Sounds really good, I like the atmosphere and progression, the production is just fine. Building up on your own words, it sounds a bit like you're undecided whether you want it to be melodic, or dark / textured and as a result it's neither here or there: for melodic it's too constrained (and - surprisingly - limited mostly to bass) and for dark/textured it's too narrow - the sounds are there, but they don't develop / morph as much as I'd like them to. But you're definitely on the right path and it's quite impressive if it's really only a year since you started producing, although I understand you were doing other music before it as well. Actually, "Africa" and "Consciousness" are better tracks than "India", at least IMO. Subscribed to your SC!

WTF, just had my real taste of the all-digital future In opening post I mentioned that Nano Rec. had their store open on Bandcamp (nanorecords.bandcamp.com), so I went there and took advantage of the -50% discount on their full digital catalogue, which at the time consisted of 3 artist albums. In the meantime they've added few more releases there. Today I wanted to go there to check if there's maybe some new stuff. To my surprise I was re-directed to Bandcamp's main site. So I went to my collection, and found out that the releases are gone. I mailed both Bandcamp and Nano Rec. about it and we'll see what's going on, but - very likely - this was a scam by someone not really related to Nano... Nice.

Obviously not, he can viably do both. Just don't see the risk he's mentioning - if all his clients moved to buying digital, he'd still (or maybe even more?!) be able to release stuff.
-
Why is that? I'd think that what you & others are doing is releasing music, not producing plastic? I'm also pretty sure that by purchasing digital you get bigger share of my money, even if I pay a bit less overall, so it's good for both sides: I buy more music, you get more money, we cut "the middle man". Sure, it's slightly different with collector items like your IFO or Global Sect's 4CD comps, which I'll still consider buying physically, but otherwise I don't see the risk you're talking about. Old people like me will rant about how downloads should be much cheaper because there's no pressing, packaging and shipping; but most consumers nowadays - who were not there in CD era - are expecting and are OK with a full-length costing around EUR/USD/GBP 10 and this won't change.

X-Dream - Remixed [Flying Rhino]
antic604 replied to antic604's topic in Artist News and Labels announcements
How do you know? Are there samples up somewhere? -
BTW, over the weekend one drawback of going all-digital became apparent: it's now much easier to click that "buy" button. I'll probably spend less per release, but will possibly buy more overall (incl. EPs and such smaller releases that I wouldn't have otherwise). But it's great knowing, that I can buy stuff at the source, maximising the share of my money that actually support the artists & labels. Feels so good

Looks like it actually happens this time: https://www.psyshop.com/shop/CDs/bbs/bbs2cd010.html -
Are there really people that collect goa/psy to profit in the future? It's very unlikely that most of 'our' releases will be worth anything in the future, so if that's your reason to hold on to plastic then reconsider your ways...

Triquetra - Fungus Fever EP [self-released]
antic604 replied to antic604's topic in Artist News and Labels announcements
No feedback? This is such an awesome release - fast, acidic, swirling with melodies and caleidoscopic! Wish I could get this on CD (oh wait, I wouldn't... ) -
Bandcamp gives you the option to d/l wavs or flacs, so what's your excuse again? I'm buying (bought) few dozens of CDs every year, but I'm pretty sure in last 2 or 3 years I've not unwraped any of them because I got the files along with the plastic and liner notes have become the thing of the past with very few notable exceptions, like 'collector' releases from DAT or Global Sect. Otherwise it's just credits, mastering & artwork info, which I can find elsewhere. No, this thread is not for you so please go somewhere else

Hypnoxock - Eurythmia [Goa Madness Rec.]
antic604 replied to antic604's topic in Artist News and Labels announcements
Only browsed quickly, but it's incredible! Hope to write a review over the weekend -
Yeah, that would be awesome! Just today I found out that Twisted has a bandcamp store with most of their greatest releases (too bad no compilations there...) but everything is 7GBP, which is too much. If they were like 2-3GBP per album I'd buy them, even if I have everything already on CD. But then again, for new clients it's probably a very nice price. This reminded me - it's gonna be difficult not buying the "Codex 6" CD when it comes out. Or that X-Dream 2CD remix album. Fuck
-
I totally get this! The decision was also partially triggered by me coming back (slooooowly...) to writing music and realising that it all happens nowadays in a computer anyway. So I started to ask myself why I need to have the product of it physically? If I ever write something that someone would like to hear, would I care if it was printed on CD? Don't think so anymore. I know it's a good choice, just gotta have strength & stick with it
-
Sorry, but suddenly I feel lighter and more free By creating the topic - even if no one would support me - I draw the line in the sand, so to speak. I already see it's gonna be hard, especially for things I know I'd love or collector items like the one you release or Dat or Global Sect. But I just don't see the point in buying them anymore. I actually think what to do with the stuff that I already have...
-
So, I decided I need to stop buying CDs, simply because: - I've really run out of space to store them, - they cost more, both per release and because of shipping fees, - the hassle with trying to find where & how to order CDs from different labels and artists to optimise shipping cost is getting really tiresome, - I never really use the CDs anymore, because I either d/l the files that come along (Bandcamp, Psyshop, etc.) or rip the CD and leave it on the shelf, - the labels / artists get bigger cut, because I pay them directly and not to the distributors, pressing plants, transportation companies, etc. So, today instead of going to Psyshop to get my - shameful, I admit - Nano Rec. fix I bought their 3 recent releases via their newly opened Bandcamp store taking advantage of 35% for full catalogue (I really advice on checking Pogo's "Rock Your Soul", not sure about the other two...). I also did the same with new Hypnoxocks album, bought via Goa Madness Bandcamp store that also opened just recently! Fells so liberating, although it's hard - I got all Goa Madness releases on CDs thus far! The real struggle will come when there's new release by Suntrip, or Zion604, or Cronomi, etc. Who's with me? Let's support ourselves to pull through

The Maniac - Dimethyl Dreams (128 BPM)
antic604 replied to Themaniac's topic in Free Music Promotion
Very nice, the melodies flow well, I like the change of pace The only issue - and I don't think it's very noticeable - is some kind of side chain / compressor applied to the master, resulting in overall sound 'ducking' ever so slightly rhythmically. Your tracks are sufficiently loud as they are, so I think you can dial that down a bit? -
Ok, so here's what I got to work with: - Surface Pro 4 i7 8/256gb - just bought it on sale in UK, not a power-house but gets the job done (current project hovers around 20-25% with low Asio4All latency), - Arturia MiniLab - great for controlling 16 parameters at once, though got to have my whole family help me with it as I only have two hands - Bayerdynamics DT990 Pro - clean, flat-sounding headphones but leak like crazy (they're open), so I don't really crank them up very much, especially at nights, - Ableton Live 9 Suite - an industry standard and really powerful software, with an LT skin. The main idea of this setup is that it's extremely portable. As you can see, I have to studio so to speak, so I need to be able to pack it all up quickly and hide in the closet.

Well, they were sounding different (and very good) with their 1st album, but subsequent releases were all in the same vein: I call it folk goa, and there's nothing wrong with it, but they've become very predictable - full album is like one, 1h+ long track with the same bass, percussions and melodies. Good in small doses, but I usually listen to whole albums, so it's not for me. Good luck

It sounds like (better version of) Goasia, so I'd try Suntrip? or Zion604?

Don't know yet, only just bought it. Sound like strong 3/5, maybe 4/5.
