One absolute psy/goa chef-d'oeuvre [1997]...
Blair Thaumic replied to Krystall Mystik's topic in Lost Tracks
Great track. Yay! Thanks for reminding me about this one. -
Syb Unity Nettwerk have a similar energy in some of their tracks. I always thought Tromesa's first two albums sounded like a cross between Transwave and Pleiadians. Check out Tromesa - Pasma Czasu and Tromesa - Gdyby.

Psy-Harmonics Vol. 2: Dancing To The Sound Of The Sun Ree.K - Yammataikoku Xplore Sybernetic Concept - Finger's Memories I've been on a Psy-Harmonics kick lately. Bought Third Eye - Ancient Future, Third Eye - Dance Of Creation, Shaolin Wooden Men - The Hungry Forest, and Masaray - Cosmic Trancer. I really want Dancing... to round out my collection but it's crazy expensive and I won't spend $100+ on a less than mint copy. Yammataikoku is a steal at $275. I'm guessing that the memories of fingering album will be rereleased since a lot of Kylven material is coming out... we'll see.

Ozrics sort of creep up on the border of prog, but were never really a prog band. I can describe them as (deep breath) space rock/ambient with some influence from dub reggae, acid house/trance, drum and bass, and various kinds of Eastern music, along with a bit of guitar shredding and some folksy bits. They don't really use vocals at all. There's a few verses of singing on Iscence, and some spoken word on Dissolution, but all the rest of their music is instrumental. You probably know that Eat Static was the dance offshoot of Ozrics, and there are definite similarities in their sound... if you like one, you'll probably like the other.

Only 50 seconds? Damn, I want to hear more -
Looking for 90s Hardtrance/Psychedelic hybrid?
Blair Thaumic replied to Ize's topic in General Psytrance
The two tracks you mentioned are two of my favorites as well. They're full of drama and dynamics, even more so than a lot of oldschool goa. You'd probably like Chi-A.D. and Dimension 5. Chi-A.D. especially has a lot of hard and uplifting trance in their sound, while remaining psychedelic enough to be considered goa trance. -
Learned something new today! Though according to the wiki page it's still misspelled...

How about official misspellings? Total Eclipse - Delta Aquarids (Aquarius) Asia 2001 - Buddha Compation (Compassion)

Well the last set would have to be morning music, so anything that fit that description... oldschool goa, maybe some of the less aggressive newschool, and/or some melodic prog. No I wasn't -- if only I could afford it! I'll make it up to Boulder someday. I'm in west Los Angeles and actually, May's a good time for at least a house party. Will your travels take you to L.A.?

Do you do drugs while listening to psytrance?
Blair Thaumic replied to FatKidWitAJetPak's topic in General Psytrance
A few times. Psytrance gave me some nice closed-eye visuals on mushies, but the mood was too nerve wracking to really enjoy; I don't think I'd play any uptempo music in that context again. OTOH I had a really comfy and nice experience while listening to this album: http://www.discogs.com/Art-Of-Noise-In-Visible-Silence/master/2600 -
Just a thought I've been entertaining lately. What about a goa party with only the darker & weirder sounds during the nighttime, and saving the melodious stuff until the very end? I think it'd have a good effect. I've been to a few (very good) outdoor parties circa 1999-2000 that had a progression like this, and I've come to think of it as the original Goa vibe. In a good studio space it could even work indoors, although there has to be a conscious effort to build a party like this, as well as a crowd that will appreciate it. When I threw a party back in 2012, the music progression didn't quite work: the last track of the night was some hard banging midnight shit, instead of Virtuart or something. Everyone put in their best effort, but some better communication between organizer, DJ, and audience could have made the party a lot smoother. But if the party has a spooky theme, people expect dark music, and there's a clearly billed and planned for sunrise set (to balance out all the darkness), I think it could be something amazing. And recording everything for the people who can't be there physically, of course. I don't know if any Southern Californians frequent these boards, but maybe later in the year something could go down. Anyone want to give it a try?

How would you rate the last 10 years of Goa Trance music
Blair Thaumic replied to Richpa's topic in General Psytrance
Pretty much this. There are artists making a darker kind of goa, I could mention a couple of names on this forum. But they're still developing their sound and it's too soon to say what it might turn into. I want something like this from newschool: http://www.discogs.com/Various-Air-Born/release/3720 Not a copy, but something with a similar sense of a dark journey into the unknown. -

How the mighty have fallen. Pick the worst fall.
Blair Thaumic replied to Ormion's topic in General Psytrance
That seems to be the consensus. Personally, I thought that Golden Sun was the least trancy sounding Juno album. Shango had Nitrogen, Labyrinth had Conquistador and Mutant Message, even Gods and Monsters had some trancy moments. Golden Sun sounded like pure synth pop without any trance. -

Ozric Tentacles. 30 years and still as amazing as ever. never a bad album or even a single bad track (arguably). Portion Control. Started in 1980, one of the top industrial acts both then and now. Ubar Tmar. Psy maestro. I don't like all his music but it can't be denied that he goes his own way. Kuro. Made some great goa trance in the nineties and still does.

Not 'crappy' by any means, but the group that moved the furthest away from my taste: Juno Reactor, post Mike/Jens/Paul/Johann/Stef. -
Because we all love it when a track gets really crazy. I want tracks that have some kind of insanely fast, hyper-fluid melodic run in their arrangement, aka 'shredding'. Give me your best Steve Vai impression

It's working so far... went to sleep at 5AM last night, woke up to my alarm at 9. If I tuck in early tonight my clock should be reset. In the meantime, I'm a lightweight when it comes to sleep deprivation, so I may be even more strange than normal.

Has anyone ever dreamt of a psy album/track, and been disappointed upon waking up to find it doesn't really exist? I've had it happen to me a few times. This morning, I had a dream that I was in my old comic book store, the one that shut down fifteen years ago. There was a wall of second hand CDs behind the cash register, with about five or six long, wood paneled shelves full of music. I asked the guy at the counter if I could check them out, and he said ok and handed me a step ladder so I could reach the higher shelves. All the CDs were electronic music... I found some things that were familiar (three copies of 'Made On Earth'), and some that weren't (an ambient trance compilation called 'Techno Taoism'). Then I found something that amazed me. Space Tribe - The Third Oscillation. Apparently Olli had written an album in 1998 between The Ultraviolet Catastrophe and The Future's Right Now, and it was all ready to go when Spirit Zone decided not to release it, so only a few copies had been made. The never-officially-released promo I was holding came in a nice looking digipack, with artwork of a UFO landing on a grass covered hill at night; the picture was curved, like it had been shot through a fish eye lens, and the title was curved as well. Looking at the back (where the track titles and BPM had been written, in typical Spirit Zone style), the whole album seemed to be influenced by Celtic Paganism, and had a more 'earthy' and 'organic' theme that I expected would carry into the music. Something like Space Tribe's tweakiness mixed with the Megadog sound. Of course I woke up before I could take it home and hear it Isn't that always the case...

For the past few months, I've been living a nocturnal lifestyle. Today I went to sleep at 7AM and didn't get up until 4PM. That's going to change soon... next month, I have a class that requires that I wake up at 6 in the morning. I'm also going back to uni later in the year. Therefore, I'm going to try moving to a diurnal schedule. Any advice? Can I do it all at once, or should I do it in steps: going to bed at 3:00 one night, 2:00 the next, and so on, until I have a normal sleep cycle?
