Solar Fields – Movements - (2009) I have been listening a lot to Solar fields lately and I didn't manage to check all their releases. They are at 12 IRRC, so that's an effort. But movements is still my best Solar fields experience. This is the only album where each track has it's individual melody pattern, and each track has it's own story within the concept of Solar fields. It's so variated and inspiring all the time. I love this album, it's creativity, originality and simplicity astonish me over and over. You don't have be a huge solar fields fan to enjoy this album cause imo this is just good psy ambient. A recommendation for all ambient fans and people who love to listen to psychedelic music. I was hoping this would be the trend for their further albums but sadly enough I have been discovering that's not the case. But still I'm glad this album is released and maybe a new one like this will come around. I can't wait... Discogs: http://www.discogs.c...nts/master/3513

Solar Fields - Altered - Second Movements - (2010) I was hoping to get some more after movements released in 2009. I've recognized tunes from movements but the tracks are indeed different. So like mentioned above this is more a rmx album and I still prefer the original tracks. It's to my experience not an gain if you have the other albums imo. They didn't put much effort in changing the tracks and mixing?? I don't know.... But still, it's a psychedelic journey as each solar fields album so I did enjoy it. My expectations were a bit to high I guess... Also the recording volume is bit lower compared to other albums, maybe because it's a mixed cd, I don't know. But it's noticeable.... The same old Electric universe fullon sound that didn't change since 2004 (almost 9 years ago) combined with a dub step pattern in the baseline. Very cheap imo...

Solar Fields - Until we meet the sky (Ultimae, 2011)
Sideffect... replied to IronSun's topic in 2011
Solar Fields - Until we meet the sky - (2011) A bit disappointing for my taste. Solar fields has proved in it's earlier work to be more creative and this album hasn't that much. There not much inspiration and it takes too long before there is some action (I think track 6 IIRC). And even when the action starts is still mediocre. Then again is still solar fields I love the their concept so I enjoyed it but I don't think I'll pik this album again If I'm in a solar fields mood. There is enough choice... -

Electric universe - one love (1995) As a first electric universe this directly hits the top. The first track also named 'one love' is an euphoric experience. The rest of the album is a recommendation for morning trance lovers who like a 303 pattern once and while. You can hear the first crystal clear melodies which boris will use later more in his side ambient project "galaxy" starting in 1998, 2004 etc... I always start with track 2 and end with 'one love'. I prefer the track at the end of the album, but that's my taste and choice Discogs: http://www.discogs.com/Electric-Universe-One-Love/master/988

Reefer decree - Sound frames (2001) This album is still in my top 5 of best progressive releases. There is one thing that makes reefer decree unique and that his base/kick. Motivated and even somehow happy. This album keeps me busy all the time. The "horn" sound they use to pause and carry on with the baseline is revealing. They always use many psychedelic sounds and tiny melodies. It's not warm progressive but strong, tuff and variated. Discogs: http://www.discogs.com/Reefer-Decree-Sound-Frames/master/45232

My thoughts exactly , serious: I've listened to this album again yesterday and I've still got the same feeling. It's less variated then his debut album but I'm glad there is still progressive like this around, more of that please!

Atmos - 2nd Brigade (2004) This is Atmos as we know it. To my experience it's like "headcleaner" his debut album from 2001 but with more warm, more emotional melodies, and a less softer baselines . All is still very gentle and the approach is still minimal. I'm a fan off Atmos so I'm glad he stays with his formula. Why change if it's good. People who like Atmos will defenitaly like this album. But it's 2004 and progressive is starting to evolve in a different and often a more melodic way. So that's not what you can expect. Conclusion, highly recommended for Atmos fans. This is to experimental for my taste. The baseline isn't inspiring enough, and it becomes dull after a while. Maybe I've expected to much because of 'headcleaner'. The album is different and original that's true. The collaboration didn't work for me. "Klein aber doctor" is an amazing track. The pure essence of progressive.

It's funny read to debate back when it was released (good old psynews) and it seems my opinion hasn't changed after all this years. Jaïa - Fiction (2005) This is a masterpiece. Jaïa has already proved his talent back in the 90's and he does it again. This time he is using progressive instead of goatrance to produce what doesn't surprise me. He always liked a minimal approach so I can imagine this french artist enjoyed created this album. This is not uptempo progressive that's aspiring to be strong and hard. It's a very smooth and gentle way of revealing progressive in an original form. Already from the beginning you can notice that Jaïa hasn't lost his talent. He still uses many influences, I hear nature elements, storms, rain falling, Indians speaking, tribals etc. Even effects like clocks ticking and short pauses with violins make this concept album highly recommended. The baselines has a soft beat and at the end Jaïa switches one time to a fullon pattern very slow. With the result that this is a variated album and perfect for home listening. If you hear very closely you can sometimes recognize the typical Jaïa melodies (choice of sounds) in the background from 1998 what is super off course! It seems that I changed my mind after 7 years, This album grew on me and that's good (or how it should be). Shpongle – Nothing Lasts... But Nothing Is Lost (2005) This shpongle took me some time to appreciate. The first album is still unbeatable but this one comes pretty close. After his debut Sphongle decided to use a lot of samples and world music influences. Sometimes that was to much for me. In this releases he doesn't use to much world music samples and gets back to the more original sphongle sound. What off course has changed since 1998 (better of not?). But I like it. It's a good ambient journey with variated patterns and not overloaded compared to other shpongle releases with are sometimes a bit over the top and imo not relaxing at all considering into the ambient perspective. http://www.discogs.c...ost/master/7831

Beat Bizarre – Lewd (2001) A very strong release. And when I mean strong, I mean it literally. This is straight forward progressive all the time. A decent level of psychedelic. Nothing happy or fluffy but meant to bounce on the dance floor. Grumpy sounds crawling on a baseline that motivates me from the beginning to end. http://www.discogs.c...wd/master/45236

Auricular – Audion (2001) This is dark. I know it is progressive but this release has always been a very dark experience to me. The atmosphere is unique within progressive. Creepy sounds, wondering around in a cave. The detail that Auricular is working with is well put and creates a high level of psychedelic. Little tiny sounds in one squeaky harmony that creates brain activity from the beginning until the end. His baseline is imo superior. The way he switches from fast to slower. Changes his kicks and uses different patterns all the time makes this releases variated at a good level. I can't get enough of this! http://www.discogs.c...on/master/44455
