  1. Don't judge an album by its cover, eh? Ugh, that artwork....
  2. The Ufomatka track is gold!!! Edit: Perfect Rainbow and Total Eclipse tracks are winners. Both are really, really solid tracks.
  3. As far as full-on goes you cannot go wrong with Psilocybian. I wouldn't put him up with Braincell, for instance, as the best out there, but he is never disappointing, always quite good. I'll check out Tron and Master Blasters, neither is in my collection. Thanks for the recommend!
  4. I can only hear so much about how great an album is before I cave in and check it out. The resistance to listening to this compilation comes from my lack of enjoyment with most tracks by Pleiadians and with three unreleased tracks on this one that seems to be what most folk focus on. As it turns out, some of my trepidation was justified as I only appreciate one of the three Pleiadians offerings. I'm not a big fan of wild and hyper Goa, it lacks structure and focus as far as I'm concerned. As such, "Ciberland" is a masterpiece to these ears because it is so non-Pleiadians in structure and focus. It's warm, inviting, absolutely brilliant! In regard to the other classic from this compilation, Hiscore Xor's "True Freedom" has next to no appeal for me. The chirping effects are annoying and most of the synth lines are too wild, too piercing, there's little available for an enjoyable listen. Breach of Space's "Two Mad Men" is a lot of fun despite almost overusing the samples. The highlights, without question, would be the two Transwave tracks. Warm, focused, transporting, vintage Goa. If you are a Transwave fan you cannot miss with either of these offerings. In conclusion, a very, very solid compilation and definitely worthy of its reputation. Even if the crazy and reckless Pleiadians and Hiscore Xor tracks are not your usual brand (admittedly, I'm talking to the minority here) there is plenty of quality to be found elsewhere.
  5. "Crystal" is a fantastic track. If one can put aside the dated recording sounds then they are in for one helluva trip. Pixma is dead-on when they stated "The main melody kicks in, but initially it sounds like it has had all its air punched out. Quickly the melody is twisted into something really wicked, and the track is in full motion." This is a great one, truly timeless and even more special because it's from the beginnings of the Goa sound. "Orientalic" is not very impressive, though. This is a track that definitely shows its age, layered with annoying video game effects, it's a tough one to take serious. Unfortunately, I have not heard "World Of Illusions" yet but if it is "some twisted Danish techno" then I'm excited about the possibilities.
  6. Hahaha nice one, same here, just kind of assumed anyone looking at this thread would be familiar with Shpongle. Nice suggestions and write-ups, I don't have either track in my collection, definitely interested in them.
  7. Definitely not E-Mantra's best down tempo work, it's a lot happier and sunnier than his past works. For instance, "Hermit's Sanctuary" worked so well because it was dark and moody, but here "Snow Began To Fall" is the only great track. I'm not a fan of the progressive tracks at the end, either.
  8. ^^^ Not completely! Disc Two has some lousy tunes (but that's expected considering the quality of full-on E.U. has released), but "Electronic Pulsation," for example, is fan-f'n-tastic, exactly what you should expect of great, remastered old-school goa. There are some gems in this one.
  9. Point. Is. Excellent! Beside Deto & Gleam, this is the best producer on D.D.
  10. Definitely one of the better live albums out there. Nothing against the Ott recorded album (it is brilliant!) but the live band on "In Dub Live" is perfect, the crowd noise gives it all a little more oomph, because of that it has more great elements, more great dimensions to it. Still, this one puts a smile on my face whenever I hear it, especially, of course, "LSD," there is just no better remix anywhere out there. This is an album that takes me to a better plane each and every time.
  11. Very interested in hearing some of the older remastered material. "The Prayer" is a great track, it just has not aged well, it deserves a loving update.
  12. Not enough great things can be said about Soulacybin. Two outstanding albums so far, both groovy, relaxing and atmospheric.
  13. Thanks mate! Solid review about Ascent previously and really digging that album because of your recommend. I'm expecting pure quality from this one.
  14. It is a matter of taste and we can agree to respectfully disagree. Generic, by-the-numbers full-on would be the Killerwatts album. Unfortunately, that does include Avalon. The best psy to me is the psy that would make me lose track of time and space while on the dancefloor and some of the best moments of "Distant Futures" (especially "Another Planet") get to those levels.
  15. I would agree with most of this except to say Avalon's "Distant Futures", from 2010, is a masterpiece. Just saying.... I saw Laughing Buddha last NYE in Montreal and it was terrible, very homogeneous and very Nano. The label has taken a weird turn these last few years and have gone very club sounding. Not a fan of that vibe at all. That said, Laughing Buddha's "Sacred Technology", also post-2009 on Nano, is another great release so we know he's capable of great work. For some reason, though, these Nano guys are releasing shit these days. I also saw Tristan at Boom 2010 and, again, very homogenous and clubby, it leaves me with very low expectations for any future releases by Nano.
  16. I have not listened to this one so I cannot vouch for it. Since we're on this topic this is a full-length album from Ascent & Argus: http://www.discogs.com/Ascent-And-Argus-Beyond-Sight/master/598866 Could not agree more regarding Ovnimoon Records - VA - Mysteries of Psytrance Volumes 1-3, Psilocybian "Wry Figments", Via Axis "Expressions of One", Ovnimoon "Magnetic Portal" and VA - "Colors of Goa" are my favorites. Even when a release misses you can tell they were at least trying for something special, no color-by-numbers from this label. And, even more impressive I feel, their best releases are not just one style of psy, they've released and compiled great releases in progressive, full-on, goa and down tempo. Hector Ovnimoon obviously loves what he does and he's damn good at finding equally great artists.
  17. Looking forward to listening to this, love the Ovnimoon/Elegy/E-Clip progressive that, as you said, "straddles the line between progressive and psy".
  18. After listening to this a couple of times now I understand why Xander pinned this to the main page of Ektoplazm - it is a very special trip, truly remarkable work. On the Ektoplazm Facebook page Xander drew comparisons to Blue Planet Corporation, I would draw the comparison to E-Mantra's "Nemesis". http://www.ektoplazm.com/free-music/faxi-nadu-the-dangling-thread

    E-Mantra - Nemesis

This album just gets better and better and better. Sad to hear about your choice for Goa but very happy to hear your chill side will be alive still. Really looking forward to the new album, if it's anything like "The Hermit's Sanctuary" we are in for a treat. Great job, also, with the "Floating Spirals" compilations, I hope you find time to get together more collections like those.
  20. "Dancing With The Blue Spirit" had magic and imagination and deserves many repeat listens. "Dancing With The Blue Spirit" offers up something new to me each time I listen, wonderful and complex melodies, a true journey and adventure, an album I hold in high regard alongside E-Mantra's "Nemesis" and Faxi Nadu's "The Dangling Thread". "Amphibians On Spacedock" just does not enthrall me at all. It sounds glossy and superficial, it does not have the same depth as his previous release. Maybe a second listen will unlock some magic but I doubt it. I did not listen to any of these tracks all the way through and that in itself speaks volumes to me about the quality of this release. I approach an artists work with respect and attention and if I do not make it through any of those tracks through to the very end, well, in my opinion, it just isn't very good listening.
  21. You can't miss with Opsy "New Kind Of Radiation" - very much the same style. Opsy co-produces a track on the "Forget Your Past" album (the Cybered album @ Ektoplazm) and they have remixed each other's tracks a few times. This would have to be one of my favorite Opsy tracks, off one of his early EPs. The sample in the middle is just awesome:
