  1. Weather talk? Now the topic is REALLY boring For the record, I have some crap dripping from the sky right now, which is pretty usual for my city at any season.
  2. I talked to some people who have much better knowledge of MIDI protocol than me. It seems that I've posted a significant amount of bullshit here (which I just deleted in order not to spread misinformation) sorry From what I've understood, you don't need Automap to do what you want, but depending on the DAW and synths/plugins you are using controller which allows to manually assign MIDI CC to the encoders may be preferable. Code 25 does that
  3. BS deleted I remember I was messing about with a thingie called Fasttracker over a decade ago, but I prefer "conventional" DAWs now.
  4. Holy cow, I've got REALLY bad memory for names. Thanks, I knew what is kantele (iirc, from this song) but didn't relate this word to Kanneljarvi. In Russian this place is called Semiozerje (7 lakes) so I thought that the Finnish word means the same.
  5. When I become an infirm old fart I hope he will be bringing mushrooms right to my bed.
  6. Really hard to explain. I deeply love some psytrance acts but when I'm asking for something in similar vein people often recommend me music which contains many similar elements but doesn't float my boat at all. Basically, when it comes to psy/goa, I'm looking for trancyness, otherworldy, sci-fi or futuristic aesthetics and emotional, sad or euphoric melodies. Don't like anything sounding too harsh, too evil or too dark. Finding psy with right melodies is the most tricky part, I don't like the chaotic melodies which are abundant in newschool goa, but on the other hand I can accept and even love some of the downright cheesy stuff, like Astrix or Ananda Shake but hate when it becomes full-on clubby, like Sesto Sento or Intersys, and I also can enjoy music mith very minimal melodies (many progressive acts, like e.g., Sideform, E-Clip or Egorhytmia). But If you ask me why I love Sideform and Ticon and can't stand Vini Vici or Liquid Soul I've got no answer, basically there are all the same elements but somehow they create completely different feel. I don't care how innovative the music is, like the last Ticon album which carefully follows all the prog standards but I'm really enjoying it, while Nervasystem's Brainradio does nothing for me despite I agree that it is very innovative and technically immaculate. So, well, many words but no definitive answer
  7. You bet! Yes, it's a bit tough now but I was prepared for it. Thus guy also gave us some troubles five years ago but now he helps us to deal with his little sister Fuck, now this thread has inadmissible level of cuteness, please someone post smth dirty right now!
  8. I also can show off the same thing And some living room on the background (not much of it is seen, but that's a good thing cause the rest of the room is a total hurra's nest )
  9. I'm glad to see you back into music production, I remember some of the tracker stuff you posted here which was really good. I'm also planning to buy a new keyboard and I'm leaning towards M-Audio Code 61. For what I know, these Code series have decent velocity and pressure sensitive keys and are easily configured for most major DAWs. They also come with free licenses for two synth plugins, Air Loom and Air Hybrid. These synths are not the best on the market but good enough to get you started (one is for basic substractive sounds with warm analoguish character and another one is additive, it sounds strange and digital).
  10. What about some Finland landscapes, Anu? I think your country is really beautiful, with all these lakes and forests and your gentle and tasteful architecture which fits the nature so well. I really love Finnish architecture, Ingvar Aalto was a genius. I first visited Finland in 2014 but I always had some attraction to this country, we have many places with Finnish names here in Pietari and around it. My family has a dacha in Kanneljarvi ("7 lakes", right?) and there is a place called "Kuolemajarvi" not so far away from it (Death lake? sounds scary). @604, mate it seems that your superhuman abilities to kick the shit out of anyone have somehow impaired you judgement in other areas.
  11. Listened to that Vagabond after this you post but wasn't to excited about it. To me it sounds pretty similar to an average "Ibiza trance", some nice pads, effects and melodies here and there but nothing especally interesting. And I couldn't disagree more when you call Ticon empty and calculated. Maybe they don't break away from typical proggy synth lines and grooves but within these borders they manage to create deep and captivating atmosphere. The album which pretty much feets yours the other is AV's Paradise Engineering imo.
  12. What a song! And what a country. I hope I'll have a chance to spend a week or two in Croatia. I've been to Montenegro in 2014 and it was the best vacation in my life, these is some real charm in these South Slavic countries.
  13. They surely are digital. Virus TI is a softsynth in a box, but it was coded by a team of audio engineering and sound-design experts, while most softsynths are made by one or two coding enthusiats. I think Virus sounds better than an average softsynth and has wider range of sweet spots. It is close to Diva in tems of overall sonic warmth and presence but has much more options for shaping the sound. I never owned a Nord, but people say that DACs are important part of its sound. NL4 has better (cleaner) DACs and I've read more than once that because of this it doesn't sound as great as NL2 or 3.
  14. You should write the track names in different colours and fonts cause there is no other way to distinguish them, they all sound the same.
  15. Yeah, no surprises here, probably it was all done before, but almost never with such a great attention both to tiny details and to the overall vibe. Somehow the elements which could seem generic or cheesy in someone else's music sound here just right. If Psynews is going to have a "best of 2016" poll, this album will surely be among top positions in my list. Btw., I'm also not a big fan of earlier Ticon stuff with few exceptions.
  16. The tracks sound a but chaotic and disorganised imo but there are some really great sounds and melodies here. Do a bit more work on the track structure and you'll have killer tracks!
  17. Thanks everyone, I'm very happy to see that kind of discussion actually! Yeah, making a "generic goa" was a part of the task I've set to myself, I'm a (semi)amateur full-on producer, but I was somehow drawn into goa (thanks psynews) and decided to try if I can make smth in that vein myself. So, if people perceive this as goa and even like the melodies, it wasn't a completely useless try If/when I'll be making a full track of it, I'll surely try to give it my own twists. Meanwhile, I want to ask for some listening suggestions. I don't like the kind of goa with chaotic melodies, overly agressive acid lines and ultraloud kicks which seems to be popular now, but i like Mindsphere - Presence, latest Ra (wasn't exactly mad about it at first but it really grew on me), everything by Khetzal and Skarma I've heard, J.I.S. and truly and deeply love most tracks made by AP. So pelase more music of this kind ( I guess I should look for 90's goa rather than newschool?)
  18. Yeah, for someone who started making music with computer the things like total recall, unlimitied instances, no cables is super important. Interesting, for the people who started with hardware years back it's the other way round, they often say that the sound is good but they can't get past the software workflow. Diva is great, I don't really feel the need to get anything analogue as I have it. There were more accurate analogue emulations released after it, like the new Synapse Audio Minimoog clone, but I don't even care - Diva is good enough. But there are still no convining emulations of Virus or Waldorf synths (there is Largo but people often say that even Blofeld sounds very different, let alone the older synths like MicroQ). Also I'm not sure how well Discovery does Nord, never owned one but I've heard a number of Nord demos online which I'm not sure Discovery could recreate. I've noted that when I was using only softsynths, my output sounded more or less similar to modern prog/full-on sound, maybe not as good mixed and mastered but with similar clarity and presence in sounds, when I switched to Virus, my tracks started to sound like mid 00's psy, not as clear and bright but subjectively more "alive".
