  1. Thank you! Wait for the in-depth review in few weeks... BTW, I just realised @PaulEye will give me a hard time when I put it in discogs...
  2. That's the "direct artist / label support tax" Buying from 3rd party they surely get much smaller cut of the revenue, especially with Psyshop / Beatspace. I usually don't mind as long as it's reasonable, i.e. 2-3EUR more.
  3. Earlier this year I was stoked and thrilled to find out that my beloved label - to the point I sleep with the manager and contribute financially to its operations - is about to put out another, 3rd release! Wednesday morning it finally got delivered and while the package was bare bones, sticky and dirty; the content looks solid and overall production values are top notch. The sound is typical for the label, although in contrast to 1st release and continuing the trend set by 2nd it is more gentle, a bit less noisy and it seems like this time it's even less erratic and more predictable, though it still shows the edge sometimes, with screechy, screamy bits. I'm sure over time its particular quirks will get more apparent to me as I get to know it better and it earns its place in my collection. Who knows, maybe I'll even dedicate a room to store it? Right out of the shrink wrap: Next to the 2nd release: Unfortunately this is an extremely limited print and you'll have to make your own arrangements to get a copy
  4. Logic Bomb just published a teaser for forthcoming album: Sounds good, similar to their previous ("The Grid"), i.e. psychedelic prog trance.
  5. Wow, sounds really great! Looking forward to it BTW, is Negans is a woman ("Elie" sounds like a feminine name to me)?
  6. Well, still not convinced by the melodies, the kick is basically the same throughout the album, out of 8 tracks at least 5 are in the same root-note, the cover is weird and the Celtic fonts, wooden desk, Himalayas and Cthulu make for a weird combo... Still, will buy it day one
  7. Well, for me Ra is an artist of "one sound", i.e. ethereal, deep, melodic goa and if you 1) don't like that style and/or 2) hoped they'd somehow change / evolve; then I'm not in the slightest surprised hearing some people are disappointed with this... Furthermore it's evident from Joske's comment ("the last?") that Ra's not much into creating that music anymore, and you can't force anyone to create art when they don't have heart for it... I'll probably buy it, just like any other Suntrip release, but I'm not their biggest fan either. Also, I'm not fond of Suntrip's mastering as of late - it's too loud, harsh & piercing (it started around Celestial Intelligence's CD) and while it might complement more aggressive music - e.g. Morphic Resonance's album - here it just sounds out of place, because the music itself is gentle, smooth and soothing. But I guess it works on the dance floor and I'm in vast minority of goa-trance consumers never listening to it at a party, so there's that...
  8. Yeah, compare THAT to today's "live acts"... Even though I'm personally not very fond of Etnica / Pleiadian's music, both IFO Live and Etnica Live '96 showcase that their *performances* were actually that - they were playing the music from the sequences, using actual hardware synths and tweaking it on the fly. Today's artists - mostly - merely *appear* and press PLAY...
  9. As promised my review is up: https://www.psynews.org/forums/topic/72409-psychowave-dancefloor-metadata-boom-rec/
  10. Psychowave - The Open Ceremony Psychowave - Musica Psychowave - Ground Groove Psychowave - Nav Gate Bahia Psychowave - Love Act Psychowave - Dancem Macacos, Dancem (2015 Remix) Via Axis - The 4th State (Psychowave Remix) Psychowave - Sunrise Prelude Psychowave - Elves On The Dancefloor As it often happens, I stumbled upon this by pure chance (on Soundcloud, I think) because the cover art was so striking: boldly coloured, drawing inspiration from the old-school fractal collages, stylishly merging the spiritual, earthly and futuristic. The next thing I noticed was Boom Records logo - home to the BoTFB, Fractal Glider, Principles of Flight - and my interest immediately piqued, even though I wasn't at all familiar with Natan Bueno's - admittedly modest - body of work. I checked the samples and was sold on the spot. To my mind "Dancefloor Metadata" should be classified as melodic psy-trance, not really a "Goa"-trance. While it's full of acid sounds, soaring synths and pads, at places gets very dense, elaborate and trippy; it somehow avoids the typical Goa cliches and instead relies on more typical, I'd venture to use the word "theatrical" melodies. What I mean is that while Infected Mushroom, Talpa or Nystagmus went all-in with incorporating classical music structures in psy-trance aesthetics, Psychowave made sort of half-step, i.e. the atmosphere is serious and usually somber or melancholic, the melodies are dignified, exalted and sophisticated, but it falls short of creating little concertos, etudes or symphonies those other artists aspired to. Mind you, I'm not saying it is bad (for trying and failing to achieve that) and I think this was a conscious decision - it's definitely a pretty distinct, unique style that safely avoids sounding "like 100-s of other goa-trance albums" and steers clear from being perceived as tacky or cheesy (or "IM-copycat"). The album is consistent in terms of style, but individual tracks are distinct enough to provide variety. I liked in particular the the jazzy / old-school techno-ish chord progressions in #2 and #3 (when you sample the full chord and transpose it up/down), well implemented singing in #4, the trancey drive of #7 and acid-lines in basically all of the tracks. What I wasn't fond of were some of the "real" instruments, especially violins in #1 or #6 and it took me some weeks to get over Brazilian speech samples - I mean they sound fine, but the language will forever link in my head with TV soap operas... On the whole, this is an immensely enjoyable album - melodic, acidic, trippy and ...not afraid to sound different. It's good music, expressed using psy-trance tools and techniques. 4/5 Samples: Buy here: https://boomrecords.bandcamp.com/album/dancefloor-metadata http://www.psyshop.com/shop/CDs/bom/bom1cd034.html http://beatspace.com/8809/BooM+Records/PSYCHOWAVE/Dancefloor+Metadata/detail.aspx https://play.google.com/store/music/album/Psychowave_Dancefloor_Metadata?id=Bdcolum3cqvjjekma5oulvixh24
  11. Thanks. I missed it while Suntrip had it and now I can only find it on discogs.com or some obscure Japanese web store... One more reason to go fully digital
  12. Any hints on where to buy it still on a CD? Thanks!
  13. I know this is joke topic, but I'll bite... I guess it's more about mastering standards then & now, than the actual equipment or software. Nowadays you need to be as loud as possible, as low & high (in terms of frequency) as possible. With short attention span of today's media consumers the music needs to be immediately catchy, attention-grabbing, very direct with lots of opposite / contrasting qualities. In the past it was more about balance, gentlessness, flow and melody. Nowadays it's more about sounds and textures, about creating shock & awe BTW, this is on music in general, not just goa/psy-trance, but obviously general standards influence each genre to certain extent.
  14. Well, some parts of it are rather interesting, e.g. the whole (old-school) Infected Mushroom / Talpa / Nystagmus classical-music vibe is fine and it required some balls (or cluelessness...) to pull off. However, the production leaves a lot to be desired - it's criminally oversteered / overcompressed and unbalanced. Furthermore, the arrangement is basically non-existent: it starts, goes on for 8+ minutes and fades out, with barely any change in intensity, distinct breaks or engaging story-telling.
  15. Well, I'm working on it on my side Lots of awesome & adequately priced music - goa/psy and otherwise - on Google's store. Just hope the artists & labels get their fair cut.
  16. The version I linked to has full tracks, while the one by Zion604 required some of them to be cut slightly to fit onto CD. So I indeed actually purchased both - 2EUR is a price of a sandwich...
  17. You probably won't find it cheaper than this: ~2 EUR https://play.google.com/store/music/album/Oforia_Read_More?id=Bqpwj724xdivhjl2ni4s2pvmk2u Although that's the original album, without extra tracks in Zion604's re-release.
  18. Not really sure what you're trying to say: is it that we all gonna die (because of the "nuclear war") or that - on contrary - we're going to survive thanks to space exploration? Or maybe that he's "speeding back to Earth" to kill us with "chain of (...) weather and natural disasters" just in time before we're able to escape our planet?
  19. If you're familiar with Amiga music demo-scene sound and Chris Huelsbeck soundtracks to games like Apidya, Turrican 1-3, Jim Power, R-Type, then check out Velocity2X OST: If you liked Lunar Dawn's "Kolovrat" album, then Witcher 3's OST has similarly slavic / medieval vibe, although - obviously - it's not trance: Also, for something more playful and relaxed: Kettel - Ibb & Obb OST: ...and Journey OST:
  20. Thanks for warning. Their store is a joke - I tried searching for "Carbon Based Lifeforms" and it found nothing. When I chose CBL from drop-down list it only showed the (sold out) LPs and only via "Best sellers" page I was able to find the CDs. Way to make it easy for (potential) customers...
  21. Ok, I definitely will - I liked what I heard. Thanks! What about: Nystagmus ‎– The Immaculate Perception The Misted Muppet - From The Legend ?
