You need to reset your soundcard from the VST Audiobay... if this doesn't fix the problem raise the latency and see if the glitches disappear. Are you using the latest drivers?

It doesn't stop. Ever. To me the 'lanes' can also be though of as aspects of the sound, each aspect being mainly located in an approximately-defined area within the spectrum of each sound. So a pad's 'muddiness' resides between 250 and 400Hz, a kickdrum's 'weight' between 80-120Hz, and a vocal's 'air' above about 10KHz. You can reduce the muddiness of a pad by cutting (with an appropriately wide Q) around 300Hz... and so on. There are many lists of this kind around the net, but the terminology is fairly subjective and I'd recommend taking a few of them and combining them into your own little map of sounds. -

It was the use of the phrases "unique frequency range" and "every sound should have its own slot in the frequency spectrum" (which have a very specific meaning to me) that got me going The thing about being a geek is that you need to use exact terminology when communicating with other geeks Otto - the way I see it, each sound has its own multiple 'lanes', the volumes of which can be adjusted with EQ. -

I strongly disagree with this. The frequency ranges of many instruments overlap and to make them all occupy 'a unique frequency range' would result in a very wierd sounding mix. If you think of EQ in terms of separate volume controls for different areas of a sound's frequency range then the idea of 'balance' between different aspects of different sounds becomes a very useful tool for getting a good mix. Don't forget that in times gone by the job of the final mix was often done by the 'balancing engineer'. -
Sorry but no. The difference between ANY compressed and uncompressed format is blatantly obvious when viewed with a spectrum analyser. MP3s all have everything above a certain point cut off, the exact point and nature of the audio above the cutoff point being determined by the encoder and bitrate. The only way a blind test can tell us anything is if it takes place under controlled conditions.

Jason @ Tribe of Frog, owner of PsyTunes, has rearranged the site, and the guys' mixes are now all in their own folders: Mixes by Rama OOOD Mixes by Steve OOOD Mixes by Ryo OOOD Rama's Morning Break mix has been reuploaded, accompanied by new mixes Squishy Phish and Breaktime. I could swear I uploaded Cruise Control by Ryo but I can't see it in the list anywhere. Oh well.

Ryo (our drummer) is moving to Japan in August for at least a year, to become global sales manager for Dileka. We'll be very sad indeed to see him go but wish him all the best of luck... and it means that we might well be playing in Japan in 2008, depending on what can be organised!

Thanks everyone for all your comments... makes our little adventure seem all the more worthwhile. It turned out alright hey Not surprising IMO; Ott did all the production, arrangement and engineering on that track, and wrote all the percussion as well as the main vocal melody and subsequent glitchy loveliness; I just sat in his studio for a weekend and fed him basslines and pads and 303 riffs and wierd noises etc, and he took it all away and made a thing of glory out of it. His next album should be interesting!

Tribe of Frog put on some of the best parties out there, from both an artist's point of view (I/we have played for them more times in more guises than I can count since 2000) and from a punter's point of view. Their hearts are most certainly in the right place, and Jason is a man of rare vision. I'm so lucky I live in Bristol. 20thday in NYC are very cool people indeed to work/party with too. Hi Lauryn! Just had a potentially disastrous yet ultimately awesome experience working with the Neutronyx crew in Ireland, too... when the dominos started falling they just smiled and sorted shit out. Respect. Vortex in SA - if you get a chance, either as an artist or partygoer, do it. Glade Festival - amazingly professional and well-organised crew, putting on a phenomenal event in the face of extreme adversity. Very much looking forward to working with them again this year. I still have to sample the delights of working/partying with promoters from many countries though so if you're putting on parties in eg. Australia, Russia or Brazil/South America, please get in touch and get yourself added to this list!

The NM1 is 4-part multitimbral; the NM2 I think is more capable but not enough for a whole track. If you're going to record parts as WAV you'll need a good A/D converter; otherwise MIDI is very light indeed on CPU. Yes. You control the modules using CC messages which are assigned separately with each patch; as long as FL can work with CCs you can do what you need. The NM2's displays show you what parameter each knob is assigned to. If this is important to you then I'd suggest buying the keyboard. The rack version can be controlled by MIDI just as well as the keyboard version. The new one has new modules the old one doesn't, including various FX like reverb and proper delay. However there are a few things that the NM1 will do that the NM2 won't, and many people who own both prefer the sound of the NM1. XPO - no intro? Good melodic ideas, nice kick. Distortion on mix = bad. Hihats need more highs. Needs better arrangement. Good improvement though

This might be interesting for you then... Live 6 Session View: grab the horizontal dividing line just above the faders and drag it upwards. Then, with audio tracks, if they are at their minimum width, make them wider. -
Great stuff again Billy I think I recognise some of the references. Love the egg one! And... you may not be responsible but I'm still sueing. Got to say though, I think your vocals were better on the first one but I totally understand you don't want to spend hours perfecting each snippet.
