  1. Sorry, I meant it as a joke. You sound(ed) like you were looking for a fight
  2. Oh, they indeed are, but in a cute and adorable way, like most of Douglas Adams' characters. I've not read the books, so maybe indeed it's not what he was originally going for? Still, I'd recommend to really try it - it gains momentum and starts to make sense in 2nd half of the season.
  3. In a feisty mood today? Someone posted digital artwork on discogs.com instead of scan / photo? ;P
  4. That made me curious - why not for sex? Unless you only have sex when bathing, which would make sense then
  5. You don't need to convince me - that's how trackers traditionally work
  6. I'm thinking of switching to a new DAW, because the tracker paradigm - I'm using Renoise - which I grow up with was working great on Amiga (just 4 tracks, 8-bit samples, etc.) to get the most of it, but seems to really constrain my creativity and more importantly gets in the way of the workflow now, with practically unlimited possibilities with regards to sound sculpting and arrangement. Upon checking many "Best DAW" lists, watching videos, etc. I'm leaning towards either Ableton's Live or Bitwig. I can upgrade from Live "Lite" (which I got with my Arturia Minilab) to "Standard" version for EUR 240, while Bitwig would cost EUR 300, but the latter seems to come with more stuff (instruments, effects, samples) as default - so the price difference isn't really that big and important. But which has better features and more familiar work-flow for someone who only worked with trackers? Both seem to operate on very similar principle: 1st you come up with a collection of clips and ideas, that you can organise in "scenes" and then you can arrange those clips & scenes in a full track - this very much fits into my idea of how I want to work. I understand Live is much longer on the market (since 2001 vs. 2014 for Bitwig) which makes it thoroughly tested, feature-packed and stable, but then Bitwig doesn't really seem to be missing any key features and on top of that has a lot of small things (like side-by-side clip & arranger views, in-track mix of MIDI and audio clips, per-note setting of selected MIDI parameters, etc.) which are really great, especially for electronic music. I guess Bitwig appeals to me more, because it seems more modern (for a lack of a better word), but on the other hand Live - with already being on version 9 - gives more confidence as a product. Any suggestions, ideally based on experience with both?
  7. I can think of at least three reasons for bouncing (anything, not just bass): - your computer is too slow to handle all VSTs, - you want to do some stuff with your sound that's impossible with MIDI, - you want to prevent yourself from further tweaking something that works already (as in "art is never finished, merely abandoned"), All 3 valid reasons, I'd think EDIT: by the way, Bitwig Studio allows to have mixed Midi and Audio clips on the same track, which I guess is the best of both worlds: https://youtu.be/p0cEybK76Gk?t=4m57s
  8. I just started watching "Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency" on Netflix, which is based on Douglas Adams' book(s). As expected, it's properly weird and funny, with very strange characters and convoluted plot. The premise is really weird - the titular detective instead of focusing on finding clues and evidence, somehow believes that is enough for him to follow whatever happens, because he's destined to solve the crime that way. And it works indeed... I'm on S01E02 right now, but I really like it! Trailer:
  9. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marquis_Who's_Who Apparently they want to publish your biography or "memoirs"? I'd actually read that...
  10. Thanks for the heads up! It does sound really good - like a mix between Alien Mental, Furious and Psykovsky
  11. Agree, like with most 2CD releases it would be better to have just one disc with the very best tracks. Still, in this case I really can't fault them - there's no bad tracks really, even if it does get repetitive at times. It helps - for me at least - that the sound is so "fresh": very clean, straight and simple yet powerful. A lot of current artists trying to mimic the "old-school" style end up sounding very thin, almost to the point of amateur - but that's not how synths back then sounded like! It probably is a foreign thing for most of people, but I hear a lot of analog synths of the 80' and 90' there and I'm reminded of the times when - while in college - I'd go to music shops and play on that hardware, tweaking the sounds, experimenting with patches, fooling around with sequencers. I could never afford one at the time, but that pure, simplistic but very full, energetic sound of the old synths was so captivating! Another plus for this release is that almost all tracks are written in collaboration, which always brings that freshness into the music: different sounds, ideas, character, etc.
  12. It is such an incredible release I really HATE the cover art, but the music, sounds, energy, storytelling - it's all there! Another to-be-classic release from DAT Records
  13. Great stuff @psytones and @thegoaconstrictor! I personally never got any goa/psy-trance related gifts, because my family isn't really into this music (to put it mildly...). I could probably say I buy myself some CDs for Christmas or something, but then I probably buy similar amount of music every month so it doesn't really count.
  14. I'll be there day one to pre-order, but with 4 CDs I'm a bit worried about the quality vs. quantity. I'm still not very familiar with their previous VA "The Mystery of Crystal Worlds" because there's so much filler there... For that reason I liked the free-to-preorderers "Prologue" much more, because it was short and high quality throughout. Still, very excited for this one. My wallet is ready
  15. Now my post up there looks stupid. The track is totally transformed and is basically flawless, not to mention it is musically and sonically awesome! Someone, please release this guy's music
  16. @Draeke, Thanos81, Anoebis/Mars - here's your cue, you know what to do, I'll bring the money
  17. There's 16 covers + comment on each, just scroll down. Or maybe change browser or device? It's there.
  18. Thanks for the review - I wasn't aware of this album and it is very much right up my street! Full album available for preview & purchase: Soundcloud, Bandcamp
  19. Don't do that, psy-trance is a serious music! Actually not. Do whatever you want, just be aware that a lot of people - myself included - don't appreciate "crazy" / "fool around" melodies. Just check the reviews for recent Crossing Mind's CD
  20. Scroll down? BTW, I actually liked the ideas for GoW & Metaloids and HuxFlux covers, although both were let down by technical & artistic incompetence of involved "artists"...
  21. Really good track - dark, mysterious! It would be even better if the gated "synth" that's appearing at 5:40 was introduced earlier (after that awesome part around 3:00!) and developed into something more elaborate, especially if you could also add more energy to the drums in 2nd part: some groovy hi-hat work, a snare or maybe some jungle / dnb loop. I really like the style though, the care about detail, nuance and backgrounds! Subscribed! ("Burning Zaden" is great as well!)
  22. Very nice sound, but I wish more was happening in that track - it starts and ends with very similar intensity, without much development throughout as it's only the percussion that's changing. A stronger bass line would also fit there, possibly as an additional layer to make it more exciting after the break?
