Excellent deal! No joke. I'm trying to do the same with some of my psy trance CDs as well. Good job Anoebis, with skillfull marketing and trading tactics like the ones you applied in this deal, I guess Suntrip's future is in safe hands.

Anders Ilar's "Nightwidth" is a minimal album that really tsk tsk tsked my whole world, while it manifested its top quality kliks & klaks, I kept on pliking & ploking on the couch...

+1 FAX releases are in a league of their own, at least as far as ambient music goes. Though I'm generalizing here, as I haven't heard a fairly large chunk of their releases, mainly due to their scarsity. I have not seen the marke place history, but I don't feel like I've missed out on a lot either. Only time can determine a true classic, and asking 150 euro for a quality release, true, some 17-18 months after its release is ridiculous. Nah, redundant.

What music are you listening to right now?
rino replied to Sputum Rotgut's topic in General Psytrance
I'm listening to V/A Recyclopedia Electronica (2004) (Recycled Loops) It's insanely awesome. I'm dancing my ass of right here in my own chair! Some of the funkiest, grooviest, dance floor friendly, bouncy and catchy techno floating around all placed on two CDs. Simply marvellous! Just looking at the tracklist is worth more than what I payed for the double CD compilation. Miserable 4 euro is what I gave for a new and sealed copy, yup -
All I wanted to hear. As a Ra fan that I consider myself to be, indian samples could only tarnish the man's reputation! Now I'm super excited! Oh boy, I haven't even ordered your V/A yet, and already comes another one... Kewl!

One interesting remark is that one of the discogs sellers now selling a copy of Solar Fields- Extended (2006) (Ultimae Records) for well over 100 euro started out over some 8 months ago with the price of 20. I remember occasionally looking at it and thinking is it possible that an extremely limited release from one of the most sought after modern ambient artists cannot fetch more than that. Obviously I was the only one who ever noticed such a contradiction, because that same seller today is asking 5 times more than he started out with. My only question to him would be: if nobody bought it for half a year for a fraction of the current price, what makes him/her think anybody would buy it now? It's not like people didn't know it was printed in 300 copies before some seller wrote extremely rare under the optional item description slot.
-
Cool. That is, only if the indian samples are toned down to a very desired level- absolute zero. As much as I'm excited about a new Suntrip Records release, my ears cannot cope with another slew of indian samples. Please no.

The first run of printed copies had a misprinted tracklist, so the retail copies were printed with an incorrect tracklist. The second, and all the subsequent prints, were issued with a sticker on the back cover in order to correct the wrong of the original first print. So, if you have a sticker on the back cover, your copy is not one of those which belongs to the first, original run of copies. Kind of like if you have a jewel case copy of The Delta's "Scizoeffective". Not that it's not authentic, it just isn't part of the original, digipak run... P.S.: I've never come across a copy of V/A Black Rhino where the tracklist is correct.

Most of those rare items you talked about, I've been owning since the so-called heyday. Some I bought for next to nothing in second hand shops and/or shops which were about to close down or just simply thought they were selling some run of the mill electronic music album, placing it in those "5 euro bins". Use discogs: look up other people's collections/wantlists, contact them, see if you can help them out and if there is any way they can help you with what you're looking for. Use psynews as well; ever since I became a member of this forum, I've hooked up with some very nice people who enabled me to hear some albums I practically gave up on quite some time ago. Spending obscene sums of cash for a piece of round, shiny plastic was never my sport either. I don't consider it a wise idea, but I don't feel like elaborating right now. What I never got my hands on when I had the time and the opportunity to (I lacked money though), I am trying to fix now through trading. Although I must admit I kind of lost interest in collectin everything labelled as vintage old school. To be honest, I've heard everything I really wanted to hear. Remember: There is no objective value of any CD on this planet. A certain album is worth only, and not a penny more, the amount YOU are willing to pay for it. A 100 pound release doesn't immediately mean it's a classic.

Oh boy! Oh boy! Oh boy! Oh boy! why am I the only person here who listens oldschool psytrance?
rino replied to radi6404's topic in General Psytrance
I'm just playin' with ya radster-man! And the reason for it is that you're asking a pretty dull question by asking "why am I the only person here who listens oldschool psytrance?", especially on a forum where there are hundreds of people who have hundreds upon hundreds of old school albums; ranging from classic and affirmed artists you ask about here (probably because you just recently discovered them), through to obscure, underground legends you'll get around to knowing in a few years. Remember: if 200 people don't reply to your Slinky Wizard threads and their likes, it doesn't mean we/they don't like the respective artists. It's more of a fact that people have moved on, growed out of repeating the identical tracklists over and over again. A Slinky Wizard related topic would have been THE thing to discuss a decade ago... But today, anno 2008? Nah man, there are hotter names rotating in people CD players. At least in mine Having a good ol' fashioned goa trance thread every once in a while is great, but too much of everything gets boring. So don't take me seriously. I'm just enjyoing a free sunday afternoon -
Many, many years ago. I remember my old copy of Astral Projection's "The astral files" was anything but mint the very moment I opened it, removed the plastic wrap paper, and took the CD out of the case. I was like: "What the fuck?" myself, but there wasn't much I could do. Anyways, that was like ten years ago, I guess. I do remember I was very sad, as it was one of my first psy trance CDs ever. Beh...

Radster, you are so cool. You are my hero. The last of the Goahicans. Without you we'd all be lost in the fog of modern useless music outputs. Carry the flag. Lead the way. Save our souls. Show us the light. Don't let us vanish in the night. I am quite certain that with 4 Posford albums and two A.P. releases, you ought to be at the forefront of the old school crusading clan. -
FS: Pleiadians - I.F.O. (Identified Flying Object)
rino replied to Goa-Head's topic in For Sale/ Trade
I was swift in editing my post. It went by unnoticed. But I don't understand why all the rebel attitude. The price is there for the entire world to see on where you put it... And 99% of people know who you are. If you're eager to sell it then I, with all due respect and honesty, don't think I'm harming you in any possible way by writting down the price. In fact, by letting people know how much does the item cost, you only increase the chance of selling the item, trust me -

rino replied to Goa-Head's topic in For Sale/ Trade
I don't think it's a matter of non-wanting it, as it's more the price issue. What you're asking for is not petty cash, no matter how you look at it. To many, despite the album's incontestable quality and value, that is out of their reach. -
I like this one a whole lot! Though I find myself less intrigued by it than the second part of the series, I reckon that is mainly because most of these tracks have been floating around my stereo during the years. Some very loved classics such as Bugged, Fistful Of Mutants, Mefisto and Something's Always Out There have all been re-polished and sound wonderful. It's great to have them all in one place. Needless to focus on them in a more in depth fashion, as they should be known to everybody. However, unlike its sequel which was killer material front to back, there are tracks here which don't really do it for me that much. Namely N By NW6, Finissimo and Uncontrollabe Substance, but that should be a matter of taste really. My opinion is that, if this is supposed to be a Flying Rhino Records Gus Till retrospective, tracks like Chai Machine and/or Slick Witch should have been here no matter what. Not to miss my point here: there are no bad tracks here, very far from it, I just feel some of Gus' more tweaked out, daring and magnificent output has been left out, like the two tracks I listed above. I cannot run away from the feeling they deserve to be in the company of these other classics. That said, Best of the Rhino years vol. 1 should get all around nods of approval. Despite the fact it's a compilation, I dig its flow, it rolls along nicely, making stops at some of the key productions by this great producer. I guess old schoolers will be satisfied as well as fans of groovy, juicy and slick progressive tracks. As stated by one of the above reviewers, it's nice to have so many fantastic tracks assembled on one CD, plus they'we all been remastered and give a new, thoroughly enjoyable sound. It won't ignite riots, but it wasn't meant to either. What it should do though, is bring back sweet memories and urge people to dig deeper into Gus Till's extensive body of work. Some well loved and known tunes, a few reworked and sorely missed numbers with a few fantastic collabs thrown in the mix, and there you have it- the finest selections of Gus Till's Flying Rhino Records years. Nuff said. 4/5.

Psyfactor / Aries Madness [Trishula Records]
rino replied to Trishula Records's topic in Artist News and Labels announcements
So wait, is this going to be a history lesson album? A throw back to the good ol' Zeus days spiced up with some unicorns. Sounds like a great sunday afternoon picnic soundtrack. -
This is an all around fantastic release. I won't comment upon the tracks themselves as abasio really hit it on the nail up there. The whole album has an overall dark feel to it. Dark as in creating a somewhat grayish atmosphere rather then trying to induce fear via kazillion BPM dark type tracks in order to portray macabre states of mind. But you knew that already. Gus Till really manages to pull out some lost gems here, giving us a taste of what we wanted to taste some years ago, but I guess it's never too late for quality stuff. And that is what you get here- quality throughout. Juicy basslines, groove, tricky and trippy FX, not complex melody work, but very effective and well done. As much as I can see this moving party crowds, for home listening purposes you don't have to look much further. Progressive at its best- floating, drifting, moving & soothing, thumping yet not thrown in your face. Underlying tones, never ending sections of dreamy and somewhat spooky sonic waves and an irresistible drive will not leave you flat. The music might seem cold upon initial listen, but there is so much more to it. I already feel like this one will be a real grower, and that the true potential of some numbers will hit me in a little while. Let's hope so. There is no filler material here, no album leftovers, no cheese, no fluff- just great, really great music. Just the Gus Till I wanted to hear, and then some. My favorite track is Mudless, which is in my opinion the finest progressive track ever recorded. But that's just me. Hot on its heels come Metatron and 3rd Mind, both of which are good enough to validate the purchase. Bottom line is: if you are a fan of Gus Till, you need this. If Flying Rhino's slicker, more minimal sound made your hair swing backwards, then you really do need this. If V/A Black rhino, V/A Third flight: Slipstream use to make your day, and if miss that feeling of progressive being "the next best invention since colored vinyl", then you should hit home base with this one! Regardless of what you were, or still are in to, I'd strongly suggest giving this a few spins. Odds are you'll like it a lot. Quality psy trance releases are not too hard to come by today, but while most great modern releases manifest greatness by exploring new grounds, breaking boundries, fliritng around and genre crossing, innovating and retrofiting, this compilation delivers a bunch of goodies the good ol' way, spiced up with improved sound. Classic material no doubt, and its greatest feat resides in the fact it still sounds bloody phenomanal.

Stupid me, a few trades later I remembered to drop a line or two... Great trader and all o' that superflous laudable eloquence. The only better thing to do than trade with Oopie is catch him on Msn. Speaking of which, I haven't been there for ages. Ages haven't been there for me. Whatever. Three thumbs up for Oopie.
