Oh, looking forward to the review. For me this is kind of like Nano Rec. full-on but trying to be smarter, more intellectual - with much less repetition, usually very good, emotional melodies and refreshing sound variety. For some reason however it doesn't capture my attantion like Hypnocoustics or Masters Blasters. I think he tries to fit in too many ideas into single track and it simply doesn't always work well, doesn't gel properly and as a result the tracks seem unfocused... Still, I liked it a lot! 4/5

Wrong. There's no such thing as "thing"

Sorry? Please read other reviews or the album thread in news / accouncements - there's a lot of comparing it to GNoTR, Pleiadians, etc. My comment is meant to challange that assumption, because it sets a bar of expectations that this album doesn't reach. And I'm not rating it 4/5 because it's not as good as those artists (and I'm not a fan of Pleiadians...), but because it doesn't deserve - IMO - a full 5/5 rating on its own, at least in a way I understand a 5/5, i.e. a classic music, that everyone - regardless of sub-genre preferences - must own. It's not it. EDIT: also, selective quoting FTW

Oh, I just remembered one that fits right in - "Overcoming Occhiolism" off of Globular's recent album. In addition to being the best track on there, it contains a sample that always moves me: "We might have no meaning in the cosmic context of the universe, but we make our meaning daily with each other. It's the thought that leads to action. Your days are numbered, you don't know what that number is but it's finite. So get busy with whatever it is you want to do. Time is running out".

Well, what if the "reality is only an illusion, a holographic projection of our minds" is true? If that's the case, there are two options that I can think of: 1) Martix-style, i.e. someone / something (aliens?) is generating this world for us and we're "slaves" in real world 2) I'm the only conscious being in the universe and my "brain" created the world around me just for me, including you, this very forum and even this conversation that in reality I'm having with "myself"

I have a soft spot for Cosmosis' "Contact" album, which - throughought its length - tells a story of human evolution from money & instincts-driven, self-destructing homo sapiens to enlightened species living with other extraterrestrials in 'intergalactic community' outside our so-called reality, that is only an illusion and holographic projection of our minds. https://youtu.be/inHvnRvFPkk https://youtu.be/QBuRpO_BAfk https://youtu.be/3D7p5Lq3F6Y https://youtu.be/VRGulLGUJe8 Not really a moral piece, but definitely an interesting comment on human condition in the context of infinite universe

Really? Comming off of brilliant "Journey Through My Head" this one seems rather bland and uninspired. I'm on my 10th full-length listen and I can't recall single track nor a memorable moment. Hope it grows on me, because I loved his compilation tracks and the debut album a lot...

A very good album, but not a 2nd coming of Jesus as some would make you believe I really like the rawness, the simple - but effective - old-school production, straightforward arrangements with focus on building & release of energy. It's refreshing to hear "less complex" sound for once, instead of the boiler-plate swirly, ethereal stuff we get usually. However, the comparisons with Pleiadians and GNoTR are stretching it - sure, there are some similar sounds, atmosphere and overal aesthetic, but it's tangibly less evolved than their output. The melodic side of the music is rather simple, with short arpreggios that usually don't go anywhere and rely on repetition to induce trance state - compare that with Pleiadians' genious multi-layered sonic excursions and the gap is clearly there. Likewise, the 303-focus of the music is very welcome, but what's here lacks in creativity, texturing and funkiness of what GNoTR or Somaton/Shakta were putting out back in the days. On the other hand, it's very welcome to see a darker undertones in goa trance: industrial sounds, well-implemented guitars, overall dirty / gritty production reminiscent of Cydonia, Semsis, Menis, SUN Project, etc. As others pointed out - there's clearly a very huge potential here and their next album(s) might be where it all "clicks" together and is taken to the next level. But having said that, in the here & now it's still a worthy addition to any respectable collection. 4/5

Suntrip: the official sales-topic!
antic604 replied to Anoebis's topic in Artist News and Labels announcements
I'm actually fine with that - if labels can skip past the retailer to get bigger cut, then I'm willing to support that. I mean I'd have to pay the 10-12EUR anyway to get the CD, so why not choose the way that benefits the artists & labels more? What I have problem with is digital downloads costing the same as CDs. After all there's no manufacturing costs, packaging, transportation (from pressing plant to label / distributor / shops), etc. But thats not specific to goa/psy or even to music - e.g. digital games on PS4 usually cost 10-15% more than physical discs, which is just ridiculous... -
+1, sounds really good!

Suntrip: the official sales-topic!
antic604 replied to Anoebis's topic in Artist News and Labels announcements
Jos, thanks a lot for doing it! EDIT: So happy to see overall sales still going up & moving to more direct channels, providing higher share of the revenue to label & artists (Suntrip store, Discogs, Bandcamp). Awesome work, Jos & Mars! -
Ok, since I was literally called out... I think this album is only OK and not really essential if one has "Ultimate Experience". For me, UX was always about those twirly, wiggly, elastic melodies heard on 1st half of their debut album ("Life Support Technology", "Chameleon", "Mind Over Gravity", "Dominion") and I never cared much for their more industrial / metal side. This release sadly - again, for me - concentrates on this "harder" side, peaking with "Third Eye" which I simply can't stand - the screams, metallic clangy sounds, etc. just make my head hurt and I can't appreciate how the track dies in 2nd half in terms of energy (I could never understand those "arsy" types and their innovative arrangements ). On the other hand, the newer tracks - "Millenium Generation" in particular - strike a good (again, for me) balance in terms of my preferred mix of melodies and heaviness, even though I'd rather them trying some new sounds outside of the established UX palette... I really need to complement the "live" additions, because I can hear influence of Juno Reactor (or sometimes Nine Inch Nails?) in those atmospheric, dramatic chords that appear in intros or transitions - they add so much space and emotion! For example, "Pure Intellect" here is a much better version than the one on debut album. With those being live versions and all, I can understand some imperfections in mastering or sound quality and they're there - some tracks (the beautiful "Waking Up To Chaos", "Pure Intellect" or "Chrysalis") are crystal clear - despite their 'dirty' aesthetic - while others appear muddy, clouded ("Dominion", "Crossworld"). But the biggest disappointment is (awesome otherwise version of) "Master of The Universe" which is much quieter than the rest and gets too busy in places, losing a lot of clarity. As I explained numerous times, I listen to CDs in one go and this is simply distracting - the whole energy is just gone. But maybe I'm just hearing things All in all, if you can find it and have the money then by all means buy it - it's solid 3.5/5. Otherwise save up and track down a copy of original album (as a whole it's much, much better!) or download the "remaster" for free from Ektoplazm.

Hmm, not really care about tagging, because I have my own 'system' anyways. I like bandcamp because - unlike PsyRip in Psyshop and other similar solutions - you have your account, you build your collection, can leave feedback, get recommendations, cancheck out collections of other users with similar interests and so on. Also, I guess artists get much higher cut there, than through Psyshop or Beatspace (I mean at least for physical CDs, I don't care about digital-only).
