Considering the (very minor) benefits of X1S over regular X1 that you already have, I don't get that. But OK - to each his own

What music are you listening to right now?

Squarepusher "Ufabulum" The whole album is dark, aggressive, unsettling ...but beautiful. Just check this out: -
Future Frequency - Freakuencies [Nano Rec.]
antic604 replied to antic604's topic in Artist News and Labels announcements
To me the above sounds like definition of minimal techno Also, if Son Kite's "Colour" is considered progressive, then how come it contains a lot of energy, climaxes and abrupt changes? In the end I still believe it's mostly about slower tempo, providing more breathing room for the sounds to get manipulated, processed and rich, just like Zenon Rec. This is just slow(er) full-on without any degree of nuance or subtlety, just like Astral Projection's slowed down version of goa tunes weren't ambient for me... -
Thanks! But it still doesn't ring a bell for me. Sorry

Why yes? What's the added value (for you)? Just curious and I won't try to sway you to the Playstation camp, don't worry. I myself was debating whether or not to buy PS4 Pro, but decided that - with my playing habits - it doesn't make much sense if I already have a PS4. In a sense X1S is a much smaller increase over the X1 than Pro is over PS4, so that's why I'm asking

Crossing Mind - Beyond Duality (SUNCD42)
antic604 replied to Anoebis's topic in Artist News and Labels announcements
After giving it some more time I've found it works better - for me - when listening on speakers and not headphones, because then I tend to notice less all those small things that bother me and because I'm usually concentrated on something else (like e.g. driving the car). But even then, I still cringe at some of the "bigger" melodies, progressions or sounds, even though there are breathtaking moments there as well... It's just that those feelings of happiness, carelessness and naivety are not something I appreciate in psychedelic goa trance. Especially because they emerge out of nowhere - as said above the tracks usually start and end great, but fall apart in the middle. A full 5/5 for "Cyclotron" that is damn near perfect! A weak 3/5 for the album as a whole. Sorry... -
They released this EP a year ago: http://www.arabesquedistribution.com/index.php?option=com_artistavenue&task=singleCd&id=3531&Itemid=99999999 And follow-up is in the pipeline: http://www.arabesquedistribution.com/index.php?option=com_artistavenue&task=singleCd&id=3644&Itemid=1 I'm not holding my breath, though...

Future Frequency - Freakuencies [Nano Rec.]
antic604 replied to antic604's topic in Artist News and Labels announcements
True, but it was always associated with slower music, so I'm surprised to hear 140bps is progressive nowadays -
The Accountant A surprisingly good, deeper than usual action movie in the vein of - and better than, IMO - Jason Bourne (series), Jack Reacher or John Wick. I was worried that Ben Affleck might ruin it, but he actually pulled this one of maybe because his character was autistic and his "wooden" playing was a good match? I really enjoyed the action sequences, the plot was interesting although you need to take it all with a grain of salt. Worth seeing!

@SixZeroFou4 - why do you consider purchasing X1S if you have X1 already? In terms of performance it's something like 5% faster than regular X1 therefore it won't display games better on a 4K monitor; it will upscale them (from mostly below native 1080p) just like the regular X1S does, with very minor boost in FPS in select titles. Is your 4K monitor at least HDR capable, because that would be some benefit for the games that support it? Or do you plan buying UHD Blurays and you don't have dedicated player? If you prefer to stick with Xbox brand wouldn't it be better to wait for Scorpio by the end of 2017? @Richpa - good to see a fellow PS4 user! In my case I'm mostly buying games to ...not play them. I think the only ones I actually finished were The Order 1886 and Inside, which is hardly an accomplishment considering their length (the latter is awesome, though!!!). On the other hand I could sink endless hours in Driveclub, Dirt Rally or - more recently - Alienation. As I get older I see that I gravitate either to old-schoolish arcade games (like Alienation, Resogun, Super Stardust) or short/mid length story-telling & puzzle games (like Vanishing of Ethan Carter, Soma, Inside, etc.). I started Uncharted 4, Metro Redux, Ratchet & Clank and got bored somewhere 1/3 in, even if they're great games by all accounts.

Future Frequency - Freakuencies [Nano Rec.]
antic604 replied to antic604's topic in Artist News and Labels announcements
I thought "prog" was supposed to be 120-130bpm? If 140 is prog, then I need to speed up my track I started yesterday because I don't want to be associated with that "style" -
Your modular synth of choice?
antic604 replied to Goa Travellers's topic in Music Making and Production/Industry
Love the pic, wasn't particularly fond of the sample How do you integrate that in your music which, presumably, is made in some sort of computer DAW? Can you hook up the synth to the computer and drive / sequence it from the PC via MIDI, USB or at lest VC, or do you have to sequence the synth using some old-school hardware sequencer and then record the output to your DAW and sync with the rest? I love things like that - recently played with Arturia's MicroBrute at the music store - but I'm afraid the endless tweaking possibilities would stifle my creativity even further... -
Marketing blurb: Future Frequency is the progressive brainchild of two of the most renowned psy-trance producers, Avalon & Sonic Species, as a platform to express themselves through more groovy soundscapes. Having already gained a massive following and unanimous appreciation for their bass drenched psychedelic creations; they felt the time was ripe to share their debut album with the world. Besides their slamming solo tracks in this collection, they have also remixed and collaborated with some of the most cutting-edge progressive acts currently on the scene, including: Ace Ventura, Captain Hook, Vertical Mode, Vini Vici, Liquid Soul and Astrix! Plus a special appearance from the Hang Massive. Tune in to experience the future of Freakuencies! Yeah, well - don't know about all that, but it sounds - track #3 onward at least - decent enough. If anything, I'm slightly confused at Nano labelling it as "progressive", because it's clearly full-on just like e.g. latest Astrix album or Nano's own excellent V/A "A Taste of South African Psychedelics". Track Listing: 01. Future Frequency - King Of The Swing 02. Vini Vici - Veni Vidi Vici (Future Frequency Remix) 03. Future Frequency - Shut Your Eyes 04. Liquid Soul - Revolution (Future Frequency Remix) 05. Future Frequency - Freakuencies 06. Ace Ventura & Captain Hook - The Jolly Roger (Future Frequency Remix) 07. Future Frequency vs Vertical Mode -The Real Reality 08. Astrix - Underbeat (Future Frequency Remix) 09. Future Frequency Feat. Hang Massive - Into The Future Full thing available to preview on Nano Rec's Soundcloud and YouTube (BTW, gotta love when labels are doing it!).

Gotta love when people come here looking for some answers and then never come back with a follow up or thank you...

Well, Billy has the advantage of being a real, professional musician with years of experience as a session guitarist in various pop, funk & jazz bands and you can (could?) actually hear it in his music, when he'd often describe the general musical idea he had for particular piece and how he realised it by building the rest of the track around it. If you haven't already, check his thoughts in here: https://cosmosis.bandcamp.com/album/synergy https://cosmosis.bandcamp.com/album/contact https://cosmosis.bandcamp.com/album/psychedelica-melodica

I guess my previous (Amiga times) approach worked the best for me - basically I wrote music in an order you hear it in its final form: I'd start with intro, then slowly build up other elements, then add breaks and then put climax at the end. In final stretch I'd maybe shuffle some things around, but very rarely. Each step somehow was giving me an inspiration for what needs to come next. Also, technical simplicity of writing music on Amiga allowed to quickly nail things down, so it was impossible to fiddle around with effects or patches for hours, which is incredibly distracting I need to try that approach again - try to get the overall structure and arrangement of the track down and only then start fiddling with the details...

I stumbled on an interesting blog-post that perfectly describes the struggle I've been having for the last 16+ years, i.e. getting stuck with a perfectly produced, great sounding ...loop; that I can't make the song of off. Might be interesting to others as well: https://quantizecourses.com/2016/07/how-to-finish-tracks/

Imba - First Encounter [Suntrip Rec.]
antic604 replied to antic604's topic in Artist News and Labels announcements
@Imba, send me the files so I could do a day-one review! Oh, wait... shit Really looking forward to this one. Over years your output has indeed progressed quite a lot from a producer that worked mainly in co-ops and doing remixes (posts like this only reinforced that feeling) to an artist with his own individual sound and style. I'm very curious to hear that 3+ years of work. -
Scorb - Aeon Conundra [Trick Music]
antic604 replied to antic604's topic in Artist News and Labels announcements
Have you heard Squid Inc. album I linked above? It's not all great but it definitely has its moments and it's very Scorb-y / Deviant Species-ish -
Just did, but I'm not really addicted or even don't really need it - I can drink it before going to sleep and it doesn't bother me. I basically drink 1 cup a day and not every day even, mainly just for the taste.

It's funny, because I find myself listening to this mostly in the car as well - it somehow works very well in that context, although it must confuse a lot of people when I'm stuck in a traffic jam or at the pedestrian crossing and there's this loud kick/bass thumping from a company VW Passat driven by mid-aged guy in suit & tie
