  1. i started travelling and my final goal is to be in Goa, India. Anyone here has been there and could recommend places and stuff to do. I have no idea what can be found there nowadays, i hope i won't be disappointed even though i have no big expectations :/
  2. hi, i created this post because i need musical advice and also to read what other people think. this last 2 years i've been throwing parties with 2 friends of mine who also dj. they play progressive house so parties usually go from 120 to 123 in the first 5 hours to 140+ the last 2. at first it was mostly for our friends, and they are well aware that i play psy, so i don't feel pressured about mistakes or playing something too aggressive or complex for nonpsy listeners. the parties were totally free and they went from 10 people to 80 with almost no advertisement. this las time i did a downtempo set in order to achieve cohesion throuhgout the night. people were astonished about the party we threw totally free. some came to me telling me that i should charge for all that and that became evident the day after when i had to clean the entire house. so i decided to make a profit out of this and rented a place. a friend of mine works in illumination and is vjing and i already own the equipments and sound system.... the only thing i need now is more downtempo music! i went to the downtempo folder which is quite short and varied in styles and bpm and it was really difficult to get a set out of it so i had to look into IM and shpongle discography. used many tracks from them and a few from my folder in my last set so now . i saw a few friends of mine who knew the lyrics of what i was playing. i need something not so well known, trancey, preferably to warm progressive house but thats asking too much. bonus topic: in these parties i usually go last because of bpm progression but it happens that it goes from 124 to 140 in 5 minutes. there was one were i totally killed the little vibe that was in the room. and it is there, it is noticeable. people started to leave. i usually tell myself that i gotta 'trust in trance' and fuck the rest because. i have received positive feedback and some even started to go exclusively for my sets but sometimes i cannnot stop noticing some peoples terrified faces when they realize the whole set will be like that.
  3. nice it is difficult to pick just one. it depends. when someone is interested i give them some tracks that show how little are psy limitations and how wide its spectrum. for example, i wouldn't say that highlight tribe - free tibet (vini vici remix) (ORIGINAL MIX) is psytrance, though it shows my point very well. same as etnoscope - odin's kraft. if i think in of a more agressive psy the pick would be talpa - letter from vienna. it is simple, it screams for attention and, incredibly, it is easy to follow. so far we have full on, tribal trance/psy. some goa is needed of course. Jaia - Mai Mai is a really good choice. for a more complex goa i would say Kox Box - Life Is. to exemplify a more wicked psy it could be anything from Morphic Resonance, also The Misted Puppet bonus: a track that never seems to fail among non-psy public is ppk - resurrection. and i always put some hi-tech just to see their frightened faces it depends of course in how much interested the person is in all this, if it is just one track to satisfy curiosity something by Astrix or Infected
  4. as both of you said, sometimes i find perfect production for a completely formulaic artist. it makes me revalue the track because so much effort and knowledge can't be 'wasted' in such tracks, but most of the times is just that: unmemorable music. i found many excellent old goa tracks despite the lousy production. but i can recognize a good idea even if its underproduced. it stands out by itself. almost 400 tracks is a good number. the thing is that, in order to understand goa and psy, i did some kind of extensive listening (ignoring almost anything between 2005-2018) and the result is 400 tracks of the most varied nature, so mixing is quite complicated. sometimes this clash between cristal clear production and amateurish production makes mixes sound horrible so not only do i have to find tracks that match, but also tracks with similar key, bpm, and production quality which narrows the posibilities A LOT. OTHER THING: you know how a track can grow in you? how a track that you thought forgettable becomes better and better as you listen to it repetedly? well, that's another worry of mine. what if i missing a gem because of the '1-time-listen' caused by the infinite ammount of material available. i hate annoying samples, i hate repetitiveness that leads to nowhere. i hate banging psy just for the sake of banging. and most of nowadays psy sounds the same to me. i opened to other subgenres: goa is great but i would like to see someone succesfully bring goa to 2018 (no, neogoa is not the answer imo), darkpsy is not for me (yet?), same goes for hitech. nithzonot and nithzogoa gives me an awkward feeling. zenoneque is really cool but i grow tired rapidly. any other suggestiop is welcomed. thanks for the random ektoplazm advice. will do. Nowina is an excellent track. also loved owig weg - tromesa. more technoish but still awesome. one half of tromesa produced under the name of bigwigs. again, more technoish and kinda industrial (would love to find more industrial psy like this)
  5. i've been steadily listening psy for 3 years more or less and my music folder isn't really long. i have 394 "playable" tracks + 54 that i wont ever play but wanna have. it wouldn't be a problem if it was just for my amusent but i'm thinking of making this mroe seriously and the growing ratio of my folder is low. i don't know if my standards are too high after having my mind blown away so many times or if this is a common thing. sometimes happens that the track is a solid GOOD but something is missing there for me to download it. i listened to this some minutes ago and really couldn't decide if it was worth it. it is well produced, it is coherent, it is somehow pleasent but i lacks something (IMO) do you guys have a worthiness proof method or somthing? Thanks
  6. i'm from argentina and never heard of him. i'm listening to his "new universo" EP and it's really good. this thread shouln't die, what happened to this guy? progressive, groovy, always changing and still fresh https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JT6J5YgbFlw
  7. Also, i found this, its not old and the guy have just this release. how the hell that happens?
  8. i can't find it online but john 00 fleming - frisson (original mix). i heard it live for the first time and it melted my brain. so unnexpected.
  9. nice recommendation, i knew that album but forget about it. will relisten. Jaia produced mai mai which is one of my favourites goa tracks, and i think it also have that housey feeling with a psy touch though are you THE technossomy by any chance? good track, it filled the description smoothly. didn't know the artist so will be listening to it in the future. thanks
  10. i'm not looking specifically for old tracks, im looking for those which have that housey feeling. of course it is easier to find it in oldskool because the boundaries where not so marked then so it is easier to grasp the direct influences. i will post more as i remind said tracks.
  11. so i have a few oldskool tracks which give me a housey feeling, and an automatic dancing mood. i found some excellent tracks on platipus and i'm currently checking seismic records for some progressive trance with house sounds but this tracks seem rather hard to find. even more those which aged well and aren't the typicall 90's progressive trance. so i was hoping if you guys could recommend me some producers or labels related to this kind of sound. bonus points for psy influences but its not the priority. thanks in advance.
  12. thanks guys, the tracks were helpful and the gig came out perfect
  13. hey guys, i've got my first "gig" this saturday and i was looking for some good intro to set the proper mood. im looking for intros that are not too goa nor darkpsy. what would you recommend?
  14. that seems nice and quite usefull to give a personal touch. ya but for that to work shoulnd't my entire set up be pioneer? my mixer is allen&heath
  15. the big elders say that you become unstoppable when playing this track. if anyone know related artists please let me know
  16. hey man, thanks for replying. i have 2 cdjs and a 2 channel mixer. so, guy above is right, i was looking for some dj tools but im gonna do some research on this acces virus anyways.
  17. in a few days i'm going to the country next to mine, where tech stuff are a lot cheaper and i've been thinking of buying something that allowed me to give a more personal touch to my sets. what would you recommend? thanks in advance
  18. well, there is not much more to say. coould you guys recommend some quality books about trance in general? would very much like to read about the evolution of the different styles before reaching some sort of proto-trance/proto-goa is there any book like that?
  19. why no full on? there are some excellent full on tracks.
  20. the question about sound quality was just something that occurred to me but i dont want to start a hearing-war (?) i am more interested in what experienced dj's can advise me about mixing, though practice a lot seems to be the only important advice. thanks man, i'm feeling quite discouraged after my first mixing sessions. but i will endure the quest for my very own psysound
  21. finally, after a long wait, my brand new cdjs arrived and i spent the whole day mixing and having fun and some questions arised. i've been listening and downloading goa and psy and have my little and evergrowing collection. the only problem is that all the files i own are .mp3, whichh is not a problem in itself, but i know that mp3 have a much lower quality than .wav. so my question is, which is the most used method to carry music, because, even with a 32gb pen drive, you dont have much space if you use .wavs (and carrying two 1tb hard drive seems unpractical and expensive) another question: can the regular raver really differenciate quality sound btw mp3 and wav? does it really matter? another question: which is in your opinion the best way to complement a 2 cdjs + mixer eg: launchpad, effect machine (not english speaker and dk how it is called), etc. any mixingwise recommendation for someone whose first real encounter with mixing was yesterday? people here seems to be really experienced both in mixing and in psyknowledge so im all ears:D
