  1. Lab's Cloud - The Structure of Emotions Ensancha el Alma Records I checked out a few of this artist's other albums and they sit on the border between chillout and progressive psy (think Altar Records) - probably great if you're into that kind of thing but not for me. The Structure of Emotions, on the other hand, is possibly the best Ultimae album to have ever not been released by Ultimae. The opening three tracks are moody but hauntingly beautiful, before the album abruptly changes gears with the joyous (and still hauntingly beautiful) Beyond a Secret. The remaining tracks are less attention-grabbing and unique (for example Transparent Beings wouldn't sound out of place on a Carbon Based Lifeforms album and Reflections could pass for Substrata-era Biosphere) but with enough depth to reward repeat listens; special mention goes to Walking with Joel, which is based around a very simplistic sequence of two repeating chords but layered with field recordings which paint a heartwarming picture of the titular walk (I'm assuming Joel is the artist's son). The download version ends with a mixed version of the preceding 9 tracks, except it also includes an extra one between the six and seventh; I don't know why this wasn't included on the CD version, there's enough room for it and it's actually one of the highlights. Overall, I highly recommend this album and I really hope that Lab's Cloud makes more in this style in the future. Favourite tracks: 2, 3, 4, Ϫ bandcamp
  2. I have moved my music into this thread as I am not on a label and the tracks can currently be freely downloaded from Soundcloud. I like to make Goa and acid techno, preferably with bits of darkness and ambience and usually on the more experimental side. I am a new artist who is constantly learning and evolving.
  3. Artist: Various Title: The World Beyond Label: Neogoa Date: March, 20 2015 01 - Chapter I: The Vision (Passing The Monolith Into The Throat Of Time) (120 BPM) 02 - Chapter II: The Journey (Across The Silver Sea Of Eternal Life) (100 BPM) 03 - Chapter III: The Gate (Facing The Keeper Below The Human-Form Mountain) (136 BPM) 04 - Chapter IV: The Sphere (Ascending Towards Star-Eaters To Become The One) (146 BPM) "Hear ye hear ye! By decree of the order of goa trance purists we decree that the final two tracks on this compilation performed by heretofore unknown artisans are perfect in every aspect that can be measured by our mortal systems of worth. Furthermore it shall be exalted to the highest plane, be it physical, mental, or spiritual and will forever be the standard by which all further attempts at goa awesomeness shall be judged!" Bravo Neogoa. Bravo. You've really done it this time. As a netlabel you've been dedicated to keeping the spirit and vibe of goa trance alive; constantly and consistently pushing the music to shatter boundaries and preconceived notions of what it can be. Accompanied by stunning artwork the music is always freely given and with this release a new standard has been set. Though only 4 tracks the journey is a full albums length, beginning slowly before shattering expectations in a nuclear crescendo of goa trance wizardry. This is a concept release made by eight artists all of whom have previously appeared on releases from the label. Embedded within the artwork one will find hints of connection to previous Neogoa releases, particularly the Dimensional Gateway series and Celestial Transvibrations. We often talk in terms of releases not breaking any new ground, but this one does. Chapter I: The Vision (Passing The Monolith Into The Throat Of Time) I realize that every journey begins somewhere and to get to the World Beyond, this is the first step. But to me this is 17 (yep 17) minutes of stumbling around in an attic like the ghosts in Scooby Doo. Dark ambient when done well captures a feeling and propels the listener where the artist wants he or she to go. This sounds like a collection of noises that I skip every time. Perhaps it will appeal to some and that's good. No big deal, I don't get opera either and people love that sh*t. Chapter II: The Journey (Across The Silver Sea Of Eternal Life) is the bridge between the opening track and the outright earthquake that is to come. Like the others it's dark ambient opening sets the tone before it glides into a mid-tempo march. Goa sounds and effects ricochet off the walls as it prepares you for the oncoming train. It's mellow yet entrancing in it's own right and then changes tempo and adds a tribal aspect to its arsenal. Not devastating like the next two, but it's not supposed to be. The journey and understanding...take time. Chapter III: The Gate (Facing The Keeper Below The Human-Form Mountain) is the precursor to the blistering final chapter, but is a stomper in its own right. It also allows the dark tension to build before bouncing into another old school feel. The bounce on this one is infectious instantly morphing the worst dancers into a rhythmic Shiva where colors flow from magical fingertips in an elaborate tapestry of mystical dance. The vocal tacet seals the deal and I've just punched my ticket to Nirvana. Excuse me whilst I get down. Chapter IV: The Sphere (Ascending Towards Star-Eaters To Become The One). This track is an acidic napalm blast peering through darkness at the outset. Growling 303's are readily apparent and it sends electrical shivers through the atmosphere. 23 minutes of hurtling through the cosmos, top down system up! A perfect blend of old school rawness with modern sound and production. I believe all the old masters who delivered subpar post goa releases (looking right at you MFG and Pleiadians) should listen to this and learn how beautiful and raw goa trance can be today. A third of the way through and I already think this is one of the greatest goa tracks ever produced. The intensity is maintained as is the atmosphere and I realize I am in the presence of greatness. The break is palpable, a thing alive. Perfect. Sublime. Ruthless. Mystical. You heard Homer. I'll be honest with you. I don't have the patience to figure out the riddle. I've got kids and I had to take one of them to the emergency room on Friday. So I'll leave the mystery solving to Scoob, Shags, and you guys. But whomever was responsible for the energy, the journey, take a bow. The final two tracks for me are the most potent one-two punch I've experienced in recent memory. Ivan you once again have guided the music to a world beyond, with awesome sound, breathtaking presentation, and reassurance that just when you think you've gone as far as you can go the horizon is within reach. 4. RA - Visions Altar Records - ARDEP79 Ever since Earthcall came out eight long years ago, to quote from this new EP I have had a Burning Love Desire for RA to release more music, so to say I was excited when I found out about it would be an understatement! This is a downtempo release in a similar sort of style to the stunning album Unearthly (which has recently been remastered- not sure how they could improve on perfection!). Whilst I would have to say this one is not RA's most complex material, as always it's impeccably produced, highly pleasurable and soothing to listen to and a solid addition to their catalog. According to the credits, the Visions EP is a solo work by Lars W. Lind. I believe this is the first release from RA without Christer Borge-Lunde's involvement, so it is an interesting chance to hear Lars' influence on the project in isolation. 1. Enthralled 6:49 2. Mysterious Thing 6:51 3. Visions Of Touch 6:27 4. The Burning 7:18 1. Enthralled A seriously mellow and chilled out opening track. The synths wash over you and seem to melt together in a delicious slow ambience. 7/10 2. Mysterious Thing "The soul understands what the mind cannot conceive." a voice whispers enigmatically. This track turns the tension up just a notch with a more exotic flavor. 7/10 3. Visions of Touch The textures on this title track are delectable to my ears and brain, especially with that bass. That texture of the sound evokes thoughts of the synesthesia suggested in the track title. It's more upbeat, even funky, compared to the opening tracks. At the halfway point we get intense layers of euphoric synths in a mesmerizing chord progression. Now we're talking! 9/10 4. The Burning This has a trippier feeling than some of the earlier tracks with a pulsating ethereal voice and layers of gorgeous soundscape. It's simultaneously mellow, ambient, upbeat and psychedelic, which is a great achievement in itself, I think. We get a female voiceover with an American accent about Burning Love Desire. The theme of love, desire and romance is nice and I believe a change from the more purely spiritual or philosophical wisdoms we get in RA's previous tracks. I'll let you be the judge of how well it works here I think. 8/10 All in all, a great and extremely relaxing release and I hope with all my heart that we will be hearing plenty more from RA in the years to come. 8/10 https://ra-altar-records.bandcamp.com/album/visions
  5. THREAD MOVED HERE: You may know I am quite new to this so I would greatly appreciate any feedback, positive or negative. Thanks.
  6. Rita Raga - Flowing Circle Altar Records - ARDEP73 The Polish multi-instrumentalist Rita Raga is my favorite psychill artist (well, actually favorite after RA if you consider RA psychill artists rather than artists that sometimes make psychill). This new (last year ) EP combines blissful ambience with harder and more psychedelic moments. 1. Rita Raga feat. I.M.D. - Green Meadow 05:42 2 Rita Raga - Sea Of Fullness (Cabeiri Remix) 07:38 3. Mina & Rita Raga - Zywa Woda 10:50 4. Rita Raga & Fyre Ô - Wide Blue Sky 06:24 5. Rita Raga - White Blossom (Outro) 03:49 1. Green Meadow Dreamy vocals and a trippy and funky guitar plucking sound over some lush pads make for a seriously chilled out and ambient feeling piece of psychill. 6.5/10 2. The Sea of Fullness The mood starts off slightly darker and slightly more psychedelic here, a sharp pitch bending synth twangs into the foreground and a light sort of glitchy beat plays along with Rita's enchanting vocals. Some nice chord progressions and a bassy kick take over the last part of the track. Nice uplifting gated synths at the end are reminiscent of some of the best moments on her fantastic Mystic Melodies album. 7/10 3. Zywa Woda A more tribal beat here and a more eastern feel to some of the vocals. Lovely bass accompanied by haunting whispering sounds. The production quality sounds great to me. This is my favorite track so far. At the half way mark we get a really nice kick coming in and we're into harder psychill which I found really enjoyable. 9/10 4. Wide Blue Sky With a blissfully mellow opening, the track quickly picks up with the beat and introduces some very, very trippy patterns of sound. A hypnotic folky guitar melody takes over the foreground. This is great. I get a strong vibe of Irish folk music. We get a weird higher pitched voice-like synth picking up the melody and some quiet acidic sounds. If I had to give this a genre, it would be psyfolk. I'm reminded a bit of Posford's work with Celtic Cross and yeah some Shpongle but this is easily as good or possibly even better. It's so addictive I was really disappointed when the track ended. I would love it to go on for 15 minutes! Maybe Rita can give us some extended remixes of some of these tracks in the future? 10/10 5. White Blossom The opening to this with waves of string sounds is so beautiful I could feel the beginnings of a couple of tears starting to well up. We get a gentle, slow beat, some quiet piano sounds, Rita's beautiful voice and a sparkly sound. And just like that this lovely EP is over. Again I wanted this track to carry on longer but it works just right as a gentle outro. 9/10 This is a beautiful EP which I am excited to listen to again, especially Wide Blue Sky which I am utterly hooked on! The first two tracks are closer to ambient / chillout than psychedelic to me, which is absolutely fine because sometimes that's exactly what you need to calm you down. I find all Rita's music incredibly soothing and comforting, a guiding light through any kind of mental voyage. If you haven't heard much of Rita's music before I highly recommend you start with her Mystic Melodies album which is in equal parts soothing, groovy and extremely trippy and there are some harder full on remixes on it as well which were just great even for this old Goa head. Flowing Circle shows she's definitely still got it and has some amazing collaborations. Wide Blue Sky though, wow I want to hear it again right now! 9/10 https://altar-records-europe.bandcamp.com/album/flowing-circle
  7. Hi everyone. This site has been a huge part of my life over the years and helped me discover massive amounts of great music. I've enjoyed crafting reviews (a lot of them silly) and interacting with other people. I don't visit like I used to as we all get older and distracted with this thing called life. I just wanted to float a topic and see what members still visit and how many new fans of psytrance are here. I'll start: Mdk from USA! Mdk
  8. 87bpm Recorded this one on 4/20. Took a while to put this one together, a few months tweaking sounds and effects, it's a live hardware jam recorded straight from the mixer, I didn't even do any post processing on this one even though I guess it could use a little boost but anyways I liked it enough as is, might master it later. It's pretty long again meant to be more of a journey, if you don't like long intros skip to about 4 mins in I guess. Hope you enjoy ☮️🕉️
  9. This is a collaboration between Norweigan musicians Xerxes and Phoenix who is Marthe Borge-Lunde Pfirrmann, sister of Christer Borge-Lunde. She did some of the vocal work for RA. Some of Xerxes' earlier solo work is well worth a listen as well:

Hope is to evolve the 'ient series into serious Forest Psymbient, and so it naturally starts off in a more techno-land place .. Boreal Taiga from Oregon, USA starts the V/A with heavy rain reminiscing of static noise eventually patiently venturing into dubtechno beats, and The White Whisper from Italy places it self in between the three tracks with a lovely almost FSOLesque sound of delight, and last the powerful Christian Berg / Hydrous from Tønsberg in Norway goes into deep ambient with the closing track. We hope you enjoy, and that you will look forward to vol. 2 and it's evolution ... Wanna join in, let KER know. Kali Earth Records is extremely stoked to present a massive Forest VA-series to the world. This special HoddKER Mini-VA series project was started in late 2021, and is loosely inspired by the present world and the Norrøn Mythology of Hoddmimes Holt; the Forest where the last humans hid and survived Ragnarok. 14. Artist: James Murray & Francis M. Gri Title: Remote Redux Label: Ultimae Records Date: October, 2019 1. Ma 2. Toma 3. Remote 4. Lontano 5. Redux 6. Toma (Extended) I'm not going to say this is night-night music. But I'm not not going to say it. Cheese and crackers this is the soundtrack to slowly watching your life slip away while a heroin needle juts from your arm. Too dark? Ok, how bout...when I hear music like this I better have cucumber slices on my eyes in a room that smells like lavender while a towel barely covers my private bits. Beatless ambient is one thing, but beatless drone ambient? That's a whole 'nother level. There are only six tracks here, but it's almost an hour of "music" that never gets to the f*cking point. And it took two guys to create this? One guy to press play and the other one on continuous coffee generation? I'm poking fun, but the only way this could be slower is if he stopped it. Storm Comfort (80 BPM) 11. Creation Dub (72 BPM) 12. Living Connection (75 BPM) Reason number 572 why music is better than a baloney sandwich: just because it's old doesn't mean it goes bad. This is Andrew Dyche from Atlanta, GA who is in the business of creating downtempo and ambient chill music for your morning cup of coffee. And business is good. Even though Ektoplazm is undergoing what seems to be an eternal rebirth the links are still active, with plenty of music to discover and sample. This was Andrew's debut and as he navigates between the styles of downtempo music I can't help but be overcome with a sense of calm. Deeply relaxing and well produced music which soothes jangled nerves. The production sounds great and it's physically impossible to be stressed when listening to this. Most tracks are medium in length so they don't fall into the pitfall of overlong repetition. And while that is a selling point (clearly not selling if it's free) he doesn't reinvent the wheel. And that's ok. The dubby bass is prevalent in almost all the tracks, but the star of the show is all the music around that bass. The whole vibe is about slowing things down and seeing all the life in its myriad of forms which surround us, Frogs, birds, insects...The connection. There is some filler and he seems stuck in an algorithm with the way the tracks are constructed. A whole album of similar tracks at this tempo lends itself to becoming becoming background music. A pretty decent album that you can put on and relax. Maybe you're down for a nap or it's that first cup in the morning. Ektoplazm

  20. Artist: Aes Dana Title: Inks Label: Ultimae Date: December, 2019 1. Inks 2. Untold 3. Nuphar Log 4. Peace Corrosion 5. Otherness (Album Edit) 6. Transparency Syndrome 7. Akacie 8. Ashen 9. The Gradual District 10. Alep Offset 11. Juniper Vincent Villuis whose name sounds more like a cartoon villain than a master of the downtempo genre has released his first album under the Aes Dana name in 7 years. He did a collaborative effort with Miktek (Far & Off which was brilliant by the way) in 2016, but he's back to producing music. And we are all the better for it. This is some cold and oftentimes dark stuff most suitable for a rainy day (surprise, surprise). The sound is off the charts amazing and moves deftly between minimal, glitch, techno, dub, and downtempo, oftentimes within the same track. It's very emotional with stratospheric pads and audible clicks and pops that will welcome your grey mood. The basses though...thunderous and encompassing. This is the kind of album where you sift through the layers to hear new sounds no matter how loud or soft they may be. Like a lot of his music there isn't one track that stands out above the rest, but as a whole package it really is an excellent listen. And I'll agree with the Discogs reviewer that it is one of his best albums to date. Ultimae Bandcamp
