Ouch, my bad, I don't follow everything Psynews shits on

Typical Psynews, pick a subgenre which is not goa and shit on it. The only unifying criterion of prog is that it is less intense and usually slower than other psy, besides that prog is very diverse, it may or may not be minimal, may or may not be melodic, may or may not be trippy, may or may not be cheesy, may or may not be made by a random clueless dude who has just installed Fruity Loops and torrented the latest preset pack. Lots of prog i think is really good, like Relativ/Sideform, Vibrasphere/Robert Elster, Andromeda, Suntree, Freq, some Lyctum, Static Movement, Motion Drive, Ticon, NOK, Ellinio and Orisma, etc, too many to name. Well, as regards the current state of prog, the ultimate truth is this

And as always, the amount of useful information is close to zero. Why bother reviewing the style you obviously dislike? Probably if I were to review bigband jazz, it would be like that "again these saxes and trumpets, how annoying, where are the proper synths?". I didn't hear this compilation (except for the first track which is seriously awesome) but judging from the lineup it must be good for people who love melodic full-on. Like I do.

Digicult and Tropical wtf (can't spell their name for the life of me) are what I'm listening to daily. Low on psychedelia but good at being good. Atma is good at the most part, but sometimes too "squarey" (if you get what i mean)

thanks, Richpa. yes, that's Russian, everything is legible now. I guess, this is an orthodox prayer.

They are supposed to sing in Russian or what? I can't understand a single word. Btw, Batushka is "the priest" in Russian.

Antic, check out Sonic Elysium if you didn't already. I can't say for sure that you'll like it but at least you may find it interesting As for Terrafractyl, idk, his music has all the right elements, the melodies, the trippyness, it is very complex technically, but for some reason it doesn't really move me.

Well, I have to say that Virus seriously kicks ass. During my first few months with it I thought it is just another cool softsynth, only put into a dedicated box, but finally I realized that it's got just this sound which I always associated with quality psytrance.
-
I mean it really is. Basically this is what I was for a long time looking for. Real melodies + deep and trippy psychedelia I need more such music, what can you recommend? I think U-Recken would be the most obvious recommendation but I believe I already have anything ever released by him. Also I remember Space Buddha - No Shields sounded kinda similar, should re-listen it. Also Sonic Elysium - Mahaon has some resemblance to DN, perhaps more chaotic track structures but also great melodies. Anything else I should check out? I guess, some people may suggest Braincell or Psilocybian but this is not what I need, they have different kind of melodies, less euphonic and more on twisted/evil side. The contrast between euphonic melodies and trippy/dark sounds and effects is basically what I need.

he is successful in marrying the daughter of the right guy afaik I don't follow what he is saying on the web but people of this kind usually consider all the others pretty dumb

By this kind of judgement, this is must be one of the most clever guys in the world He has enough income to show it off in the internet

Do you, Americans, say "dart" instead of "fart"? Like "frak" instead of "fuck" etc. If so, then the thread was already useful cause I've learned this.

I don't get your comments at all. Technically, full-on and twillight bass are almost the same thing, maybe the filter envelope is set slightly differently. If a bassline works in the context, it is good. Astrix and Electro Sun use hi-hats, should "serious" artists ditch them? But what I sincerely hate the most is the concept that "serious" psytrance should avoid this or that element. This leads to craploads of "serious" but utterly boring and formulaic music. Imo, the only thing "serious" psytrance should avoid, is being boring.

Pretty crazy stuff, to me it has some similarities to darkpsy kind of craizness (especially the second one), yet very melodious

Very nice compilation. Pretty diverse and most tracks are more or less melodic, indeed. Nebulosity and Hermetic are real killers. Brekeke's track is also very good, dreamy and melodious (with such a name I thought it must be some darkpsy or forest but it isn't). Spiritual Mode is not bad either, maybe a bit too similar to Tesseract stuff so someone may call it derivative, but I loved it. The others also did great job, there is no track here which I'd call a filler - all of them have their moments.
