Do you feel goa/psy can compare with classical music?
Bahamut replied to karan129's topic in General Psytrance
By what criteria do you want to compare these totally different types of music? -

No, not by a long shot. And really, if you think like that you should listen to more music. -
Maybe this track that somebody posted here some time ago: VNV Nation - Forsaken Or the totally awesome Paul Ellis - Shining. This is closer to 'beatless trance' than to 'beatless ambient'.

Anyone else likes Armin Van Buuren's latest single?
Bahamut replied to Lemmiwinks's topic in General Psytrance
Armin Van Buuren has made some pretty cool cheese tracks over the years. Even a nice oldie like Blue Fear. But I don't really like this one, there was definately potential for something better. -

Steve Roach - Fires Burning I could listen to this track for hours on end. You know, every ambient bedroom-artist can create some decent atmospheric music, with some synthpads, basslines, ethnic samples and premade drumloops... Add just a little creativity and talent to it and you're basicly at the level of most Psybient and such. But the difference between that and the incredible sound art of Steve Roach is almost immeasurable. -
Global Communication - 9:39 Pure bliss.
-
John Williams - Theme from Jurassic Park I dunno why, but I'd say the perfect place to listen to this would be on an isolated, exotic island where dinosaurs live! :drama:
-
Joe Hisaishi - The Legend Of Ashitaka damn what a lovely melody :drama:

Can we a favorites forum in the general forum?
Bahamut replied to Jon Cocco's topic in General Psytrance
Good idea. There's only a slight problem. My favorites are facts, while everybody else's are just opinions. So once I have posted my favorites, there is no point in continuing these threads. -

Steve Roach - Harmonia Mundi 45 minutes hypnotic sequencer trance from the early 1980s. Wooooohooooooo completely my thing, I love it! -
I just realized the Off Topic section of this forum is actually the only place on the net where I sometimes 'hang out' to talk about things that are NOT about music. So in that way I'm going to miss it a little bit.

Joe Hisaishi - Princess Mononoke: Symphonic Suite - The Legend Of Ashitaka Really nice music. :drama: (I'm not into anime or anything) -
Of all electronic music: Michael Stearns - Planetary Unfolding

Scriabin - Etude Op. 8 No. 12 In a room with great accoustics, behind a grand piano, playing this myself, feeling like a god.

Super Nintendo: Secret of Mana - Spirit of the Night Vangelis - Memories of Green

here's the best version I could find on youtube, just ignore the vid Beethoven - Symphony No. 7 Part 2 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LdfNTO_o-3k Rachmaninov - Our Father http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IiSiRAZRCVA Russian church choir music. Such music is almost depressive by nature, but extremely beautiful. This is actually one of my favorite pieces of music ever. John Williams - Schindler's List Theme Howard Shore - LOTR:The Two Towers - Gollum's Song Dark Ambient: Raison D'etre - The Well of Sadness Raison D'etre - In Emptiness

1. Mozart - Requiem - Lacrimosa.

Dont know about this one but some of (earlier) ISOS stuff is quite nice. I don't like most 'eurotrance' just as I don't like most psy. However I really enjoy some of it... Regular club/trance/progressive creates different moods and emotions that I sometimes prefer over psy.
