Some track on Asia 2001's Ama Zone had some super annoying racing car samples

Links don't work.
-
It was titled as "Etnica - Power Toy" on the traded CD I have it on, but apparently there is no such track? At leat I couldn't find any info. And this sounds so much like the Etnica/ Pleiadians sound that I would be very suprised to find otherwise.

No, it's not History.
-
This is real TRANCE music... I love every track. This has the same kind of relentless numbing doof like some old X-Dream stuff. Truly an ageless release!
-
It has some amazing tracks like The Key and Sweet Coming Home, but generally this is quite boooooring IMO.

'Camp Desertview' New Years Eve Party In SAHARA!
Taika-Kim replied to I LUV K's topic in International Multi-Day Festivals
Hmm I was there in 2005, and I'm not entirely sure if I liked what I saw... The trance culture wasn't exactly in harmony with the local population & nature :/ [edit] oops. Old post -
http://kim.apinavuori.net/mp3/etnica.ogg Is this released, I'd luuuurve to get this!
-
Yeah, of course any kind of music is better if it's played FASTER AND LOUDR!! That's why it's a good idea to have compressor for the PA at a party, and some speedhead should probably set it up TO MAKE THINGS LOUD ENOUGH!! YEAH! Bllh. But I pretend that the slower BPMs will make a comeback, as well as dynamics...

You people have, SO, too much free time on your hands But I'm going to try dc++, I found that for some reason our flat's hardware firewall (that the residents can't config for understandable reasons) had one port open so I can finally use that for the proper transfer mode... I tried dc++ some years ago, but then I had problems because all ports were set on stealth Altough I'm beginning to suspect that there can't be so much old "good" trance put there that I'm missing out anymore actually, 95% of the more unknown goa tracks I've been listening to lately, are such for a good reason BUT there's lots of other music I would like to hear, and Soulseek just isn't that good...
-
Woah, lot's of great stuff going here! Mm, I'd say you have no problem buying a laptop or two after selling all these
-
Hmm, am I the only oldschool fan who doesn't like MFG really? I can't think of one really good track from them It's mostly veeeery mediocre IMO. Just something I've been wondering...

Aavepyörä - Goddess Guerilla
Taika-Kim replied to Taika-Kim's topic in Artist News and Labels announcements
Yeah! -
http://aavepyora.net/musa/goddess.html Ok, here's 74 minutes of cutting edge wild trance from Finland for everybody! And like always, it's completely FREE! For those who are not familiar with me: I've been doing electronic music for about 8 years, and this is the ninth free release from our Aavepyörä collective. My style is colourful psytrance with oldschool & occasional electro influences. People love it. Probably you will too, if you dig old TIP, Dragonfly etc stuff (: ENJOY!
-
Yeah, I just would like to vey much hear the track! So if you happen to have ripped this, I would be very interested to hear this... I don't save most of the MP3s I listen to, for me they're like a modern radio... A great way to listen to new music and then decide what I want to buy.

Mastering on SoundForge
Taika-Kim replied to Stalker's topic in Music Making and Production/Industry
If you are doing comparisons like that you must LOWER the volume of the compressed tracks so that they have perceivably the same volume to the ears. Then turn up the volume from your speakers pretty much, and listen which version sounds better. This is because if that's everything you're doing, you're probably only taking away dynamics from the sound... Try to watch the peak volume indicator and set the compression according to that. If the volume already peaks near 0db most of the time, compression will in most cases only damage the track. The reason the track you compressed two times sounds "better" is because it is louder. But remember, again, that you can make the uncompressed file as loud too, by turning up the volume from your speakers... Also because your hearing isn't linear frequency-wise, the louder version might also sound clearer or more punchy, even though if it had the same frequency content than the uncompressed one. By "not linear" I mean that the volume of different frequencies will be perceived differently even if they have the same volume... We are much more sensitive to high frequencies than the lows, for example. So when you increase the overall loudness of the track with 2db for example, the highs will have the largest subjective increase in loudness, thus making the track "brighter" Here's a quick snap from "The Science of Sound": This picture also makes clear, why we have subwoofers and other bass boosters instead of treble-boosters This also shows, why you must very very SUPER careful when EQin for bass... You might boost the area around 70hz many DB, and the bass still might often sound too weak. What happens with a big PA is, that you have way too much energy in the lows, and if the PA is set to play "pro" releases (with a homogenous sound!) sharply, your tracks will probably sound muddy and unfocused. Most probably a better idea is to reprogram the bass sounds to also have some uppper-low presence and maybe more transient attack phases. Also notice how that threshold of hearing resembles the spectrum content of a nicely produced track (except for the extreme highs...)? The image is not of course only about that threshold but about sensitivities to different frequencies in general... -
Mastering on SoundForge
Taika-Kim replied to Stalker's topic in Music Making and Production/Industry
I've been through this on 100 other forums, but I'll say it again: I don't care for most "pro" mastered modern releases so much these days... The loudness race is ridiculous, I think that the adjustment on volume should be left to the listeners end. Also over exciting the highs seems to be rather common these days. The same with graphic media. 95% of the pictures I see every day are very very very saturated, contrasty & sharpened. Nothing wrong with that, except when that becomes a norm that is followed regardless of the situation. I'm not a sound engineer myself, and I just release my tracks for fun on the net, but my advise would be to make the track sound as good as possible in the mix, and use the maximizers/whatever only to reclaim the unused dynamics so any bits aren't wasted... So maximize with good taste, but try to avoid compression. I like to work visually, so learn to read those oscilloscopes, stereo field indicators & spectrums! Compression is good in fixing unwanted volume spikes (resonance, feedback, aligning phase waves...), and as an occasional cool effect. But usually when a sound lacks punch, I find it better to turn up the volume of the sound I want (or turn all other volumes DOWN! this way you'll end up using the available dynamic range better... you can always reclaim any unused headspace back in the masterinh phase), and then EQ any extra frequencies away. This way the sound will have dynamics, and listening to it will be much more relaxing on the ears. Anther good trick is to widen the stereo field and of course layering of sounds... It's much easier to control sounds if they're divided into several parts than try to create one patch that does every frequency right. A/B:ing with tracks you like is a good trick for getting a good basic sound if you have to master your own tracks... Yeah, it would be cool to have somebody else master my tracks. But, yeah, not going to happen unless somebody wants to do it for free :/ -
Ok, I made a careful scan through the list, and now all sold albums really should be removed
-
Hmm, this is interesting. Any chance of leaking these tracks to Soulseek or something ?

About Synogen's story-! YES! That's what I meant... In Morocco for example, the trance ceremonies used to go on for DAYS... In Siberia, some rituals took even a week to finish. The professor of comparative religious studies at my Uni told that he was once visiting the Hanti people in Siberia, and there was some ritual going on. He then proceeded to some other place, and after he came back days later, THE RITUAL WAS STILL GOING ON! Wow. That's pretty amazing IMO But the whole psytrance culture is just a more refined form of disco basically It's the best electronic music culture has yet to offer spiritually, but it could be so much more. But I don't think too many people would be interested, really, most (like me too, most of the time!) just enjoy dancing, seeing some friends & so on. But sometimes I really hope that somebody would explore the trance inducing forms of music more deeply also in the electronic music field. Here's some very interesting read for all us musicians out here: http://www.trance.ch/ There should be a ton of articles online, the layout has changed since I last visited, but I'm sure they're still there...

Whooot, is thaar somedang wong widh yuah hed? That's one of my favourite tunes from that time period! It has so much insane sample tweaking and it somehow sounds very mechanical and robotic but still not depressing like most of so-called cybertech or whatever...

On the risk of being too off topic again, about those direct debit payment systems: I've been an employer of both Greenpeace & Amnesty International doing fundraising (yeah, so I've been through this before<g>) and I can tell that these are absolutely great systems for people to help their organizations of choice, with minimal effort. And I'd say that both organizations can be trusted to use the money in best possible way! And about collecting: yeah, as I said, I have a bit of that too. Just try to take my old TIP & Dragonfly albums & I'll bite your head off We have been talking a lot about egos here... But it's not only about that, it's also an form of addiction to some people. And those aren't usually healthy. I for example can remember many times when I've ran to a used record store the first thing when I arrive in a new city. Some years ago when my collecting was going strongest and I was travelling around Europe, I must have spent something like a third of my time going through used record shop shelves or just looking for record stores whenever I was in a big enough city... It was exciting finding long looked-for releases for a few euros, but afterwards I've been thinking that I could surely have used my time in a more memorable way.

That's exactly what I meant... People spend little money in different things every now and then, and in the end, the sums really grow to be big. Now in the case of music, they could sell the alubms and still keep the music. So in practice the money they generate thus is almost completely surplus. Still now that there is one big sum of money like this, they like to spend it to have MORE things, even though just giving the money away would practically leave them in the same situation than before selling the CDs. They could still listen to the music. But yes, we are oppoturnistic and want to maximize our spending. I'm definitely not saying, that most people could just keep giving money away like that. BUT the whole idea behind all this was the thought that what if even every now and then, we would restrain from buying things we REALLY don't need, and instead helped some other people? I myself am part of some direct debit systems, Amnesty & Greenpeace both get 5 euros each month from me. That's not so much, but I'm shit poor as a student, so can't really manage more. BUT that's 120 euros each year, which actually sums up to something! (I used to give 35 euros each month actually, also to Unicef, WWF & Save the Children, but had to cut down because I ended up taking student loan because I just couldn't afford that much at this time) My point is, that we could very easily give away much more than we are used to WITHOUT our lives changing in any way to one direction or another! Ok, consider this a challenge everybody: what if you became member of (some new, if you are already part of some) some organization that aims to create a better world insted of supporting the latest killargh label? And last: no, I definitely don't think we should stop using money. It's an ingenious way of transferring value when there is no possibility of direct compensation between individuals for some service or trade!

And one thing: people here talk about psy as it is/ should be somehow very musical. I don't fully get this... I think trance is functional music, intended to help create a certain state of mind. Here's some very interesting read about one man's thoughts into the theory of trance inducing thought/ sensation patterns: I think there are still IMMENSE possibilities in real TRANCE sound as opposed to just musical ideas hung around the trance frame of sound... If you get what I'm trying to say... My music is not definitely like that. I like to put musical ideas and "hit" parts in songs, but lately I've really been thinking a lot about the idea of music that would really be as trance inducing as possible. I think at best trance tunes would be unrecognisable. There would be just a flow of music. I've been to some drumming ceremonies and such, and there isn't really pieces of music like there are at typical trance parties. There's just this relentless drumming, chanting & so on, built around some simple ideas that are modulated & morphed in time... You can't really say where some idea or some musical element begins or ends, it's really a dynamic process between the musicians & dancers. The problem with electronic music is of course, that there can't really be such an interplay between the dancers and the musicians. In an co-operative situation like this, the way pepole dance can change the way he people play the music, and vice versa. Every small thing somebody does, is immediately reflected in the whole in some way. Think of a flock of birds that seem to move in perfect harmony, but in face there IS no leader in the flock, the individuals are just reflecting each others actions back and forth... Also I'm tired of the artist mentality, I have never seen what's the point of having lives hows for example, when usually the tunes come from a CD (or some other [at least mostly] pre-rendered medium) anyway. I've been booked to play over the world this year, and I never really undestand why? I tell everybody they could just play my CD, but they still want me to have there. It's nice to travel of course so I go, but I just don't see the point. I think the DJ booth/playing space should be demolished & hidden, so there would jus be the music and the people. The floor plan of the parties should always be such, that there would be no central focus that would pull the people to face always the same direction... I think DJs / live PAs should bever be announced beforehand, just the style of music that would be played... All this artist mentality is a form of person worship, something that I find completely unaccectable in the world. OK, shoot me, I'm an idealist detached from reality, but I only write what I really feel would be healthy for the culture (also in more broad terms than just some techno parties).
