  1. Damn, I though it's a downtempo remix of Koxbox' "Dragon Tales" album...
  2. Wow, I liked it a lot, even though on the surface it sounds like full-on Juno Reactor Hope the plans to release it on CD come to fruition - I can even pay in advance if that helps
  3. Ordered on Bandcamp (+Toi Doi), sorry. One question though - how much should I pay on Bandcamp so that you get the same revenue? I prefer building my collection there, but can easily spend 2-3EUR more if that's what it takes (actually already paid 12EUR for each of the above).
  4. Weird. You "complain" about people buying your releases over at Bandcamp instead of in Suntrip's store... and then put the thing first for free on YouTube??? http://youtu.be/5ZCZRgghc7c?list=PLk82AnCYxUsiE9ZbD9pw4Y_5_TCZHZOGw
  5. You do that. Also, this one seems to be in similar vein: https://www.psynews.org/forums/topic/71683-shivattva-the-tales-of-harvia/ And once you're at it, check Procs' The lonely Land of Tada (examples: this, this, this)
  6. I'm afraid Kiriyama and Fragletrollet are two of the kind. Like you, I'd like to be proven wrong though Having said that, those I find similar in that they're a softer, lighter kind of dark-psy: Atriohm & Encephalopaticys - Ukalen (examples: this, this, this) GOW & Metaloids - Tits on Fire (examples: this, this) Para Halu - The World of Peace (examples: this, this, this)
  7. This so much! I still hope Anjuna Rec. follows up on their promise to release more of his material, maybe even an album. If not, maybe Draeke could help?
  8. You mean my post there? Indeed, this happens a lot - I like to share my quick impressions in Promotional threads, because I don't think they warrant a full review yet. Oh God, might I be the reason the reviews section is in decline?!?!?
  9. Maybe he's getting bald on the top of the head??
  10. Not quite - if there's only 1-2 good tracks, then I usually won't even buy the thing or will not listen to it. If on the other hand most of the tracks are good, then even those lesser ones "get better" over time - after all someone decided to put them together with all the other good tracks, so it's possible I might have missed something the first time around and this way I give it more chance. This is in particular the case for artist albums (80% of what I buy), where - in my belief - the artist usually has a story to tell and every track - good or bad - is an important piece of the whole. Also, please refrain from negatively commenting on "logic of some people on psynews", as if you are somehow better than them, if what they do doesn't match your way of doing things. I don't call you an ADHD-sufferer for not being able to concentrate on single album / compilation or question your logic, am I?
  11. 100% agree. Actually, I very rarely even listen to selected tracks - usually it's full albums or compilations, start to finish.
  12. Damn, that's an endless topic. My favorites: - mixing "they're" and "their" - writing "should / could of" instead of "should / could have" ...and that's just the tip of the iceberg. I had to learn the damn language, while most people making those mistakes are native speakers Edit: @Celaripo I see I "should of" read your reply first - I see we have more things in common than hating bad driving and mastering
  13. Well,Toi Doi and Denshi contain some very old material from those artists, so I don't consider them to be proper, contemporary releases. Mindsphere and Aurora Sidera are "the same" - floaty, dense goa. Morphic Resonance is - again - pretty similar to those, because the darkness is only achieved by using more distorted, acidy instruments - but style is the same. Sure, there's sufficient variety between the artists, which keeps me coming back for more, but let's not pretend Suntrip's catalogue is as eclectic as Blueroom's, Flying Rhino or TIP's was. I can' tell whether this is because out of the promos you receive you only pick that floaty goa, or maybe there's nothing else in there? But that's off-topic here.
  14. Technically, I never called Mars an asshole - I just said he sounds like one (when those topics come up). Also, it's not a very offensive word and perfectly describes someone, who behaves in a condescending, disregarding manner and from the position of power. Please try to understand that I (and most other people here) love your - Suntrip, DAT - music, have all the releases and will continue buying them and if we have some criticism we really think twice before posting and if we decide to do it anyway, we do that to make future releases better - that's the only tangible way we can contribute. Why else would we stick to this board, try to reinvigorate the discussions and reviews? Close the damn thing, if we can't have a discussion on a discussion forum.
  15. None, really... It's not environmentally friendly, it takes up space in your home, the d/l can be of higher quality (like 96khz/24bit), it's more expensive and time-consuming (packing & shipping), the way people are listening to music nowadays - as files - requires you to rip the CDs anyway... BUT, I was first buying music on tapes and later on on CDs and I remember I always cherished the moment of unwrapping the box, "smelling" the inlays, looking at the disc. I know it's irrational, but I can't really enjoy music I bought as digital d/l knowing, that there's physical version available. To the point I'll refuse to listen to some music that I won't / can't buy because of ridiculous pricing (e.g. some US labels charge almost twice the price of CD for shipping to Europe) or because it's no longer available and now costs 100EUR+ used (e.g. never heard "Accidental Occidentalism", "Hypnorhythm EP" or "Juggling Alchemists (...)" Yes, I know it's stupid. It's obviously not the case with releases available only as d/l, but I really avoid those, unless that's something I really, really want to have - I probably have less than 10 releases I bought digitally.
  16. Bad driving mostly, like: not using turn indicators, turning from wrong lane, skipping lanes to gain that 0.5s head-start at traffic lights, in general not minding other road users... Oh, and when a CD I like is poorly mastered
  17. Why you always sound like an asshole when this topic comes up? It's good that we had this discussion, because the quality of mastering can make or break a release, at least for those of us who have certain expectations resulting from knowledge in the topic. It shouldn't be that whenever someone criticizes the technical aspects - in a very polite and constructive manner, as above - we suddenly get condescending and angry response from artists (rarely) or label owners (much more common). And no, you don't have to be a qualified sound engineer to recognize if something works or not, because some artifacts are very obvious (e.g. Doof's re-issue last year) and more often that not the issue can be examined scientifically. Funny thing is, if someone does that the tune suddenly changes to "but you should enjoy and feel the music", "you're not supporting the scene!" and ..."but it's killer music!". Luckily Suntrip has been pretty faultless when it comes to mastering, even though an obvious bias towards higher end of the sound spectrum is pretty apparent (e.g. Celestial Intelligence's album was on the verge for me). This can be really unpleasant to those of us who listen mainly on headphones and not at parties. I personally prefer more "bassy" - as Mars put it - releases (recent examples: Psilocybian or Hypnocoustic albums), because they still sound very balanced when played quiet as well. With most music mastered with top-end as priority you can barely hear anything other than hi-hats and melodic lines when playing at low volume (or indeed - via poor speakers), while at high volume it gets tiring and exhausting very quickly. Just compare these two: And tell me which one is more balanced and more "pleasant" sonically at high volume? Still, very much looking forward to Morphic Resonance - samples sound very good - and will be buying it on day one (together with Toi Doi)!
  18. Oh, that's where you lost me - I found that album to be really, really good; probably, because I always liked patterns / sequences more than in-your-face melodies...
  19. The only thing I didn't like were the generic (samples of) drums in 1st track - coming off of Witcher 3 OST (which is similar 'vibe' of music, obviously not trance) the synthetic nature of those drums sticks out like a sore thumb. Other minor gripe is I'd prefer more original material instead of remixes, because Nav and Prav are simply stunning.
  20. Track list: 1. Constant Awareness 2. Rave Drugs 3. Almond Eyes 4. Quite A Trip (JaraLuca Remix) 5. Farther From Ordinary Reality 6. Almost Nothing 7. Quite A Trip 8. Farther From Ordinary Reality (Lunar Dawn Remix) Review: I had to look up Lectro Spektral Daze (short for "LSD" ) because the name wasn't familiar to me, while the beautiful - what looks like - hand-painted cover drew my attention. Turns out Danny Marshal already released two albums on Timewarp Rec. - a record label I've been frankly avoiding as it somehow associates in my mind with budget goa/psy releases, full of simplistic, cheaply-sounding music... The new album "Full Fractal Vision" was released instead by Neogoa as a free download, just 6 months after previous Timewarp full-lenght. The sound here is very old-school & vintage - even lo-fi at times - like a lot of Israeli artists in mid 90s or Boris Blenn's Jupiter8000 project, i.e. simple, clean but powerful, not "overly" produced or overloaded with numerous layers like it's fashionable nowadays - but varied enough. The production itself is however a touch muddy, especially the drums. The atmosphere is spacious, ethereal at times but musically it's lacking - no cringe worthy "melodies" or out-of-place chord changes, but no memorable ones either; just pretty simple riffs. For the most part it also sounds pretty flat musically, i.e. there's not much difference in energy levels between segments, no clear build-ups, wind-downs and climaxes; which isn't always a bad thing, but here it somehow sticks out as its defining factor. Stand out tracks are: "Almost Nothing", because it has this nice flow of soaring arpreggios contrasting with heavy drums and Lunar Dawn's remix to "Farther From Reality", where clearer production brings out a lot of details that couldn't be heard (or were not present?) in original version, resulting in more dynamic track. To sum up, it's an "almost there" release: sounds, ideas, arrangements, production if bumped up a notch could make this a very interesting album, but in the here & now, it's only mediocre - not offensive, but not very exciting either. 3/5
  21. Looks like the poll idea is catching up (thanks Richpa! ). Hope more of you will join me/us and make the review section more active and exciting again!
  22. I'm currently listening to LSD "Full Fractal Vision" in the loop, so expect review over the weekend. We'll see about the others...
  23. Damn, was hoping it will release sooner... Anyway, really looking forward to it - "Journey..." was one of the highlights of 2014
