  1. exceptional stuff! as with the previous track, you've found the sweet spot in your music to make it supremely psychedelic while still maintaining the harmonies of a progressive style track. it fortunately doesn't venture anywhere near into the full on territory that's (pejoratively) meant for the masses but rather feels more suited to the personal journey. the only other psytrance artist off the top of my head that successfully creates at this intersection of genres is Ovnimoon, which is pretty high praise in my book. though i will say that listening to your 2 recent tracks back to back, there is a very similar squelching sound running through both. the melodies surrounding them are done well enough to make the tracks distinct, and they climax differently but if you compare the 2m:55s mark of Temple of Time and the 3m:05s mark of Over the Moon, and let them run for about 20 seconds each, there is some overlap. i don't know whether this is an intentional thematic choice, or the newer track is meant to be a remix, but i found it took away from some of the novelty. nevertheless, i can feel the ancient megalithic sacred vibrations coming off this track and am looking forward to hearing the next one!
  2. it's out! ...with a couple of bonus tracks to whet your appetite https://eatstatic.bandcamp.com/track/oneiroi https://eatstatic.bandcamp.com/track/shadow-locked-original-mix
  3. are you sure you aren't imagining things? there is absolutely nothing in psytrance that sounds anything remotely like what you are describing...
  4. noice.... so Nov 17 release....4 more weeks ! antic man, you need to give us a break here and drop this awesome information at maximum like a week before release, the waiting makes everything worse this is what they're working with apparently... i know what some of those things are, there appears to be a keyboard and some headphones i wonder what kind of BPM's we're going to be looking at with this release... Interchill doesn't do much straightforward psy, do they?... but based on the live set Eat Static played at Ozora, they're definitely still into getting people's rumps in a rumpus edit: just listened to some of the short samples on the site... seems like it's going to be closer to the 2nd cd of Dead Planet... mature, lush, midtempo, high vibration sounds for lounging rather than aggressively flailing about... then again the samples could just be intros to the build ups and offer little indication of the final product
  5. thanks for the heads up... unfortunately wasn't feeling it too much after one go around... the first 3 tracks are decent, especially the Ticon collab but then it falls apart... it's like a template for full on psytrance with no deviation or creative spark i respect the role Israel has played in shaping goa but their brand of psytrance has become too cheesy... i can pretty much pick out Israeli psytrance without even knowing that the artist is from there just based on the vibe... this album is rife with overused overblown flatulating glitch synths, generic build-ups and drops accompanied by a feeling of trying to appeal to drunk clubbers rather than a refined sound to hypnotize on a cerebral level... it's kind of ironically titled since it seems to be lacking any edge i saw that Infected Mushroom gave props to Freedom Fighters as "one of the best upcoming artists at the moment" which is almost a negative recommendation in my book i may be completely wrong and wouldn't be surprised if this makes it into the top of the psyshop charts but hey, it takes all kinds to make the world go round
  6. as someone that doesn't own a vinyl player, i think flipping over sides after a track is done playing would be way too much for me to handle while i'm shpongled out my brain
  7. i listened to it once and was impressed. it's so musically dense and exquisitely produced, and probably needs some time before the melodies start to sink in properly. psybient seems to fall into a few categories of either drone-ing into nothingness, slowed down psytrance aka chillgressive or blends of ethnic tribal influences... Derelicts is none of that, it's simply refreshing like a glass of water, no sugar or additional flavourings needed. i was a bit worried when it mentioned sampling dishwashers and the like but it has no abrasiveness whatsoever, it's pharmaceutical grade ethereal music with a tinge of melancholy.
  8. upper echelon stuff from suntrip as usual. i feel like finding psytrance that can truly scratch that itch is becoming more difficult these days, but this one hits the spot for sure. i'm curious what goes behind choosing to release an EP rather than a full length album? sure, some rock albums only clock in at 40 minutes but a few extra tracks and this could have been an album of the year contender. off topic.... but any news on the Triquetra album, Anoebis?
  9. just gave this a listen... wasn't expecting much since the last Timecode compilation, Chacaruna, wasn't my thing but this album is a pleasant surprise. Tickets definitely has a signature sound with a distinctly identifiable aesthetic that uniquely belongs to him. within every track is an element of unpredictability and it never sounds like he's cutting corners to fill air time, as each moment is filled with something of note. i'm usually not a fan of the victorian gothic, halloween haunted house, hans christian andersen on acid style of psytrance, which this album is filled with, but i can tolerate this. unfortunately there's a few artificial sounding strings and chintzy pianos and though i wish they weren't as prominent, they don't overwhelm the tracks too much. on the plus side there's a steady theme running through the duration of the album which not a lot of artists bother to do, so it feels cohesive. probably not an all time classic piece of work but for sure worth having a taste.
  10. says it's a Sept 15 release, just in case someone didn't bother to check the facebook page and needs to know
  11. damn these guys are the truth! just got around to listening... i loaded up the EP with their tracks from other compilations and soundcloud for about 3 hours of Triquetra madness might be one of the most promising artists in a while the percussion on their tracks is unreal. a lot of artists just loop drums in a perfunctory manner and build sounds around that but Triquetra adds these little touches on their basslines and drums that give it an animated tribal feeling. it shows a high level of care and attention to detail that carries over to the rest of the music as they build on the solid foundation of drums with waves of blistering, in your face psychedelia very much looking forward to their debut album on Suntrip... hopefully it will be all new output so we can see how these artists are evolving
  12. great review. 7/10 is probably what i'd give it as well. the whole feel of this album is scattershot. by including tracks from a wide spectrum of styles, it has something for everyone but at the same time, it's unlikely that someone will be able to enjoy every track. it might have come across better if the album was sequenced as one uptempo/goa cd and the other more midtempo. conversely, i feel like there is enough material here to make one amazing album. though there is definitely some really good music, it isn't pushing the boundaries of the art so much. there isn't much of an evolution in the sounds but rather just iterations of what we have enjoyed, sort of a "if it ain't broke, don't fix it attitude." it's like a celebration of nostalgia and psychedelic history instead of the writing of a new chapter. that might be because some of the tracks were made many years ago, as well as the contributing artists are all well established veterans. the overall atmosphere of the album is easily digestible and it's gentle enough to work well as background music, but it doesn't have enough complexity for focused listening. my feelings might change after a few more rotations but to really get the most of this album i will probably delete a few of the tracks for a more consistent experience.
  13. i'm not sure how the progressive part takes root in this (is it the lower BPM? the drums used? the precise addition of layers?) but this is hella refreshing! very impressive... would fit nicely on any dj mix clean sounding, nice pace and exquisite melodies that build up the energy superbly looking forward to more of your art... hopefully available away from soundcloud's compression algorithms... what DAW did you use to make this?
  14. awesome review as always. many thanks. my sentiments are similar to yours... that there isn't much going on here. i had high hopes as well since if someone is naming an album after the legendary Sand and Scully Orange Sunshine, i would expect a certain amount of precision and godly vibes... but no such luck here. there seems to be a number of artists that fill their tracks with these small skittering sound effects in an attempt to create psychedelia but then neglect to include any melody whatsoever. as such, this Gido album is like having a bunch of condiments but no food to eat. of course, some artists go off into the complete opposite direction and have nothing but melody and then it becomes a part of the mainstream trance monstrosity. ultimately the best artists use those small effects to compliment the melody and build to the climax rather than make it the main focus. i think that's why Orange Sunshine feels like one long track, there is nothing distinct about any of the tracks, it's just digital screeching set to drums for an hour. there might be something of merit here but i only have two ears and one brain to process all the music out there, so why bother with something sub-par.
  15. many thanks to neogoa records and the contributing artists for keeping the vibe alive with this awesome free release! massive appreciation for the FLAC version available as well. i'm curious what people think of the mastering on this compilation? some of the previous neogoa releases were mixed in a sharper more aggressive manner that sometimes when removing my headphones my ears would be ringing, but this one seems to be very gently mastered to maintain a good dynamic range throughout. this makes it easier for extended listening, but the bass doesn't quite have as much power or punchiness. though i'm sure there are some people who want to listen as pure and neutral of an experience of possible, future listens may require some EQ tweaking on my part to bring out more of the lows to get into that hypnotic level trance. then again, i'm not sure if this is due to the mastering, or the artists choosing to move towards a more analog sounding, old school aesthetic. overall, this is some complex, high quality stuff that merits having a session with while enhanced.
  16. so... noticed there was a post on facebook regarding this release "Neogoa Records: Festival kept us busy with great music so we couldnt release it on the planned date. It will pop up soon, don't worry :)" can't say i'm surprised... i'd be fully immersed in the festival as much as humanly possible if i was there too then again, as a graduate of the University Of Setting The Bar Low, i think it wise to underpromise and overdeliver...
  17. really looking forward to this... glad i only found out about it today, that makes the anticipation easier to tolerate BGF 2017 looks nuts... it seems like there will be more artists attending than party goers hopefully some of the live sets make their way to soundcloud at some point
  18. wasn't there already a remastered reissue of IFO in 2015? this is just the vinyl version i take it... same mastering?
  19. just finished my first listen through, and for what it's worth, i enjoyed it any time an artist takes 5 years off, i worry that they might have lost touch with what made them good in the first place but this isn't the case here. this is creatively made psychedelia from 2 guys that are well versed in their craft. the album sounds something like if goa from the 90s made a linear progression to today, rather than veered into the faster, more chaotic neo-goa sound. i'm not a fan of guitars in psytrance, so there's a couple of tracks that aren't too enjoyable but all in all, there's some great sequences and it's a melodic ride awesomely mastered by COLIN OOOD.
  20. how about Ovnimoon's newest album Voyage? there's something really unique about Ovnimoon's music... it's difficult to classify into one of psytrance's subgenres... it's just good hypnotic music
  21. i used to get them in Shibuya from this basement store with a giant mushroom painted on the outside... i think it was like 3 grams for about 2000 yen. sometimes guys with suitcases full of chemicals laid open on a table in the middle of the street would show up but i didn't know about the wonders of DMT at that age... big psy party next weekend at Ageha... http://www.trancelife.net/img/event/flyer/2924_0.jpg
  22. I find with the psytrance that I enjoy, it grabs me immediately. There is something about where I just get picked up by the groove and no matter what my mood, it will take me along for a ride. Other albums, I might have to give multiple listens to try and find what there is to appreciate about it. These albums don't often reach the level of the albums that are effortlessly enjoyable. For me, this album is more the latter. As a fan of the Pleiadians, I was looking forward to hearing a modern take but I now realize this sound of the Pleiadians is a zeitgeist of the 90s, forged with a particular suitable technology and a vital precursor to the way Goa has evolved. Therefore, the concept of the album is like trying to catch lightning in a bottle. It might be more of an exercise in technical proficiency than an expression of art. Taken from that perspective, it's fun to compare the originals with the remixes side by side, section by section. When I do this, I can appreciate better what Morphic Resonance has attempted, but I also prefer the originals much more. The originals are warm, powerful but smooth, the remixes are cold, aggressive and raw. There are a few sparks of interesting effects in these remixes. The modernization gives it a speedier, heavymetal-esque kind of touch and it might appeal to fans of Morphic Resonance's last album City of Moons, which was really well received on this site. Unfortunately, I wasn't into it as much. All in all, the challenge undertaken to create Trip to the Stars was massive and I have to respect that. It is a difficult proposition to win. Simply recreating the originals would just make people want to go and listen to the originals, while altering the core of the tracks too much might turn off people who enjoyed the originals. Morphic Resonance found a healthy balance between the two. Were you listening on headphones or speakers? Listening on headphones the tracks gave me a sense of what you're describing. From my non-producer ears, there isn't much width or layering. It all feels kind of clustered together. It seems to breathe better on speakers though. Tweaking equalizers (moreso than normal) on my end is a must to bring out this album finer points. BTW.. First Encounter is awesome!
  23. to optimally experience the full spectrum of sounds upon the acquisition of this extended play, i've placed two of my finest q-tips in a 22k gold cigarette case primed to clean out my earwax
