  1. I took a listen at YT cause I ignored it more or less so far, being no big fan of remixes generally. Manuser and Padmapani said already what I gathered at a quick listen through. I do not know what the purpose of this release was, when it does add almost no value to the original works? Is not Midimiliz one of the X-D guys? If that is the direction X-Dream would go if they release something new, I guess it would be a bad surprise. OTH, some of the big names deliver some good but not remarkable work, Atmos, AP, MWN..others get boring after 2 minutes like loud, sphongle. Perhaps when I listen again I will discover more ? X-D "Irritant" I also listened again.. after it seemed not so good before.. but the 2nd listen did not add much positive to my first impression, guess it is too minimal, technoid and some tracks too long for what is going on. "We Interface" corrected some of this and is better also the female vocoder voice I like (which some might hate tho) LOL Here loud, I wonder why people like this one so much, see the thumbs up ratio It is boring and 1 of the sounds is irritating:
  2. Yes I have read that too with "stacking" 2-3 compressors or limiters. They maintain this reason afaik; each one adds some certain tone and has only light compression. This should be better than using one limiter with harder setting. Ie. better 3 different limiters with "soft" settings than 1 single with "hard" settings. No idea about that I do not use this method, I would put a limiter only on a single track when there is some element(s) with a too wide volume difference, the limiter will "contain" the spikes in the audio a bit. I learned such small thing over a long time, with less experience one would just pull the fader down, but then you also pull down what is wanted in the sound and not only the "harsh volume spikes" I do not use the lufs measure to new for me, but I would aim for a "club" track and for online (they will pull the volume down anyway) at 6-7 DR and -5 to -6 rms. For a ballad, chill out, classical etc. much lesser. Here interesting thread: "YT loudness wars": https://recording.de/threads/youtube-loudnesswar.232944/
  3. Watch the video above, I saw a Nord (1 or 2?), 2 x something from Walddorf (1x Microwave), a 303, some "rompler" it looks like from Roland (JD/JV something?) and an EMU Morpheus ah and 2 x Oberheim something. Guess you guys can identify more... The JD800 was very good especially for pads iirc. I believe there is a rack version (990). In theory one needs only 2 good samplers.. like F242 they had the Emulators mostly. And Depeche also...they were used a lot in their tracks, more samplers than synths. Well for more moving sound like Goa, of course a real synth with many knobs is desired.
  4. Are you still in the mastering stuff, I have made a kind of melodic trance song (needs some tweaks still), which I would try with your mastering if still available? If you are not against a more "commercial" song LOL
  5. For video game sounds, funny that you say this, cause last week I got a neat little free plug in named "invader". And yes, this connects to "Space Invader" (an old video game). There are more than enough older plug ins one can get - and using old stuff and not looking much at all what is out there new gear, new vst´s etc. also helps not get lost in all the new options (and get lost of rare money) one now has.
  6. I "started" on Magix Musicmaker and a friend was making "blackmetal" with a playstation composer Then Logic 3.6 or so the first I tried with real musicmaking, there was no vst with this. Now the last Win version = 5.51. Tried back in the days, Fruity and Cubase, but straight back to Logic. Then was not making any music for ca. 6/7 years but kept all the music stuff incl. my Logic...Downloaded a week ago Reaper, which can be and tried out for free for a while, and was so confused even looking at it that I de-installed it after 30mins trying to get something with it haha.... did not want to really use it anyway but was curious how it looks/feels.
  7. Well it is not my style too, but it would be fun to prove we can do it (read my idea above) I totally are with you that one wants to use the limited time for his own vision of sound... but maybe we can scrape up some of it. My "style" is usually darker with industrial/darkambient tones I would say. Started some kind of "doom-industrial" track even with a guitar (oops yes I do not like guitar in psy but dig it, in other metal gothrock punk styles).. listen tomorrow your other piece, good evening gents. Superwave P8 is ok for free I think not near the real thing just like synth1..
  8. I actually USE XP (only for music of course) my old Logic (Emagic not Apple!) does not run on newer OS..I have some old Logic projects and these will not translate to newer Windows cause the format is different and some VSTs do not run on newer OS!
  9. Ok I searched a bit, here a thread Astral gear: http://forum.vintagesynth.com/viewtopic.php?t=58134 And here a video in studio: some stuff can be seen
  10. @recursion loop Sounds like you are pretty close to the Astral Projection feel with your example, thumbs up. Dont you have the project anymore so can make a song from the sketch? At topic: A friend many years ago had a JP8080 this was really a fat one, so I am curious to hear what you guys can reproduce, I also think it is not so easy as Mr. Imba says. But he can prove it. I have a VST (free) named Superwave which is said to be some Roland emulation but I forgot which one LOL I have a Nordrack2 safely stored away, but no good mixing desk anymore and only 1 old SE50 Effect unit. When my current tracks are hopefully finished only used software, I will setup my 2 HW synths again I guess, it is just more fun with them... and Nord has some unique sounds. Well I could also accept the challenge with the limited means (and time) I have, it would be not lost one can use it in a track.
  11. Folks I do not know why my above Songs were not "embedded" in the post. Some confusion might happen if one searches for me! In 2018 another AQ appeared (from the US) - they make I would say synthpop/wave and I really like some of theirs... I have this name however since 2004 already LOL Proven by YT uploads and Discogs entries. Here an interview and pics with the other Alpha Quadrant, tbh. they seem nice but I do not like their latex and boots they wear http://voyagemia.com/interview/art-life-alpha-quadrant/ I have this 4th and last cover version not uploaded anywhere yet, need to find some more listeners I guess before and use it as a "free promo" song for my EP or even album in late summer / early fall (autumn). I do not make any single penny from these covers - my YT etc. nothing is monetized. I agree when people say most covers are not as good as the original but my own ones at least change the style and add something new. But my other stuff will all be OWN material. I just discovered that one of my songs at "soundclick" (which I used many years ago) reached the No. 7 in the genre charts and another one No.13...someone at Youtube liked my stuff saying it is "weird dark electronic music". I agree with this. Cheers for now.
  12. @astralprojection Thank you very much Herr Astral from Sweden I agree with you people, that Phosycon sounds better, but I have this ABL2 in working condition on my old setup, so will go with it. It does not really sound great yes.. the delay yup I realize that. I had Rebirth 11-12 years or so ago and made some stuff with it saved as wave and imported to Logic. But the 2-3 "acid" songs gone missing. I discovered there is a download for Rebirth nowadays - it is now public domain, tried it and it works (stand alone, no VST)- Also yes a bit thin and outdated these days.
  13. Your thoughts on his opinion:? Edit, this guy has quite an audience, so it maybe worthwhile for you to read the comments and/or check some of his other videos: He has kind of a promo company as I understand it ...
  14. Ooops has the Immortal pic scared the posters or was I too much "rumbling" LOL Well someone said he misses "Raw experimental sounds. " ..here is such a piece (not good mixed or really mastered, means "raw") I found this site "bandlab" which is to bring musicians together so they can work/remix tracks each other but I use it for now to store some older and "unreleased" stuff. https://www.bandlab.com/band/band7263596317214513/shades-64820bff-811e135f And here a minute snippet from one of the tracks I am working on... this went to a quite interesting sound I think, but I do not really know in what genre it would be or compare to which known band(s). Perhaps someone can help (you can also send me a pm) ? Thank you! (guess that is the problem with "own" style) https://www.bandlab.com/band/band7263596317214513/not-yet-named-7f8bacc0-6c046be5
  15. I HAVE ABL2... plus "Rebirth" but I am really not into programming these things (step sequencer)... is there an easy tutorial for such sequencing ? If possible in German. I think ABL2 can sound good, just put external effects on it ...but I cannot get cool sequences out of it Want to try some ACID sounds even if only for 1 track. A shame that this section here in the forum seems quite quiet except the promo posters.
  16. Whow, now this sounds interesting TERROR VOCALS! Hope I can hear examples of this in your preview... ok I thought we get something like Hocico or Suicide Commando. But these are mostly speech samples, thanks for the effort anyway
  17. Just found, this is one guy from Hocico (Mexico) an example that old (1994) = often sounding better, the song is a bit monotone tho
  18. Forgotten darkebm from Argentinia, it is quite simple but has a feeling:
  19. Are you originally from Russia ? As I said if the day has 48 hours I can listen to all your uploads. And btw. only Immortal is Immortal: Just now, someone on YT who made a comment of "weird dark electronic music" liked my uploads, guess a good description.,..
  20. Pretty sure many here are talented... But guess most make music firstly for themselves... in my case anyways, I do not like much newer "darkpsy" and also got bored of oldschool true goa (please do not hate on me for this), for some reason "progressive" stuff aged better for me (eg. Vibrasphere, Atmos etc.) probably because I did not like it first and listened more only later when it grew on me. I listened oldschool goa too much it seems (similar to certain metal classix, like Master Of Puppets or even , gosh, Reign In Blood). I do not mean eg. X-Dream, Hallucinogen, some MFG, Dark Soho or Blue Planet - this I still like very much for example - it "aged" better for some reason. Coming back to Goa in 2-3 months and see if it grows on me again... I try to make music in a cosmos "from (oldschool)Techno, (Psy)trance, Darkelectro, Industrial to Ambient.." Well not so much Ambient anymore, I have relentless "beats" now mostly, just cause I am also bored of pure Ambient stuff. For listening in the background to relax yeahh ok. Btw. if you can make the day 48 hours it would help for sure I like that you want to buy and support good music. Edit, a track I do not get tired of is for example Mahadeva (remember first listen and when the bassline kicks in, so cool)
  21. @recursion loop Sure it moved a LOT since 2006 and I also listened to many YT vids or demos from newer software incl. the U-he etc stuff - heard not much that I REALLY would need or pay much for it (also it would not run on my old music pc anyway lol and I have now sadly lower income). A bit OT: I am in a "recording" forum also - and members would post their tracks and I understand most of them have many of these new tools/synths etc. The electronic stuff over there that many post sounds kind of "meh" to me. For what do they have all this stuff when it more often than not translates to cool tracks. Ok, my 2-3 main electronic genres are not en vogue there anyway. I heard perhaps 1 - 2 tracks in the psy direction there, and not a single(true) EBM/Indus one. This may be the reason I judge the tracks "low" because I have no connection to the genre (?). But honestly why can they not build better and huge sounds with these newer synths etc. Same for much new psytrance.. guess I could do simmilar stuff with my 2000-2005ish cheaper and old gear - now talking about sounddesign more than mixing at which these guys are better... I could do more with the CS2x I believe alone, but I have no time/patience at the moment to set up my 2 HW synths and the old mixer. I found one forum member who makes kind of dark techno, from which I liked a few tracks. He also has already 3 albums or so and is on a big Spotify playlist. He has a PHAT Virus "TI" (?) - however his leads go on my nerves a bit, they are overly distored and sound a bit "clipped" why "destroy" the Virus sound, probably in darktechno it must be so LOL. However there are 2-3 tracks over there in the hiphop and "early rap" category which sound better to me than the "hiphop" which is huge on YT or the German charts (rubbish). Also the metal guys there have some cool stuff. OT off Found some old recordings (single tracks from songs I started but never ended) which are named with CS2x and Reaktor (I had some kind of free Reaktor version) and this sounds quite good really...will try to re-use these or complete the songs and post them also here in the promo forum - when I got the time and learned better mixing etc.
  22. Well it is a difference if we talk about recording gear or instruments ? Remember almost ALL vst synths are just analogue or DX7/FM etc. replicated. Possibly there are some out there which do this quite good. It is more a feeling, mood and user interface thing that hardware synths still do better than VSTs. Playing real keys and twisting real knobs has more "feeling" to it, especially if we talk about synths with MANY knobs like JP,Nord,Virus. I don´t know newer instruments at all, my "newest one" must be from 2005/06 (both for software and hardware). And btw. the Synth1 freeware vst was said to be a good "copy" of the Nord - I could compare and do think for "free" it is good, but never reaches a real Nordlead (2 in my case). Question is does the average listener care, I mean not experts like in this thread or those that make music themselves who might pick up the differences. Sorry for the long texts LOL Edit, Example: When I re-started and re-learn to make music 3 months ago I basically have only the old stuff and use only software for now. Eg. I have the Albino2 and this one has MANY presets many knobs and options etc. and I guess I found it quite good - however now I realize, it is often quite "thin" and the filters are not really that good. For basses however eg. the ES2 from Logic is more than good enough imo (when one learns how to eq/mix the bass which is more important). Here a link to Albino2 (German): https://www.amazona.de/test-linplug-albino-2/
