Well, today I'm kind of free and feeling lazy so I've decided to go through some vinyls and all, and just take a look at what I found: Spiral Trax first release, a one time collaboration between her majesty Miranda and DJ Anti! So, just to put this one back on the top, I'll keep it short and simple! While Sleepless Nation is a nice and pretty straight forward old school tune, with a hard drum kick, some nice background acidic melodies and a pretty catchy lead melody, it really does not come across as an indispensable old school tune. Definitely a strong number for your "trip down memory lane" afternoon, but I've heard stuff circa '97 much better than this. A fine tune though! The Gurningpoint, contrary to the opinion of Stormbringer from way back then, is one hell of a wicked, dance floor devastating, acidic old school killer!!! Man, mea culpa, I totally forgot how this one sounds- it totally blew me away (along with my speakers)!!! The drum kick is an undeniable party killer, a groovy bass line, the acidic synths are amazing and really build into an incredibly catchy lead melody, after that break with the screechy sound! I cannot even begin to understand how I forgot about it... While not a classic, this is one damn fine track, which deserves some attention! It can also be found on the Destination Goa 4 compilation, together with some other gems
-
Well then Colin, time to quit the contemplation and start with the action!
-
Cosmosis is THE man!!! I absolutely agree that nothing he ever made exceeded the sheer genius of Synergy, but the guy made so damn many amazing tunes and classics, it is downright crazy! He made old school acidic goa trance monsters, to intense psychedelic masterpieces, all the way through some excellent modern psy trance tracks... And although I personally do not approve most of his recent work, the least I can do is give this Psychedelica Melodica album at least 10 listens! I feel like I owe him that much, to say the least. Bilbo Bagginz is right up there with the italian composers, Koxbox, Transwave and the ol' Total Eclipse on my top of the top producers list!!! Oh yeah: and those of you who were @ O.Z.O.R.A. last summer, surely do remember how explosive and positive his live act was!!!

Yeah, Felipe, your post seems like you read an old post of mine and then wrote it back at me!!! 'Cause that is what I usually say: fuck genres, if it is good music, then it is good music! The fact I generally dislike nitzho, and notice how I never use the word "hate", because I do not hate anything (OK, except maybe for the well known israeli kilargh duo ), is due to my subjective taste and that is all. Not because I'm an ignorant hater or something! I still can hardly wait to hear what you cooked up for us Lost Buddha! Or was it Pandemonium? Or Felipe...? Whatever! Keep the music alive ! -
May be, may be... Just le me listen some of my CDs through, as you got like an item or two I'd gladly have on my shelf! And plus you're only trading, which is good since lately I've been on bread and water. Again.
-
It's me. Again. Writting how trustworthy of a trader/seller Pedro is. Again. Not only is the music looking like I bought it from a shop this morning, but he even threw in an excellent free bonus!!! Man, my highest recommendations for this guy! Maximum respect & I can hardly wait for our next deal.
-
I will never, but never, no matter how hard I try, understand this crazy ass collector mentality... So, following your logic, I should have bought all the Etnica releases post 1999, eventhough they are not to my liking? And yeah, see for example: I have the re-issue version of We Created Our Own Happiness because I don't feel like crate digging and spending a nice amount of money on the original, if I can get the re-issue for like 13 euros... Does that make me... I don't know what? Kidding. What I really don't get is the difference here! What is the difference? It is without a doubt the same release- the major difference being that on one copy it says Tunnel Reocrds and on the other one it says Avatar Records... But the music is the same, and it is the music that counts the most, right? And I am not just reffering to this release, but to all remasters, reissues, etc.! What is the REAL deal about here???
-
A nice sounding album, although IMO I find it to be the weakest release produced from that "clique"... Interstellar Asylum is a killer classic, while the rest is just nicely executed goa trance, but by the time this one dropped, we've already heard the best of 'em!
-
+1 I miss them each and every day of my life. Probably my all time favorite label- they had the greatest compilations evargh to have been released!
-
Masaray... His '95 album is pure old school goa trance sugar! I love it as much as an album can be loved!

MPRCD06: PANDEMONIUM! - MUINOMEDNAP!

God damn, Flying Cookie is... hmh, exxxplosive! I'm just listening to it and that is some music due to melt any dance floor. Amazing melodies. Great sample! Moon Fishing is well... the kind of track I usually don't like. I really like those slower, classic like background melodies, and the flute line is catchy as hell though, but it all pushed to the background, and the crunchy kick is leading the track... Some might like it, it sounds like a track conceived to please the nitzho crowd, and since I do not belong there, I must say the track does not amaze me too much. Oh well, don't mind my remarks though Felipe, as you know you just cannot please everybody, and evolution is always welcome!!! With Seq-uoia we are kind of back on track. The acid synth sounds nice in my ears, the melody, while far from complex or mind intriguing, is once again catchy and dance friendly. The track (as the previous two) shoud really do some heavy damage to all them crazy dancers, and it should probably knock the woofers outta any speaker system! I like it: it is uplifting and happy, but not on the "banging" nitzho side, this is still psychedelic enough to keep my interest. What I want to say, is that while listening to this, I can sense this music has a more determined and far reaching goal than just to bang all over the place with huuuge bass kicks and over-the-top melodies. That is what I do not like about the whole uplifting thing... This is uplifting, yet nicely constructed. For home listening and dance floor devastating. Overall, nice. I like it. IMO, nothing here for example tops Southern Oracle, but it wasn't supposed to. I can hear that was not your intention. The tracks sound very good, although 60 second samples don't say much to me! One negative comment would go to that bass kick on Moon Fishing... Tone it down, Felipe. A track like that seriously sounds like something I would label cheesy in 1999. The rest is so fine though, and a kick covering all those nice sounds, does not do the track justice. Let alone the fact that any of those effects sounds more elaborated and trippy than the kick. You've done a nice job balancing a strong kick and other sounds in the Seq-uoia track! All from me for now, keep it up! -

Well, I am everything but a nitzohonot fan, but that does not imply that this album sucks before I give it a listen! Maximal respect and support, of coarse I cannot wait to hear the album and this clash of styles and ideas! Nice going Felipe, keep the music coming As long as you evolve and pursue your own and original trademark sound, it cannot be bad. Don't be discouraged, I'm sure I will find something to my taste on the album!!! YAY!!! -
Yup, this is the 2002 reissue, I got both of 'em so I'm like a 110% positive about that! Yeah yeah, those sellers can really lure you in sometimes into buying them reissues and all...

X-isle is a great track, and beside from appearing on Earth Crossing, it can also be found on the following various artist compilation: http://www.discogs.com/release/36287 By the way, this is a great album, probably Dave Young's overall best work and most complete and well rounded off output, eventhough his best tracks are to be found elsewhere, IMHO! But as a whole, this is his most consistent and finest release. Flow wise, it functions just great, the tracks themselves are just amazing, plus now that is available from his website for almost nothing, there is no excuse for not having this. Hopefully, one day this will get the proper CD release it deserves. It's long overdue! If I was to pick favorite here, it would just have to be Liquid Neon Sky, and second place would probably go to the above mentioned X-isle... Not that the rest is to underestimated, but Liquid Neon Sky is such a sweet tune. Long as the road to hell, with a very mellow and slow intro, until some of the greatest melodies Chi A.D. has crafted kick in, and fom then on it is only bliss... It really needs to be heard to be believed!

You got a point there. Actually, the bottom line is that most people don't give a shit about the cover art and all, plus most people listen to their music behind their own four walls. And MP3, neverminding its inferior sound quality, is more than satisfactory. And yes, there is so much music out there, that not is a lifetime insufficient to listen to it all, but it's too short to even find it all. Of coarse, not that it justifies downloading... And yeah, artists are conscious of the piracy issue. Or that I hope at least. But they kept making music because they chose to keep on making it, and because they know there is a fanbase who actually will buy their releases. And personally I don't mind that much the whole downloading vs. CD feud, but what seriously pisses me off is when you for example have an artist or band you are really fond of. You really consider yourself to be their fan, and their music really means something to you. And then, people don't have the decency to show some minimal respect and give those same artists at least something in return. Those miserable 10-15 euros for an album... Is that too much? I'm not saying that music fans should go around buying entire albums because they like a single track on it, but at least show some respect. Man, somebody put forth an effort to make all that music available, at least show your respect where it is due, or where you think it should be do. Because by downloading, you show 0 respect. Oh yeah, and of coarse artists can make music without (or limited amounts of) money. Some of the greatest musical albums were recorded in basements, sleeping rooms, etc., but that is not the issue here... The money serves for paying bills and buying food and clothing. And when you're trying to make an honest living by working hard, and certain individuals then blatantly rape your work, that once again, just sucks! And all those viewpoints like: "Well, they can always quit producing if they don't like it, and find another job!" WTF? Why on earth would anybody quit doing a job he/she really likes and thouroughly enjoy, and replace it with something else, that would give you financial stability, but leave you utterly sad or whatever on a more personal level? Yeah, unfortunately donwnloaders obviously don't have a reason to buy. And I don't blame 'em, as we cannot all view music in the same way. I, for example, just cannot reduce my music to a bunch of files and folders ordered on my hard disk. From my wievpoint, that is just lame. I am not saying that makes me better than you or anybody else, or viceversa for that matter, but only that I like to have CDs on my shelf. I like to feel them, I like the shiny discs, I like the superior sound quality once I play my music loud as f**k on my living room speakers and all, and I especially like those good ol' vinyl big covers and that background sound the vinyl produces once the needle hits it. Marvellous! That is something MP3s still cannot do for me. But those are only my two cents, that nowadays most people couldn't care less about! I do however use and have some MP3 music, but hopefully only for a short time usage, until I get the real thing!

Hm, sunday night, no good movies anywhere, time to download and listen to this mix. But I'm too tired to comment anything now. Laterz...

God damn when the shit hits the fan! Say what rino?!?! Nothing in particular. This is an awesome track. Simple as that? Most likely, yes. Actually what really amazes me here are the fullonish arrangements but with tribal feeling elements which are usually not something I'm a sucker for, but here he (they?) pull it off just fine. Nice job

Life Extension - Side Effects (Avigmatic Rec)
rino replied to khetzal's topic in Artist News and Labels announcements
Not really a morning full-on man, but coming from Avigmatic Records, I think the least I can do is give it a couple of spins! First june 2007.... That's like two and a half months from now, right before summer. Perfect release date, and if it's any good, hopefully it'll become a festival favorite! -
I'll pass on the avatar discussion, as your pics vary from highly accomplished skeleton costumes from the skelly dude to some sweet model, actress or whatever on Oopie's avatar. Whatever. Irrelevant to the music discussion. But, oh man, To Sirius is one hell of an album! Melodic bliss at almost its finest. Contrary to what the majority may think, this is my own personal favorite relesae (seconded by Transdimensional) from the members of the whole Dimension 5/Hunab Ku/Electron Wave crew! It sounds like it was made and released at least three years prior to its original release date, but would you really expect anything less from these guys? As most users pointed out before me, the whole album is overflooded with highly emotional melodies that could compete with those courtesy of some pioneering old school veterans, it's full of those wonderful mystic and dreamy sounds and vibes, and it really pulls me in the whole nine yards every time I give it a spin! The moods these tracks put me in vary from melancholic to joyful to uplifting back to some good old dancing under the hot sun state of mind and body! What I particularly like on To Sirius is how these great melodies are emphasized and perfectly incorporated into the track, in a way that the listener can wholly assimilate their full effect! For example Universal Key from 06:30 on or even Beyond Control from around 06:15 after that great "Those eyes watching you... they know everything" sample, or even that catchy melody on Sign Of Life! Amazing stuff! And when one takes in consideration, and thus appreciates the stomping, fast paced, dance floor killers like the sure shot classic tune R.O.M., Paradox and the above mentioned Beyond Control, this album cannot pass as anything less than a 8/10. Hell, on a good day I'd give it a well polished and deserved 9!!! An essential purchase for fans of old school melodic goa trance. But y'all knew that already, no need for me to say it. Gosh, I cannot wait for that new Ra album to drop on Suntrip Records. My expactions are as high as the Statue of Liberty on cocaine!

Twisted Records LIVE in Concert ... Carling Academy, Brixton
rino replied to Liquid Ross's topic in UK
Needeless to say, I'll be there! I could use some help though, as I remember London as being an empty bottle of... something... I could use some company as well! Is there going to be some get together before the party? I think I'll be staying in some place in Picadilly Park or something... How far is that from the Brixton Academy? Help! -
I usually avoid downloading music, and I NEVER download new stuff, that is very much still in stock! However, when it comes to some old school releases, rarities and all, I gotta come straight and say that I still have some of those gems in mp3 or WAV format on my computer. Yeah, it all comes down to how much does a certain release mean to you, and how much are you willing to pay for it. But, what about those people who cannot afford to pay as much as is requested? And I'm not talking about lazy asses who don't wanna work! I'm talking about people who have regular jobs, pay bills, support a household with a 400-500 euro salary! I will give an example: Dimension 5's debut album has recently reached such an astronomical price, that nowadays I would for sure be inclined to resort to some p2p software if I really wanted to hear it, or didn't have it... And internet has done its huge part in artist promotion. It has promoted and given some artists a chance to get world wide recognition and fan base; something they were potentially denied before due to limited distribution, for example. But what really does suck is the fact that with this whole piracy issue, music is really starting to lose its value. Albums are randomly distributed all over the internet, in some compressed sound quality, a vast majority of releases suffers from bad sound quality, despite the year they were made in... What bothers me is when people run their mouth about really adoring and respecting a certain artist, and when it comes down to showing their support by buying at least one single album, they go like: "Oh naw, man, I already got it on MP3!!!" That is so fucking cheap and disrispectful! So yeah, internet made everything available to everyone, it really did bring certain aspects of music to my attention, but it's a tricky thing. I really think people are starting to forget what buying and listening to music is all about...

Now that Pavel mentioned them, I'll use Astral Projection as an example. While they were hailed world wide during the mid to late nineties for their wonderful and melodic goa trance, as the millenium came closing in, the same two producers that were for years on top of the heap, were now suddenly taking so much heat and critiques for never changing their style, and consequently lacking innovation... Can you imagine the wrath that would descend on X-Dream's back if they were ever to release two consecutive albums sounding the same, and thus probably risk the accusation of lacking innovation? People are gonna complain when artists keep on sounding the same for too long. People are gonna complain when artists change style, and therefore abandon their original sound those same people initially fell in love with. People are gonna complain if they don't hear what they wanted to hear. People are gonna complain when they hear exactly what they expected to hear as it leaves them unsurprised, and consequently results in being uncreative. People are gonna complain when they are given what they need to hear, and not what they want to hear. People are gonna complain because they are left behind the times and sound like a grumpy old broken record. But people are never gonna move the fuck on.

My pick: Old School Goa: The Truth Of Communication (1996) (Matsuri Records) First Flight (1996) (Flying Rhino Records) Air Born (1996) (Flying Rhino Records) Accidental Occidentalism (1995) (Symbiosis Records) Order Odonata (Volumes 1,2,3 are ALL essential) (1994, 1995, 1996) Orange Compilation (1995) (T.I.P. Records) Yellow Compilation (1995) (T.I.P. Records) Psy: The crystal skulls compilations are awesome, both of them, surely I would recommend 'em any time! The Evolution Of Expanded Consciousness (2006) (T.I.P. World Records) Forest Psy (darker stuff...): All three installations of the Psy Stories series on Parvati Records Virtually each and every compilation from Schlabbaduerst Rekkords, mainly the vol. 007, which is downright spektakulah! Sanatonic Audio (2006) (Sanatonic Records) Yeah, it is a lot, but I really felt like dropping a list, and oh yeah- the Twist Dreams compilation, do not go anywhere without it!

The 1996 remix of Mahadeva came waaaaaay before the '99 remix, and it was originally found on this nice compilation: V.A. A Taste Of Transient (1996) (Transient Records) link: http://www.discogs.com/release/158528 But it was then later to be licenced and therefore found on the Destination Goa 2 compilation as well...
