Artist: N.I.O. Title: Search For Insights Label: EDR (EDR? Don't they fill prescriptions and sh*t?) Date: November, 2011 1. My Domain 2. Mental As Anything 3. Search For Insight 4. Just Around the Corner This is New Intelligent Organism, a side project of Israeli psytrance producer Crownick, aka Gilad Arama. No clue who that is, but what I do know is that it was mastered by Space Cat. So he's got that going for him. I'm a sucker for short track times and slow bpm's so I figured I would give this a go. Don't cost nothin'. My Domain- Imagine early Depeche Mode dreary lyrics and with breakbeats. You know back when only that skater kid in high school with the funny haircut listened to them? Is it any good? I would say the best thing about this track is that it was only 4 minutes long. I mean the lyric told me to stay away, why didn't I listen? Mental As Anything- If I was directing this video there would be a piano on the beach as the waves lap against the shore. Why? Because under no circumstance does a f*cking piano belong there. It's like when advertisers have a product they label red, but it's blue with no red anywhere. The melody is dark and sad but I have to say Depeche Mode did it with Mephisto back in the early 90's. Not bad at all especially if you're in the mood for nostalgia or are thinking about cutting yourself. I liked it Search For Insight- Ok, ok...he gets a little funky here. The breakbeat and spooky melody work well together and then window rattling bass takes over. The leads change while the percussion is a hammering on doors kinda thing with a long sample near the end about how we've lost something no matter how technologically advanced we become. Maybe. But we can also cure syphilis. Technology 1, What we've lost...who gives a f*ck. Just Around the Corner- Slow, with a marching slave vibe. The melodies are again dark as they layer, and I do like the middle of the track breakbeat. Other than that...meh. I liked it. Kinda. The melodies were indeed dark and spooky with great atmosphere creation. Most of the breakbeat was awesome and kept it interesting with a heavy techno vibe. What I think is lacking is some subtlety. Everything was just thrown in without any growth or evolving. It was loud without any changes in volume. Still they say a full album is on the way and I would be interested in hearing it. http://www.ektoplazm.com/section/free-music Mdk
