Hmm, that's a good point.. I guess it appears like a worse deal than most DAW's since it's basically the same price as Ableton but you only have to pay Ableton once, but yeah I can see it being a nice way to keep the updates high quality. And it's a bit tricky comparing since Bitwig is new in the game. A more honest statement would probably be that 350 euros is too much for me regardless of what I would spend it on lol -

I'm still working with some old 1.3something xD Found a script for 1.3 on the bitwig forum, soo I'll simply have to see how it works out... I consider buying Bitwig 2 though, just gotta save some moneyyyy (or just wait for a crack..... it's really expensive considering you just get the updates for a year). But yeah I'll message you once I get the keyboard -
No mentions of Krumelur yet??? Truly masterful shroom-prog

Yeah truly a tough one >.< I settled for the Arturia even though the script issues you talked about, mostly because of the extra knobs and them being encoders. It will arrive in one week, can't wait Thanks for your advices! -
Ohhhh yes finally there's some darker psy being posted in this forum! xD Your bassline is really nice, rolls really smooth! In some parts I feel that the bass could be a bit louder or more bassy though, but this is kinda up to personal preference, once it gets fatter it's a pleasure to hear. The amotspheric fx are cool and the voices are super creepy (in a good way as long as you're not on too much acid... B) ) I sometimes feel the lack of leads but I'm not gonna sit here and tell you to add FM-leads because yeah we've heard that before.... But I think the track would benefit from having some more distinct, rhythmical leads of any kind. The part that starts @03:10 is sooo thick and nice, love the atmosphere. Good job overall!!

Oooh! I like seeing a few darker tracks pop up in the feedback section There's not much goa released these days that excites me but I really really enjoyed this! Love the menacing, almost - as the wonderful name implies - lovecraftian vibe and dark soundscape, and even though the low-mid activity Antic talked about might make the mix a bit less clear I welcome it with a big smile Reminds me of BOTFB's stuff!! I can feel the black, sprawling tentacles reaching down from the night sky, bringing madness and chaos to humanity.... excellent track!!

Wow, power! Starts off nice groove which utilizes tempo perfectly, the progression is thought trough and I like how you put in some fun breaks. Some of the rhythmic effects might have a bit too much low-frequencies conflicting the kick+bass. The part break at 04:06 is really nice, and delivers us further into the track in a really nice way. Really nice building and the ramp-down of sounds at 06:40-ish is sweet, though it could have started rising for 4 more minutes after that IMO All in all very well made track with interesting features and sounds, enjoyable progression and the production is overall pretty good though I - very personally - prefer the kick just a biiit lower Not 100% sure why but it gives me a similar vibe that I get from some techno, massive, monumental, slightly melancholic and "architectural" - as those hip technokids like to call it. Good job!

Hey people! After my thread about finding inspiration I was linked this thread, I'm currently thinking about buying the Arturia Minilab MK2 or the Akai mpk mini mk2. Anyone got experience with any of them? Heard both good and bad about both... I like how the minilab has 16 knobs but the pads seems nicer on the MPK, and I like the idea of an arpeggiator. -
Doors to creativity?

Ah, yes this may be the case with the joystick! I'll have to look into it. Seems like I'll have to give clips another shot once I get back to bitwig Right now I'm working 90% in renoise, but it was a few years since I used a tracker on a computer (most music I've made is on LSDJ) now so it takes some time to get into. EDIT: posted a question about arturia minilab vs AKAI MPK mini in the midi-controller thread, have a hard time deciding between them- 6 replies

Doors to creativity?
Hasheeshian replied to Hasheeshian's topic in Music Making and Production/Industry
Thanks for the answer! I use bitwig and renoise mostly. But I have serious problems getting into the world of clips and instead use the "arrange-mode", or what one would call it, most of the time. It feels a bit more natural for me, perhaps since I've mostly used tracker based software in the past. So I might start off with a MIDI-keyboard to begin with, I've always loved playing melodies and arps on keys and even though my technical skills is a bit limited I do have some knowledge in musical theory.. If I can sell off my wardrobe as planned I'll probably save the money for more musical toys Just like you said in your post I was initially leaning towards the Code-25, but after some research and comparing the 25-key midi-keyboards available I think the Akai MPK mini MK2 would be the best choice for me. It has enough knobs and pads and the X/Y joystick is a really cool bonus, for ie cutoff and resonance on bandpassed leads, or to tweak a arpeggiated melodies into more chaotic realms... And thanks for the feedback on my music! I find myself creating things barely realising how it happens haha, but yeah creativity usually comes and goes in phases, hopefully some knobs and buttons will give me a little push Also, if I remember correctly you too has been fooling around with trackers for some time? I got my hands on a copy of Renoise a while ago and must admit it's really fun, and the potential seems huuuuge. lots of nice built in effects and wonderful workflow- 6 replies

Thanks for the tip! This sounds like a pretty good idea to get a more integrated workflow... The one you posted a picture of seems pretty nice and is at a quite nice price (both the 25-key and 49-key version, probably don't need more keys than 25 but the extra sliders and nobs look fun), my friend works in a music store so might be able to get a few bucks off the price too I'll talk to some knowledgeable friends and research further into this!- 6 replies

So, after a long summer and spring I've finally settled down and got my computer up with acceptable monitors, soundcard etc.... But every time i open up my DAW I feel like I'm falling into old habits of just making a boring (generic) bass+kick and then trying to add weird leads and sounds on top; this never gets me creative or excited. Especially since I don't even have a MIDI controller. I feel that I lack the fun part of the production when working with just plugins and such. Everytime I sit down with a piece of hardware (i.e. in a music store or at a friends place) I start to experiment and jam and I feel that this is what I need, a "natural" way in to the sounds and music, based on experiments and joy rather than trying to manufacture these things. But - since I don't really have that money to spare for hardware synths I'm looking looking for other methods of finding inspiration and creativity in my production. Do any of you got any advice? Alternatively, if I were to spend the small amounts of cash I can on a piece of hardware, what would be a good thing to start with? I really love jamming and making more unusual sounds.

It's okay to post psydub/chillout here I suppose? Here's my latest piece of stuff, glittering bright psy-dub, all kinds of feedback is appreciated

All fx and leads except the gated pad is korg monotron original and delay (with a shitload of delays)
-
Yeah risers are hard >.< I mostly just reverse cymbals lol.... Looking forward to hearing more from you Cheers!
-
Sweet! The mix sounds nice and clean - but I'm listening through my normal (big) speakers and not monitors so I don't have a perfect ear here. but there's alot of really nice and juicy sounds in there. The track could IMO use some crashes and/or risers to enhance the dynamics, but you got a great sound going on!

Flumt skum i skogen (Darkpsy/Forest)
Hasheeshian replied to Hasheeshian's topic in Free Music Promotion
Thank you mate! More will come as soon as I get my stuff out on the countryside where I will live this autumn! Thanks! I wanted to bring in some extra punch and I've always been a sucker for kick- and bass switches Yeah I realised the volume was too low after uploading it (in the middle of the night) , I had turned the master down a few decibels and forgot to change back before bouncing haha... And it certainly needs some refinement, but the basic ideas are there ^^- 3 replies

Huh, this was quite a unique piece! Some of the harmonies felt very unconvectional, but as a fellow lover of weird trance I dig it I checked out some of your other songs on the channel to get some more perspective and there's certainly some interesting music there! Enjoyed Pine forest alot

Great production and really good energy! I don't listen to progressive very much, but I found this pretty interesting Good job!

A dark thing that quickly turned into a light thing Goa-ish. Mixing feedback is especially appreciated! I try to stay away from a too clean sound but feel there's a lot of room for improvement in my mixing.

SOOO I've been putting a lot of fun ideas into my computer lately, so here's a collection of small songs I've written during the last months but never got around to share - many were simply forgotten I know most songs are a bit low volume wise, I'm too lazy (read stoned) to fix that kind of stuff before bouncing This is a early version of something that became a later song, but I really like this version. Think I lost the project file.... Inspired by the early swedish forest trance. https://soundcloud.com/hasheeshian1/forest
