What music are you listening to right now?
seraph replied to Sputum Rotgut's topic in General Psytrance
Vernon - Wonderland ( Laurent Garnier Rmx ) - very smooth song, almost rework by master... Energy 52 - Cafe Del Mar ( LSG Rmx ) - Actually better than original, perfect Oliver Lieb Remix. Paragliders - Paraglide ( Blue Sky Mix ) - Even this could be better than original, 12 minutes of pure trance ! Art Of Trance - Mongoose ( Tek Tonik Mix ) - Very dreamy song, pretty good one... Yeah, this was old school trance morning... -

Great man ! I was really waiting for this one... But still haven't heard Sustentator...How is it ? -
So, I was thinking these days, months, what to hell happend to all this guys INVENTING the genre these days ? Something nasty happend when they are all DOOMED to make what the audience EXPECTS. They don't have their identity anymore and most of them are BOUND to make stuff for wide audience. So, I know that most of you guys agree about this REGRESSION that occur in the scene, no matter how many people pretend that it's progressing somewhere. I understand progression, but I leave that to the new commers that should make different music. But I do mind how come practically ALL of pioneers faded, started doing something else, GOT IN RELIGION, move onto other things, started MAKING HOUSE music...and all the differences that happend these years. I understand that people change and move in their life, but I don't get most of the artists MAKING the same thing everyone else makes pretending they are cool as everyone else, but completely lost their true identity, there are many artists that started doing this thing : Psychaos, Electric Universe, Shakta, Astral Projection, Man With No Name, Cosmosis, Talamasca and many more that CHANGED their style ' for better good ' or maybe for BETTER sale ? Like they needed better sale, Astral Projection especially... But nevermind the 'desperate' ranting, I made this topic about those brilliant masters that invented the genre and set the nowadays standards : UK Simon Posford - Started making trance music very young, played various instruments in life, computer geek mixed all of his atributes and became one of the most prominent guys in trance scene. Released various stuff under different project but his most popular projects were Hallucinogen, Shpongle, Celtic Cross, Anubis... FULL RESPECT ! Martin Freeland - After Simon Posford certainly most prominent british producer. He also set the standards of modern trance making, doing incredible stuff back then, when most of them were still peeing in their dipers, plus he is one of the best remixers in the world. Huge respect ! Dave Young - He started a bit later but left huge mark on the scene, making many good albums and releasing lots of classic singles. His project he did with Mike is called Chi - A.D. and I find it as one of the best projects in UK. And, beside all that, he still remained very modest and in the shadow. Also, huge respect for his contribution. Bill Halsey - He is one half of Cosmosis and with that group he achieved a lot, making different kinds of trance states, released also numerous singles and with his buddy Jeremy made 2 very psychedelic groups, Laughing Buddha being the second one. Very good artist ! Dino Psaras - Crazy, twisted guy, producing mostly deviant, twisted stuff is very respectable british producer and dj, founder of diabolic Cydonia project, but these days release stuff under his name...pretty respected persona in the british scene. Joti Sidhu - England born indian is still among my favourite music makers in UK. His oriental melodies and sounds set Goa standards back in 94-5-6-7. He continued onto more darker stuff, making it more and more deviant until he reached some funky moment and made pretty funky last album, a bit of regression but nevermind, he is still Joti ! Ben Watkins - One of the founders of the legendary Juno Reactor project. This group is among the first one in UK that started playing with psychedelic sounds and producing one of the first psy trance albums in history of trance. Constantly changing but staying true to himself he really made a myth out of this mythical group. Merv Pepler - Here is one of the aliens as well, this guy is also here since beginning, making different kinds of music during this long period, constantly changing his music, progressing, going back, regressing, playing with whatever he wants, very interesting mind. Sebastian Taylor - Guy behind Shakta, Somaton, Digitalis is also very professional. He started making near beginning and left heaps of quality albums behind. His 'natural' psychedelic really makies him original cause no one else makes this kind of trance music. FRANCE Serge Souque - He is one of the true masters of melody here. His perfect trance melodies are still in so many heads around the globe. This guy gathered another 3 good friends and made Total Eclipse project, one of the earlier ones in France. He also had The Antidote project which is not in the same style as Total Eclipse but pretty trippy. Frederick Holyszewski - Originally polish, this amazing mind started playing with psy sounds with his friend Christophe Drouillet back then, in the beginning and brought us so many happy moments with their Transwave project. All 3 albums are still among most melodic and psy albums of all time. His other projects Deedrah, Synthetic, GBU are also very good, but not that melodic though. Christophe Drouillet - This is one very creative guy as well, making ultimate trance in beginning with Frederick, continuing to his more wild, twisted project Absolum and amazing Elixir. He did get a bit minimal and too monotonic these days but he still remains as very good dj and prodcuer in the scene. DJ Lestat - This guy is also there, almost from beginning but has been active and very productive during the years that he also loose himself a little bit in full on, but still he is such an amazing dj and pretty funny producer that he is with big reason here, on the list. Gabriel Masurel - He is one of the gentlest ones, very sophisticated producer. With his friend Christophe Le Bras he made one of the best projects ever - Blue Planet Corporation. I don't need to say anything here, PERFECTION... Yannis Kammarinos - This greek guy living in France is also one of the pioneers in french scene. He left pretty good mark on Goa scene there with his highly melodic and lyrical arrangements as Jaia project. GERMANY Oliver Lieb - Even though he is not in psy trance scene, this guy deserves the biggest respect in German scene cause of his influence and basic set of the standards. He has MANY MANY projects, producing almost every single genre he could do. His most famous project is LSG, very trancey, freestyle music made for chilling and some clubs. With that one, he made ambient project Spicelab, which is pure bliss. He had huge influence on so many people cause he is there even from the eighties, experimenting, making such beautiful music. He is The King. Boris Blenn - He is the ultimate psy producer from Germany. He is the specialist for melodic psy music with incredible space melodies, being with Oliver Lieb most SPACEY artist in Germany. His project Electric Universe is amazing project, made 8 albums as Electric Universe, he also had Jupiter 8000 psy project and one ambient, Galaxy. He also decided to make 'modern' music but his version of full on is not so obvious, but still he lost his old touch. Tim Schuldt - Here is anpother one very prominent and one of true masters of psy genre in Germany. His darker, hypnotic music is very driving and he knows how to hypnotise you. He has project as Tim Schuldt, but also as Four Carry Nuts, Talking Souls, Ushuaya, all very good and psychedelic... Jan Muller & Marcus Maichel - These two as famous X-Dream really brought a lot to the trance scene, experimenting and breaking boundaries in trance structures. They both have side projects that are also very good - Delta and Children Of Paradise. They set the standards and now they are breaking them. Fair enough... Ben Wierzoh - He is also there from very beginning, doing his Planet BEN project where he took the genre and made it more minimal and pictoresque. Shame he is producing full on music as well these days, completely forgetting his old minimalistic style. ISRAEL Avi Nissim & Lior Perlmutter - There is no need discussing these two...Astral Projection ! Avi Algranati - He is one of the pioneers as well, being there since 1994, starting in incredible Indoor and Inscape projects with Ofer Dikovsky and Marko Goren. After they split he started with his solo project Space Cat. He is expert in creating very liquid mechanic sounds, great works. Ofer Dikovsky - Starting with Avi and Marko Indoor project, he continued to Tandu where they made great album, and continued to his solo project Oforia, very driving, psychedelic madness. During that time he made another project Pigs In Space, metallic, psy mayhem, perfect ! Guy Zukrel - One of the founders of MFG, with Aharon Segal, making lots of albums and singles and simpy doing one of the msot spiritual works in Israel. He moved onto Passenger project, very melodic and energetic project. This guy deserves huge respect. Har El Pruskky - This guy is also there since the end of eighties, producing trance music since then, doing very good work with hypnotising your brain as well. His project California Sunshine with Miko was his most popular project. He also has Adrenalin Drum project, less hypnotising and more minimal. Itzik Levy - This israeli guy was one of the first one in Israel dealing with trance. Before his Green House Effect project he was making music as Sandman, made few albums and lots of singles and is considered as one of the most brave ones from Israel changing the known israeli genre to something more precise and different. Erez Aizen & Amit Duvdevani - This crazy duo made one of the most popular trance acts of all time - Infected Mushroom. Their project was perfect until the moment when they actually didn't know what to do next. They completely regressed from the very psychedelic collage to something rather childish and immature. Pretty dissapointing nowadays act but still they are there cause they INVENT new sounds. Rami Shapira - The guy that stands behind Chakra project was also from the very beginning, doing his first, golden album The Promised Land with Edi Mis. He was making before and after that project music and is a very good DJ. Shame he is NOT producing music anymore, at least not with the same excitement. SWEDEN Miranda Silvergreen - Formerly known as Miranda is one of the first female psy trance producers. She makes perfect blend of melodic and hard psy trance. She also had other projects as Athena, Encens and she contributed a lot to the scene by being great producer and wild dj. David Tingsgard & Magnus Bladh - Altogether with Johan Rosen and Martin Kvisler they formed one of the darkest, most intense goa bands ever - Battle Of The Future Buddhas. With such strong name they completely made their own style and label, releasing only quality music. Bunch of very creative guys. Tomasz Balicki - Progressive icon with his project Atmos gained huge respect in the scene by inventing the genre now known as progressive trance. His liquid structures are for cozy trance states and he is not playing with your brain like the rest. Dennis Tapper - Another swedish psy master, named as Hux Flux contributed a lot to darker edge of psy at its best years. He hasn't made so much albums but had lots of singles experiments a lot. Robert Elster & Ricard Berglof - They are known for their Vibrasphere project. Before they were making progressive trance they were goa psy group called Subcouds with few goa singles released. I feel so sorry cause they haven't released any album as Subcouds, it would be great. Sebastian Mullaert & Marcus Henrickson - This duo known as Son Kite developed progressive genre and set the standards for that, making new kind of structures, smoothly changing the style and progressing it on the higher level. DENMARK Ian Ion & Frank'E - Two guys doing all sorts of stuff from even before their most famous project Kox Box. This group brought entirely fresh way of looking at psychedelia. Their morphing psychedelic visions are so delicious, so they have to make another group Psychopod. After enormous success they continued onto Saiko Pod project as well. Also released heaps of albums, quality ones. Jean Borelli - He used to make pretty good goa trance as Orion. He continued making psychedelic trance where he moved these days onto full on genre. He is still active and has many albums behind him, but is also lost in doing the same thing as everyone else these days. Can I mention Kristian Andersen ? - He was there since beginning making nice fusion between ethno and trance, for which he is completely original so that is why I counted him here too. He made several albums, progressed his genre, doing different things and is still active which gives him extra credit. But I don't want to talk about him cause he is here and might as well argue with me talking about him... ITALY Group Pleiadians with members Carlo Patterno, Maurizio Begotti, Andrea Rizzo and Max Lanfranconi is the only italian group that is so strong and monumental in the scene cause of incredible ammount of material they released and very innovative music they made. They have various projects ; Etnica, Pleiadians and Crop Circles. With all 3 projects they broke all the boundaries and brought trance on entirely different level. They released numerous albums and singles and are for me true masters of the genre. I would put more of the countries and artists but this topic is already so huge and I don't have so much time right now, you add if you didn't see someone mentioned...

PHUTUREPRIMITIVE - SUB CONSCIOUS 2005 WAVEFORM 1. RITES OF PASSAGE 2. DARKNESS 3. ELYSIUM 4. RITUAL 5. SPANISH FLY ( FLAMENCO DUB ) 6. HYPER SENCE 7. DRIFTING 8. SUBMERGE 9. DISSOLVE And here we have debut album by Phutureprimitive, new promising act in the realms of downtempo and ambient. You can easily hear very strong influence by Shpongle here, but it is not structured the same way. While Shpongle tends to loose itself in over sampling and playing with you, they arranged very thorughly these samles and made hypnotic journey rather than freestyle genre. Hardcore fans will recognise Shpongle too much and might get offended by it but I find this release very consistent and pretty floaty compared to last Shpongle for example. Even from the start you recognise some sounds and samples but the music itself grabs you from the start and cleverly prepare you for the journey. RITES OF PASSAGE is the longest one and most kaleidoscopic one. It has very good flow and you are really drifting in monumental spaces covered with beautiful morphing sounds. DARKNESS starts very good, with dark mood and sounds everywhere, brilliantly followed by some dreamy pads and structures. It sounds like a mixture of Synaesthesia and Simon Posford, very good work, one of the better ones on album. ELYSIUM continue very dreamy as well, making the beginning of the album rather psychedelic, melting soundscape of pads, sounds and crystal clear moods is set and you again feel hooked. RITUAL is more ethnic trackas the title say and very melodic. They moved from soundscapes onto more concrete stuff and this songs have very good developed ending. SPANISH FLY is pretty good flamenco inspired track but I find it the weakest one on album. It has very driving bass line and sounds pretty dubby but it lacks something to be fully appreciated as the rest of the album. HYPER SENCE continues album much better than Spanish Fly and again goes to dreamy realms, with some indian voices and ethnical moods, it is very good track also. DRIFTING comes and it sounds like it started last PART of the album. it is very tribal, rhythmical with some cute tropical feel to it. This one and next 2 songs sound more synaesthetical than kaleidoscopic in the structure. They are very trippy and lyrical I have to say, especially SUBMERGED. Whoa ! This is maybe the best track on album with DARKNESS and RITUAL. It is so melodic, smooth and liquid. The melodic line is so trancey and it reminds me a lot on some Oliver Lieb's work..So Delicious ! DISSOLVE is very short outro ( 3 minutes long ) but it is done like a classical piece, it is perfect ending of the album. All in all, this is VERY good continuation to downtempo genre brilliantly innovated by masters of the genre - Shpongle and even though it does remind at some stages a lot on them, it doesn't matter cause this guys pulled it perfectly without any non sense...9/10
-
Well, it's not quite the best chill out track ever but it is pretty good. I listened to this album these days too and I agree with you, it is very good; pretty deep and rather hypnotic. It's entirely Shponglesque but it is with different structure thought through. I quite liked Darkness, very primal, but one of the best on the album is SUBMERGE... Perfect !
-
Haha, you never stop to amaze me.

Fuck, now you got ME there...I've never heard about those singles and I thought I knew practicaly all by them...From when are they ? You also forgot about Blue Pyramid ( it's the song with Purple Om single ) which I haven't heard and Intastella ( which is on single with Iron Sun ) I am missing from them, but now you surprised me with this new one...Are you sure that is theirs or they just got it wrong on the download site... Tribes Of The Moon was released with Limitless Dimension on the EP and it is also great track... Cheers
-
No ? Then you don't know about Tribes Of The Moon too cause it is missing too... Also extremely good one...
-
Huh, yeah, his live act was pretty good, he progressed pretty much since the last album and I also long for his ambient material. I truly hope that he will release his new stuff as soon as possible...
-
Well, Deedrah and Synthetic music supposed to be weird... He was before 'normal'...with Transwave project...Haha
-
I am sorry for fixing you but I had to, it is called : Dead Can Dance - The Host Of Seraphim AMAZING song by them, but also from that album Mother Tongue.
-
Heh, I also choosen Deep Space 5D, but it is closely followed by Utopian Dream, Limitless Dimension, Harmonic Convergence, Phoenix, actually I like every single track of them. You forgot one of the best ones to put in list : GANYMEDE...simple perfection...
-
Huh, he is nuts have to say...
-
Huh, I forgot about Corazon De Fuego...Perfect ambient track...Maybe the best one on album...
-
I like his first album, it has some very dreamy tracks : RETURN OF THE TRAVELLERS, ENCHANTED FOREST,...AND THE SENSITIVES WILL BE KINGS... His second album is NOT good at all...
-
OFORIA - UPLIFTER X - DREAM - PANIC IN PARADISE DODGY CONNECTION - OFF LIMITS ASTRAL PROJECTION - VISIONS OF NASCA DELTA - AS A CHILD I COULD WALK ON THE CEILING
-
I knew you meant that one before but I didn't want to acknowledge it because IT IS GREAT track, one of the best on that album...! I gave it dozens of listens and it completely doesn't sound like euro melody but pure trancey melody, like old school trance, perfect one, it goes perfect as ending of this rather darker album with one 'lighter' track.
-
Chi-A.D. making euro trance melodies ? You got it wrong...I've heard all of their tracks actually and have them all and don't remember any track that had such structure. Or maybe you interpreted it in such way...Can you remember ? Is it from Infinitism or was it single...But don't tell me it is BIOCANDY...
-
They are quite different trax, but they both have incredible melodic work and atmosphere. The Flame is somehow darker and more deep, and The Flame Of Eternal Life is dreamy, smoother and generic. Both songs are great ! Actually whole opus of Chi-A.D. is great, I literally like every single song they made.

Again this obsession with dissing quality stuff ? Are you obsessed with provoking ? Every now and then you have an episode of vomiting on certain releases just for sake of... Chill...
