I like the cover. Goes back to the good ol' days of Orichalcum & The Deviant, UX and the likes, where not everything with the 'goa' ticket on it had to look like Marusha's T-shirt.

First time I hear that I always felt like it was the other way around. Anyways, maybe I still haven't ran into a blind alley at Beatport, to put it that way. Even though I have an account at both, I must admit I've been a happier buyer at Beatport. But Junodownload has some nice items as well. Don't know anything about any d'n'b though Word. My only goal is to hear as much music as possible in the best availabe quality, without harming the artists' credibility, hard work and so on... Collecting plastic doesn't really strike me as much as it used to. Good music doesn't need a particular medium to sound good - it only needs to sound good, be it digital format or marble colored vinyl...

While searching for some new techno tunes over at Beatport, I saw that they have in stock some old school favorites such as X-Dream's "Trip to tranceslyvania", "Radio", "Irritant", both of The Delta's albums, then "I.F.O." and "Family of light" by Pleiadians, plus the entire Koxbox opus on Blue Room Released (2 albums + those 4 CD Maxis)... Personally, I think it's a great move to make some of those gems available in full quality sound. Even the prices are not over blown. Honestly, I think I've already heard all the goa I ever wanted to, but hell, no one is going to stop me from purchasing the Children Of The Last Generation EP in WAV format. Imma give my 12" a well earned retirement. What do y'all think? If you actually think about these trivial aspects of human existence?

What music are you listening to right now?
rino replied to Sputum Rotgut's topic in General Psytrance
Is this the Anticon crew Slug? If yes, I've long lost touch with their output. Last I heard was The Woman With The Tattooed Hands and Sage Francis' "Private diaries" (or someting similar). Is this any good? -

Oh, so rude and acting unpolite behind the monitor... That is a no-no! Don't try to turn one's ignorance into another man's disatvantage. If you knew me, and knew my musical tastes and how broad they are, you wouldn't venture further into a glorious misstep of trying to make me look like I was misguided. I do not fall into the modern traps of internet misdemeanors. Virtual quarrels are not to any of my interest. I have seen the light. Despite of that, I risk getting unplugged. Unpayed bills and all, ya know? I shall part with you in peace and hope we meet one day on the path sparkled with the stars' effulgence.

X-102 is even better; way more spaced out, cerebral and ahead of just about anything released in 1992. "Deep Space" was recorded under the supervision of Maurizio; it's very subtle, slick and sublimely produced. Pure Detroit soul. Not as old school as "Classics", but that's clearly not the intention... -

A-god-damn-mazing! One of the best yet, maybe equalled only by his "Deep Space" album... Personally, I'm stuck on X-102 - Mimas -

http://www.psynews.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=54129 ^^An Apparat appreciation topic was already made by our dear Pavel quite some time ago, but as you may kindly observe, not too many eyebrows have been raised. I concur with the rest, nothing special. The golden era of what I consider IDM, is, unofrtunately, long time gone. Whether you agree or not, I will leave up to you and your own perception of intelligent electronic music. Then again, stuff like this does not really reside up my alley, so my judgement might be a path not to follow. Go in peace...

I added two more old Technossomy vinyls... You can have all 6 for 100 euro. Though you'd have to be a vinyl junkie first, to be interested in such a purchase :posford:

I just wanted to share my opinion on this release. I usually avoid playing anything labelled as 'regular', 'dream' or 'uplifting' trance, but the Paragliders debut EP is not only an exception to the rule, it raised the bar so high I don't think I've ever heard anybody reach those standards again! It is about as simple as music gets, but that's the key! I don't know a single artist who could modulate leads (OK, Martin Freeland aside) and mould them as Lieb does on A1 around the 03:20 mark; he retracts all percussion, leaves the background effects all in tact, brings in the piano loop in, giving it a more acidic touch a few dozen seconds later. Genius! The melody absolutely dominates the track from there on, with no preposterous epic sounds and attempts to get the crowd screaming, hands high up in the air. I guess you can say this is trance, or at least what I always wanted it to sound like... Imitated more times than Nasa's experts can count, but equalled never. The A2 track, Baghdad, does not strike me as much, with a more typical approach to music, with fast drum rolls chasing a hypnotic lead for six minutes. Not bad, just not as impressive as the title track or its flip side, blue sky mix. Speaking of which, I find it great. Mainly because it maintains the original's core elements, but pulled through 12 minutes of music. The piano lead is all over, the secondary melodies, but the kick is somewhat harder, or I'm deaf. Or possibly both. There's a huge breakdown some four minutes into the track, where new elements are introduced, only to really get back on track and start sounding like the A side some three minutes later. Overall: a must have release for all those who claim to be melody suckers, but even if you like brain drilling acoustic artillery, you might want to check the flip side to the coin, you know?

Thug psy. Hoe slapping hippie gangztaz tossin' up their KFC meals 6 feet up in the air. Cadillac laced pimpz flossin' thick gold chains with platinum shiva symbols hanging down their hairy and unwashed chest. The disintegration of our faith and art. Cash rules everythang around us. Shootin' rounds up for the hood. The Parvati click takes Suntrip to war. "I be walking through the pearly gates with an infrared scope ten millimeter heater Cuz if my name ain't in the Book of Life I'm snuffing St. Peter Drinking the blood of Jesus Christ and pissing holy water no question who can come cleaner"

Oh yeah, if you're to purchase the 4 vinyls, I can give you a super bargain price on the licensed polish version of Koxbox debut album "Forever after". I own a copy in absolute mint condition, both CD and sleeve.

Major edit! Check first post: both Crop Circles vinyls are up there for sale! No fixed price, I suck at those. If we're both reasonable, we'll sort something out fairly quickly though.

I have their album "Mad Stof & Co.", or something similar. It's atrocious. Worst of all, it's apparently one the tougher old school releases to come by. I remember it being cheesy and corny as a bowl of rotten chocolate dipped Corn Flakes with hot sour milk poured over it. Terribly applied guitar riffs with pointlessly modulated 303s and childish, 'look ma, I'm so goa' cheerleader melodies. I haven't listened to it in over 5 years, luckily.

Yikes, man, that took brass balls the size of Jupiter to ask. Cari is *the* swede in electronic music. Period. Whatever goa/psy artists you admired from Sweden, they couldn't compete for the opening act of Cari's show, or mop the floor after. Anyways, despite the fact I think Cari's recent productions aren't the shadow of his former self, some directions I could point you into would be... Brian Sanhaji- Stereotype http://www.discogs.com/Brian-Sanhaji-Stere...release/1551778 Petar Dundov- Escapements http://www.discogs.com/Petar-Dundov-Escape...release/1439568 Joris Voorn- Future history http://www.discogs.com/Joris-Voorn-Future-.../release/340224 Anders Ilar- Nightwidth http://www.discogs.com/Anders-Ilar-Nightwidth/release/819063 Dominik Eulberg- Bionik http://www.discogs.com/Dominik-Eulberg-Bionik/master/33699 (more chilled & relaxed) Pantha Du Prince- This bliss http://www.discogs.com/Pantha-Du-Prince-Th...ss/master/60594 Check out Sweden's recent output, ever since they dropped the whole 'Purpose maker' mentality and style, there's a lot of producers hailing from there who focus on similar minimal productions, with deep bass lines and subtle melody changes. What Cari's doing lately ain't all that new and special. Similarly sounding stuff is played at tons of parties But you'd better off searching by yourself, this isn't really my style - not bone crushing enough.

I voted 'I only like a couple of their things'. I really enjoy listening to Solar Fields. The rest of the Ultimae catalogue doesn't really speak to me. I know a lot of people are all over Carbon Based Lifeforms and Aes Dana. The ambient style CBL present, I've heard done better, especially on numerous releases on the FAX label throughout the nineties. But that MOS tune they have is sweet. Aes Dana, on the other hand, produces fantastic ambient music. That's why I like only his "Aftermath" album, which is the toughest one to grab hold of, unfortunately. I find it the most ambient one, so to speak. Really deep, floating and atmospheric. I love it. What I usually dislike in his productions is this horrible sense of beat arrangement and percussion. I mean, Vincent must have this unmistakable talent of completely missplacing and missusing his bass lines and kicks. In my ears, he practically destroys tons of potentially great music with weak arrangements. Those morning trance tunes on his albums I find disposable. I love Solar Fields though. His evolution in terms of sound advancement and exploration is great. Calling him an ambient producer would be an underestimating and insulting statement, despite the fact he has become globally known for his beatless and floating music. His first two albums are so ecclectic, diverse and impossible to categorize. It's only now, with "Movements" that he fully operated his immense talent and released an album which made all his previous work take a back seat. I can hardly wait to see where he'll go next, although I'm far from being done with enjoying everything he released up to now!

God I was so drunk last night when I attempted writting a review I'll leave my 'expose' untouched, as a testimony to my communication capabilities after uncountable cans of beer!

What?!?! Bwhale man, if it wasn't for that thing they call taste, you and I would have already had a duel at high noon, no doubt about it dude! (kiddin' boy) I mean, massive respect and all, but Electron Wave's albums slays the living hell out of just about anything recorded with the intent of ripping parties apart. Uptempo, pumping, bound to reduce to dust music trying to sound overly spiritual or enlightened. Speaking of which, this one has the cheese factor toned down to the minimum, something "Magik Universe", "Second Phase" and, to a lesser extent the competent, "To Sirius" had trouble avoiding. Not to leave the impression that this is an ass kissing post, the first two tunes go nowhere. You'll find yourself listening to an identical 40 second segment on repeat for seven minutes minimum. Neuron Tranceiver and Neuron Tranceiver are so simple, bass heavy and structure-wise bleak: they revolve around repetitive melodic segments, and very linear leads and patterns, but if you're after stuff which will turn your old school goa trance party to a millenium New Year's eve without trying hard to sound dense with multiple layers, then Electron Wave is for you. Ferocious, light years from being innovative or genre challenging, it brings to the table party music that goes along with just about anything old school, with perfectly modulated percussion and effects. It doesn't wuite meets the standards "Transdimensional" set, but the good thing is that it doesn't even try to! That said, you'll have more fun listening to it! The last four tracks are by far the best, on the downside of things it did take five lackluster attempts to get there. 4/5 (for the overall energy and drive it has).

I concur with "The lone deranger" being a huge let down. I don't think there's a single track I like on it, except for Trancespotter. That album does not speak to me in any way. I cannot relax to those tracks, let alone dance to them, listen to them while walking, jogging, travelling short/long distances... I just can't. And please, at the usual guilty parties: do not tell me "try it on acid as only then does it reveal a whole new unexplored universe!". Stop. I don't give a shit. I'm not an astronaut. I only listen to music, not go around looking like Cpt. Piccard and exploring vast galaxies. Man With No Name's "Earth moving the sun" was below my expectations. It had a few amazing tracks, but by '98, he had raised the bar so high that, looking in retrospective, I don't think he could have recorded an album that would have met my wishes and demands. A pity though, 'cause as a kid, I canned to death everything he released. Prana's debut album, "Cyclone", is something of a disappointment to me as well. It probably has something to do with the fact that I heard "Geomantik" first, and it was love at first sight. It still remains one of my all time favorite albums, regardless of the genre. Everything else I heard by Tsuyoshi (Taiyo, Blissed or Joujouka) fails miserably in comparison. A fair 90% of everything with 'Asia 2001' written on it. Dated cheese. The live album was adequate, but I don't think any of his other albums had more than 2-3 average tracks. Ra- 9th. Kill me for being honest, if you can find me first. The whole egyptian, mystical, covered in a thick veil of mystery, with comforting and relieving melodies thing did not impress me.
