Artist: Veasna Title: 5ynergy - 5th Anniversary EP Label: Self-released Date: December 1, 2018 1. Dreams 2. Mu Cephei 3. Discovery 4. Infrared 5. Chromatron Veasna is Patrick Dinklage, a trance music maker who among other things likes producing trance and letting people listen to it. I've heard it said that he balances between the old and the new like a complete champ. And no, I still haven't listened to Spectral flux (I'm waiting to buy it), so until now I haven't had much of an impression. But that all changes today. I put this bad boy on and ooh ah did i enjoy at least 4 of them. Dreams: I played this in the car first, now I've had problems with my car speakers before making some trance (Lectro Spektral) sound bothersome. They strike again with the white noise snare that comes in at 1:20. I stuck it out, and tried again on a bunch of headphones, still annoying but not painful, sounds like the noise the protogoa team decided to bury in 89. Every part of this track is great bar for that one sound that persists throughout the entire track. Mu Cephei: A super funky lead driven piece that doesn't run out of ideas. No sir this is pure floaty, happy trance, uplifting & fun. Discovery: The happy atmospheres get pushed away as something more ominous begins. the intro is cool, the kicks are beefed up, the bassline rides between layers smoothly. Then the leads come in, and the zippiness begins and takes us away. Infrared: This EP just keeps getting better and better. This track is craziness on heat, skittles on ice, stir-fry in Malaysia. You get it, its a good track, but it becomes AMAZING at the 4 minute mark. THICK leads come in and get swirled around by layers on layers. undoubtedly my favourite. Chromatron: So where to now? Oh whats that? You can make an equally as wild track as infrared but completely different? Lord take me. I can't even tell if Dinklage loops his sounds, his leads go on and on and on and then they change and do it all over again. A close 2nd favourite. This EP gets exponentially better as it goes on. each track is better than the last until it climaxes into a sticky mess of Goa fury. The last two tracks are what i'd recommend you buy this for, but you got a floaty number and a big basslined number too. It's a shame the digipack kickstarter project didn't get it's legs and run away with our money but on the 8th of february 1942 general Arthur Percival surrendered Singapore to Japanese forces, after already stating "In going to Malaya I .... finding myself involved in a pretty sticky business with the inadequate forces which are usually to be found in the distant parts of our Empire in the early stages of a war." He was forced to surrender with a white flag in the lead of his forces, captured, and upon release blamed as being ineffectual as a General. So things could be worse. Definitely recommend this EP. https://veasna.bandcamp.com/album/5ynergy-5th-anniversary-ep

Artist: Fiery Dawn Title: Trip To The UnderWorld Label: Self Release Date: September 8, 2018 3 more tracks and you coulda had an album. No matter. Fiery dawn is at a sweet spot in his production. Not only is his output just ridiculous, with a 2018 album, another Ep, tracks on various comps, a bunch of down tempo while maintaining what I can only assume is some semblance of a life. I have a life too, it revolves around listening to banger after banger of Fiery D and others output. This ep takes a couple of tippie toes away from the space trance that Dawn is well known for. Trip To The Underworld is the most unique. Coming at you without a distinct melody you know you'll need something else to keep your attention. Fiery know's too, he doesn't fail and has me hooked from that wonderful intro all the way to the end. It certainly is a track that'll take you to the underworld. Next up we got Phantasmagoria. Acid riffs, hard kicks, a squelch or two and a solid baseline are here to carry us away to trance land. Other than a few key changes (which are starting to irk me) the track is absolutely wonderful and full of funk. Even on bandcamp I missed the change between this and the next track. The flow is unreal. But we aren't off the hook yet. Goblins and Trolls comes in even hotter and crazier. Fiery D has either expanded his sound box or developed his repertoire, or both. Either way he is putting it to good use here. The track gets real wild just after the 3 minute mark and it doesn't let up. My favourite here. A straight arm flailing stomper. Temple of Warriors Is a nice little downtempo closer that Fiery D does so well. The Ep is awesome, with a unique first track and two flaming tracks following it up I would recommend getting this on your hard drives. transfer it to your phones, mp3's, listen on the band camp app, what ever you want. I'll be bumping this for a while as I feel like you can hear a strong development in his production and ideas. Good work I do need to ask what the idea behind key changes are? Can I get some artistic input. My position is it disrupts many a good moment in a track making it feel like an unnatural direction change. That being said I get over it pretty quickly and do understand that some notes need a different key to work. But I do know that I've never listened to a track and thought 'This needs to change key right about now'. Grumblings of a guy on a forum. https://fierydawn.bandcamp.com/album/trip-to-underworld

Artist: Lifespirit Title: Talking With Osho Label: iM Electronica Date: 2017, July 01. LifeSpirit – Tomorrow Never Comes (7:55) 02. LifeSpirit – There Is No Question (8:22) 03. LifeSpirit – Being in Love (8:24) 04. LifeSpirit – Deeper You Go (8:22) "There are people who have philosophy of life but they don't have any life" "Is that the philosophy of life" "No" - Zip, Wurp, beep. Simplicity can be bliss. You know it, I know, it goes without saying. Why am I saying it then? Because simplicity really can be bliss. Lifespirit epitomizes this. Talking with Osho is the EP brought to us by Lifespirit, Who I have not heard from until now. Almost no information exists for this ep, I don't even know how I got it and it's only been a week. Nevertheless Every song here progresses into a series of amazing melodies that follow a conversation with Osho who pops up for the intro's and breaks of each song. Tomorrow Never comes - An awesome intro into the EP, we meet Osho and the journey begins. I love how LS doesn't overuse the vocals or attempt to make it spiritual in that dicky sort of way. He has done a great job with this track. The melodies aren't to aggressive but make you wanna sway and jump and stomp your feet. There Is No Question - A deeper, dreamier more atmospheric track than the first, the start of which reminds me of a Merkaba track. Everytime you think to yourself that the track should change it up a little it does just that. Right until the end where we are lead into a final minute of bliss. I like how he doesn't throw the best bits in where you might expect them. Oh and the simplicity of it all. Being In Love - Picks up where There is No Question left off with a nice mix right into the tracks intro. Another slow steady progression into a great melodies that almost comes out of nowhere. Once again Lifespirit doesn't over use the melodies that he has concocted and changes it up pretty quickly.... Then It' back again, but better. Oh Osho, so wise. Deeper You Go - Ill go deep with you Lifespirit. This track is easily the hottest on the EP. Those of you that love those crazy leads whirring in your ears Should love this. The track is hot Hot HOT. not going where you expect at first. Maybe that's the message behind it all. Who knows. We could never know, maybe that's the message. Maybe there is no message. Oh shit, Osho has taken me down the rabbit hole. All in all this is an awesome EP. He hasn't gone over the top at all and has focused on doing what he does right. I definitely recommend listening to this EP, even if that means a naughty DL. I also recommend listening to it as one piece. The tracks are nicely mixed into the next while there isn't a boring part. The tracks aren't the most layered tracks out there but I can see that being a big bonus for most of you. I would say that if you ain't about that spiritual shit you should stay away . But I really can't, we should all go on a journey with Osho. https://www.beatport.com/release/talking-with-osho/2098150

Tottem - Natural Mystic EP Goa Records (goaep171) - Geomagnetic label group Released: April 15, 2015 Tottem is Christoffer Totte from Sweeden (had to find his soundcloud account to find any information on the artist, haha, pretty low-key) and for me his music was a totally unknown until last year when I stumbled upon his EPs in the vast catalogue of Geomagnetic label group... But what a pleasant meet this has been, without any doubt my favourite new artist to appear in 2015, hands down! Already his sound is very mature and complete, so I cannot wait to hear what will be in store for the future.... and I am surprised nobody else has reviewed some of his work to this date on Psynews (this and another EP called Proactive Runes... which I probably also should review), so for a starter you will have to make do with me Let us just get down and dirty, well first things first, overall the tracks have a very ritualistic feel to them, with deep grooves and panoramic soundscapes that swirls around "the room". As a simplistic approach, this could be defined as foresty Goa trance with most emphasis on the Goa part, yet the bottom sound-floor is based on the deep drive and bass-scape often found in (good) forest trance. I can only imagine how it would rip the dance-floors when played on good sound-system, yiaks! 1. The Yogis An epic opener, the track slowly builds up (and not in a hurry) to open up into swirling alien melodies, perfect panoramic "views" The way the melodies are build makes me think of Trold, but I wouldn’t say they are alike, but some kind kinship exist with the non-linear evolution the melodies undergoes... like the continues stream of the subconscious... very psychedelic 2. Buddhas From the Past Present and the Future The tribes move in... here we're moving into fire-dance territories. And then the melodies start.... underplayed and subtle, but suddenly you realize that you are embedded in a multi-layered cake of soothing melodies, very well made! Still the drive and the evolution of the track is very slow and patient (a good thing) with dreamy samples dropping in now and then... a trip! 3. Vishnu Now its getting darker and more foresty, the groove is deep and mystic (fucking amazing if you ask me)... The top-layers are still dream-like and floating on top of the deep vibrations underneath, very interesting combination! I have to hear this on a big sound-system with dancing people around me... Woah! This mix of deep grooves and dream-like melodies is very unique and very interesting, very epic sounding Mystical trance! 4. Natural Mystic For the last track we are back in the jungle to begin with but soon we are going to space... A nice closing track, with a little bit of sentimental note it. It is less involving than the previous tracks, the last bit of the track on the other hand takes you straight to the stars with laser-guns and aliens floating around, finishes too fast, or gets there too late though All in all, this a very very interesting contribution to the scene, and I hope this means that we are in store for even more from his hand... a very fresh take on the Goa scene, love it!!! Highly recommended!!! 5/5 Listen to it and buy it here >> Bandcamp <<

Luminance is a photometric measure of the luminous intensity per unit area of light travelling in a given direction. Luminance is often used to characterize emission or reflection from flat, diffuse surfaces. The luminance indicates how much luminous power will be detected by an eye looking at the surface from a particular angle of view. Luminance is thus an indicator of how bright the surface will appear. In this case, the solid angle of interest is the solid angle subtended by the eye's pupil. https://dhamikamusic.bandcamp.com/album/luminance-ep

Artist: Terrafractyl Title: A Speck of Dust Label: Kinematic Records Date: March, 2013 1. Thoughts of Mind 2. Retribalization 3. Care to Join Us (Vs Launchpad) 4. A Speck of Dust 5. Machinery of Nature http://kinematicrecords.bandcamp.com/album/a-speck-of-dust Terrafractyl is a name synonymous with the Aussie morning psy scene, and one that every self respecting doofer knows well by now. Over the last decade or so he has been pushing forward his own unique blend of melodic morning psytrance with hints of jazz and extreme doses of psychedelia, all tied together in a funky musical and uplifting way. Following up from the success of last years Electronic Evolution, Felix Greenlees brings us this five track EP - A Speck of Dust.. At once evoking images of the vast expanse of space in an all too distant universe, A Speck of Dust continues right where last years Electronic Evolution left off, perhaps taking things in a slightly different direction for those with discerning ears. From the opening notes you are instantly transported into the familiar Terrafractyl world filled to the brim with psychedelic intricacies just waiting to be explored by the intrepid traveller... A Speck of Dust is a journey in and of itself. The first track Thoughts of Mind is a true to form Terrafractyl masterpiece that will send any listener on a trip through inner space.. Wasting no time it kicks off with a funky bassline and intricately reverberating psychedelic leads that weave their way through the audio spectrum. Some perfectly placed samples reignite the track halfway through as some deft percussions work keeps things flowing nicely until the climax. 7/10 Retribalization is an absolutely stellar track that captures the imagination and sends the mind reeling and the feet stomping. Some of the most psychedelic sounds of the album flow throughout as Felix’ audio wizardry shines through. Perfectly pitched leads guide the listener gently through the vast landscape while a funky beat underlays the whole thing throughout. 8/10 Care to Join Us is a slightly darker track starting with a beautiful sample and growing to a crescendo at its peak that has a break and vocal samples that will send any dancefloor into a frenzy. 8/10 The title track, A Speck of Dust is a prototypical Terrafractyl track, continuing with the theme of human evolution and our not too distant future. Big basslines and funked out sounds all the way through, with lush piano lead melodies spiralling and swirling throughout. 8/10 The last track The Machinery of Nature is more progressive in style, with a gentle and building flow, reminiscent of some of Felix’s other projects almost, but with the distinct Terrafractyl style. 7.5/10 Overall this EP flows gradually and precisely through an almost dark vaccuum of humanity, possibly some of his “darkest” tracks yet, in the context of Terrafractyl at least. It takes a peek at our coming future, the hopes, possibilities and dreams as we truly enter the electronic age. From classic style morning tracks to more progressive, almost Hypnagog like sounds. A Speck of Dust is a beautiful aural journey and one of my favourite Terrafractyl releases yet, and thats saying a lot. Overall: 8/10
