  1. Overwhelming news. I wonder who do I have to contact in order to get the blessing and get started on sucking on Avi's left testicle? I am particularly fond of the Jarre remixes. I remember S Club 7 being impressive at doing those - I wonder if Asstral Projection can outdo their output. Only they had to take on Abba's classics. Those are even harder to remix, due to the vocals. The israeli duo only have to deal with the instruments, God forbid Jarre used vocals as well, we'd have to wait until 2046 for that future instant classic! Oh shit, older tracks have been reworked. I wasn't aware of that. Last I heard, back in 2003, older tracks were reworked for an album due in 2004, then some even older tracks were reworked for an album which was supposed to be out in 2005, then (to massive surprise) something went wrong so the 2005 tracks were reworked to please the 2006 state of mind crowd. Then, what do you know, in 2006, who could care what went wrong, the 2006 material was reworked for a 2007 album, which was then delayed due to Lior giving his studio a paint job. Well, after the paint dried off, and the world stepped in 2007, it was time for some 2008 covers, for a brand new album due in, you guessed it, 2008. Avi caught a cold, a bad one. 2009. New mixes, old tracks. Same shit, different toilet. The crisis hit hard on all of us. The printing plant had to close down. No distributor. Once again, against all odds, the album has been delayed. But what do you know, to keep us all on the edge of our seats, once again, once and for all, yes the tracks have been completely reworked. Amazing. Astral forever. Duh, since it takes temporal infinity to release an album, or a reworked rework of a reworked album, there is no doubt these guys will be here forever. How can you not grace them with a "forever" label? The only band in the history, Guns 'n' Roses aside, which has been about to release an album for over five years.
  2. Oh shit, these are the dudes who made that Sanatonic Audio compilation, right? (DUH!) A must buy, an instant buy. These guys are so phucking sick, it makes me disgusted, makes me wanna vomit, shove needles in my eye balls - in brief - I LOVE THEM!
  3. I have the original Polydor vinyl. Probably inherited from my mother or something. Love it, cherish it, play it on those special occasions. Jarre is a geek bar none, but something about his music just makes me gleefully smile. Time after time after time after time.
  4. Yeah, I actually flew from Zagreb just to be there at the party. I stayed for a full week in London though. Found a cheap hostel, and shared a romm with a bunch of cool americans Younger Brother was very good, true, a totally unexpected performance, but Eat Static tore the roof off. I want a replay of that party!
  5. From all the psy live acts I've attended (and a fair 80% of them were witnessed while attending one of Ozoras I've been to): Blue Planet Corporation @ last year's Ozora, at around 07:30 in the morning. Oh the joy... Green Nuns Of The Revolution in London, @ the amazing Twisted Records label party Union Jack @ this year's Ozora Festival. These guys are the definite surprise of the event for me. Wow, what a powerful performance, and glorious track selection. Solar Fields @ last year's Ozora, as it was the very first time I heard tracks which were later released on "Movements", which still ranks as one of the finest downtempo releases I have ever listened to. Eat Static, London, May 2007. When they came onto the stage with those alien masks on, all hell broke loose. Woohoo!
  6. Damn straight they're back! Only up until a few weeks ago, my perception of Union Jack was "Oh, the regular trance guys who recorded that great tune called Two Full Moons & A Trout!". Fast forward a weeks later to O.Z.O.R.A. Festival, opening act of the day (night), ten o'clock in the evening. Basically, apart from re-invigorating my faith in some vintage old school acid trance, there were these amazing tunes which made me go completely ape shit to... Oh yeah, a few days more to get sober back in Zagreb, dusting some old records off, and the getting re-acquianted with the following, this time not out in the open, but in the comfort of my living room; Papillon, Triclops, Longhorn, Vowel, Funnelweb... WOW! This album is anything but perfect, and I am far from being the person competent enough to say whether the old Platipus sound is back or not, but if this is a return to the style of some days long gone, then I welcome it back with both hands wide open, and if it's an exploration of new and exciting territory, my infatuation is even greater. With a fine balance between ambient/downtempo and dance floor orientated material, Union Jack have created an album, which may not reach the insanely high standards met on their classic debut "There Will Be No Armageddon", yet they deliver an album many modern artists would consider a career defining moment. Not as acidic as its predecessor, but fortunately relieved of superflous ornaments, cheesy trance diva vocals and uplifting explosions of something lost & doomed souls on a global scale mistakingly refer to as emotional melodies... I am not really that much of an expert in this territory, but for an album which has five pieces which levitated an entire main stage thirty feet up in the air, and the remaining material, while not as dance friendly, most definitely demands your attention - this is an album I overlooked and decided to ignore despite reading the previous review which, in my opinion, pretty much nails it all down. As I stated, I doubt this will ever get as much praise as their debut, but for an act which has been absent for as long as they have, this is not only a positive surprise, this is a return to form many can only hope for. All of you scene veterans looking for a way to please both, fans of the old and maybe even imbibe some new followers along the way - this is how it should be done! As for the favorites, I'll stick to Lemmi's picks: Papillon, Longhorn (Jesus almighty what a track!) and Vowel are at the top of my list at the moment. Please do yourself a favor and check this out, no point in making the thirty third IM thread this week when music this good is waiting to be heard...
  7. I could care less about the "1000 clicks" part, but what I can say is that this year @ O.Z.O.R.A., the first half hour or so of Posford's performance he played a bunch of unidentified tunes - not that I'm the largest fan of his, but my friend who's a bona fide Posford addict claimed that he had never heard that material prior to then either, so if any of that stuff is an indication as to what may his new album sound like, then the only thing I can say is: I can hardly wait! It was a pretty powerful set too, but the first part was as impressive as anything I've listened to lately, really twisted and outer wordly!
  8. Yeah I forgot, I am sorry about your loss man, as I was really looking forward to finally getting to know you... I hope things turn out well for you at the end, as family always comes first, and I wish that you make it to these parts before we retire!
  9. We're leaving for Hungary tomorrow morning... I don't know anything about a psynews gathering, and no, most probably we won't be bringing a flag along either, but I'll be sporting one of these for the whole time, so if you spot me, feel free to approach and buy me a beer It's such a paradox though that a youngster from Zagreb has an NYC tag on his forehead as a sign of recognition. Whatever... For real now, will we meet somewhere around there? Here. Wherever.
  10. Yeah, haven't heard anything about a tent, so I hope some of us will get around to meeting up... Anyways, where's technosomy, I remember him being very hyped about this, and saying he was gonna give it a try. Unless the earth's core swallows my passport, we're coming. Hell, I'd manage even without the passport.
  11. mmmmmmmmm tasty, the finest ambient tune I've heard to date, maybe only equalled by one of those old Mystic Force tracks released on MFS... Too bad youtube "butchers down" this otherwise epic classic to only ten minutes... Top choice though! Made me go dig out my CD and put it on.

    Vampires Suck

My thoughts exactly. Respect for the enthusiasm and all, but how many more versions and takes on Scary Movie do I have to watch? How many? Somebody please answer... Worst thing about these kinds of movies is: the very same zit faced kids who go and get their rocks off on "Twilight" and what not then go and chuckle while watching the parody. What gives? As much as this atrocious exploitation of the vampire persona is a travesty on its own, an intentional travesty of an uninentional travesty takes the lowest common denominator possible, and tries to build upon it. No, it doesn't work for me. I'm sure this movie will make cinemas turgid with visitors regardless, but I guess this is a movie which targets at an audience hungry for an innocent laugh or two, if not benevolent fun with a profane twist, but nothing more.
  13. Not a big trance head, but these are some older party gems I still spin every once in a while at my place: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fINLpfPZcGg ...if the first one is a club smasher, this is a chilly one, still love it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ACAEaBVdn0k
  14. Regis / Female - Against Nature (11 Reclaimed Fragments) (Downwards) [DNLP12] This is it! Hard hitting techno with heavy industrial influences, compulsory for all Birmingham mono enthusiasts. Also, a required listen for all dubstep amd modern minimal haters, especially if you missed out on this album a decade ago Discogs link: http://www.discogs.com/Regis-Female-Against-Nature-11-Reclaimed-Fragments/release/2320566
  15. Cool thread... The recent rise of the vinyl medium is a phenomenon which has been on the rise these past few years, true. However, I wonder if it's an actual rise, or just a stronger advertising campaign. For the last decade or so, vinyl slowly moved out of the public eye, and its price began to decrease as well, which was a true gift to fans of wax. Now, there are new albums pressed on vinyl all over shops in Zagreb... Which is a weird sight, especially after many years gone by when second hand shops were the only place where you could come across 12" etc. The strictly limited edition aesthetic is a path pursued by many labels, especially outside the psy trance scene: they provide button badges, colored vinyls, glossy photo paper inserts, exclusive cover artworks, enhanced cover arts and what not with their limited edition 12" pressings. Personally, I have always been the one to prefer vinyl. But that has a lot to do with my folks as well. My mom is a musician, with too many records to count, two record players, so it has been a medium I was into since what now seems like forever. It's kind of hard to explain why, but I just like vinyl. In fact, I spent more money and invested more time on my bed room set-up than on my computer. My turntable + the amlpifier + the speaker system are awesome, and playing music in my room provides me with countless hours of immense pleasure. CDs are cool as well, and are way more practical to use, but the sound quality of the vinyl cannot be emulated, and that's it. The large cover art, the occasional etchings in the run-out groove, the surprise when you receive a record which plays insde out - for me, vinyl wins this round! The, to make an example, my computer is competent for checking mail and surfing discogs. Like hell do I have the nerve to stare at those Windows Media Player screen savers, sit in front of my monitor and "watch" music go by.
  16. Yes, I think that the gentlemen aimlessly throwing around terminology like funky house and techno bass lines are a little out of their league here, or just haven't gotten around to listening enough music to corroborate their statements. I agree with the non-enthusiastic comments though. I wouldn't like to draw any parallels with GMS and who-else-not, but I'm not into this new(er) Koxbox sound. I don't even mind great party music, but this in my ears doesn't qualify as something I would want to lose it to in a club. Sorry. I can understand how can somebody be down with this sound, I just don't like it. There are numerous examples of artists deemed as superb, and I still can't feel their output. But then again what do I know? It's not like I am a danish psy trance scene veteran, with classic releases tucked under my belt.
  17. Massive respect man! That is awesome! Did you make that yourself? Yo Ormion, where u @?

    Shutter Island

Yet another disappointing movie from my all time favorite director, Martin Scorses. Just when will this guy stop making movies we would like to see and go back to making movies we need to see? Shutter Island starts out on a good note. Creepy, mysterious, giving information out of a medicine dropper. I won't give any spoilers, but this is where it all went wrong for me: I was hoping for a well pulled off macabre thriller, a chef d'oeuvre of suspense and tension building, and instead I got a wannabe deep and thought provoking trip down one's psyche, and a battle for one's sanity. Sigh... But OK, if anyone deserves the attention and all the fame, it's Martin Scorsese. Not only has Paramount "graced" him with a 10,000,000$ four year contract, and not only has "The Departed" on its own earned more than his entire seventies filmography combined, he still has this urge of making likeable pictures, something that will be in the public's (and the critics) eye for a longer time. Too bad. My expectations were soooooooooooo much higher after all the Oscar hype and three consecutive Hollywood blockbusters... I am just glad that 30 years of immaculate film making has finally earned him a well deserved pension.
  19. All three releases on Something In The Sky, a new fruit of the Axis imprint. Utterly amazing hypnoticly profound sci-fi techno for those into it:
  20. On the more hip hop tip I'm also a huge fan of this instrumental tune. Huge reference point within the hip hop/turntablist circles: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dHh_imdLKCk As for a more straight up 909 & 303 madness, Sleezy D just about killed it way back when: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lJnqRCwPeSw
  21. Mantronix was awesome. I scooped up some of his stuff years ago from this bin under the counter in a record store which is no longer here in Zagreb. Great producer, huge impact on both thr hip hop culture and the electronic music scene, although there were guys way before him rocking the equipment you listed. My picks: http-~~-//www.youtube.com/watch?v=6_ngYkndfjw and this gem from 1982...: http-~~-//www.youtube.com/watch?v=g7flghNTYZI
  22. You speak the truth. Then I vote for Technossomy - V.T.O.L. from that point @ 09:50 onwards!

    There Will Be Blood

I thought this was a remarkable movie. Very atypical, and Daniel Day Lewis' performance is one for the hall of fame. The soundtrack is brilliant, and nothing short of that. My sister told me that the guy who composed the music is usually a rock guitar player in some band or something(???) The overall atmosphere of the movie was macabre, the character development and interaction was amazing. I found it a very introspective and claustrophobic movie, despite a heavy usage of wide and open spaces. I also thought it was one of the better pictures I've seen in recent times.
  24. I'd go with Vimana, the closing, climax passages on V.T.O.L. and Scarab (G.N.O.T.R. Remix), and that melody Subcouds rip on their incredibly overlooked and neglected classic On Red. It's a tough one though...
  25. Well yeah, they don't call Mad Mike, Dopplereffekt, DJ Stingray and Drexciya Detroit techno because it sounds "gangzta", thugged out or just plain cool, but because of the mere fact they all happen to reside in Detroit, from where they've all been churning out high quality electro tunes for over fifteen years... Don't see where the "first hand confusion" part comes in. They have all been around since, about, forever. Anyways, funny how you came across them listening to [DC], the same way I got to discover some of these artists as well... Anyways, glad to see we agree on the whole name giving/labelling thing. By this day and age, you'll hear (at least I do) people placing Detroit techno stamps on anything that isn's Viper XXL, Deep Dish, or Burial
