anyway. http://www.discogs.com/release/340304

i've been officially converted
Veracohr replied to devious's topic in Music Making and Production/Industry
I've been tempted to give you a good talking to since I first saw this thread for relinquishing a P5, but I'll refrain. Not that the Nord isn't probably a good synth as well, but the P5 is a classic! Next time you want to unload a classic analog synth, talk to me first! :clapping: -
It is about sex, you have to download the ultra-secret Goa-to-Sex Translator browser plugin to read what's really going on. Here's your tip to find the plugin: The purple elephant is seen only in the halls of Taurus. Paul has the exhaust manifold.

I just went to a record store with a friend, and couldn't believe what I found in the used trance section (which is very small). There were other things I would have wanted, but as it is I spent a lot, even with the discount the dude gave me. Here's what I got: Someone must have unloaded a bunch of goa at once, because I can't believe that many people in my town would own goa vinyl. http://www.discogs.com/release/11706 http://www.discogs.com/release/139487 http://www.discogs.com/release/106790 http://www.discogs.com/release/73819 http://www.discogs.com/release/93247 http://www.discogs.com/release/139364 http://www.discogs.com/release/146718

Ghost Sound at start of mix down
Veracohr replied to frosty's topic in Music Making and Production/Industry
That's a reverb tail. Check how your mix-down is set up, and make sure there's no tracks that could be included in the mix that aren't heard when you play it. Do you do a "bounce to disk" kind of thing? There might be something there that is included in the mix that you don't notice. If you're instead routing all your audio tracks to a new stereo track to record, and you hear that noise when you play back the mix but not when you're recording the mix, consult your local exorcist. -
Since it's destined for either CD or MP3, 44.1k. If I'm mastering myself, convert to 16 bit then. If not, leave it at 24 bit for the ME.

Let's inject some music in this forum!
Veracohr replied to Veracohr's topic in Music Making and Production/Industry
I regret that I didn't have much time to work on this. I think I only worked on it three different times. I had planned to develop it more, but as it is it's kind of boring. http://www.veracohr.com/audio/Sines.mp3 -

Well sure. It's a challenge, you know? See how good a piece you can come up with given a certain set of restrictions. Whatever. I'm sticking to a month. -

It's great that such good music can be so simple made with just a drum machine and a single 303!
