Hmm, I notice that so many pople here love to bitch about this artist or how so and so has never evolved. If you all think you are so bloody special let's see your music hey?? God you guys can be so bloody insulting, one thing aboutpsytrancers is that they are very insensitive towards the musicians, when they do crap all themselves! Maybe if we let those who actually make music whine, but thos like me who have little or no real experience, and I don't count DJ'ing as music making, shut uo for once! That post about MFG is just disgusting! Sure, I was a huge Metallica fan and I don't enjoy their latest stuff, but I don't say they are crap and refuse to evolve! If you don't like the goddamnit don't buy it! Shut up bitches and get a damn life!

99% Agree.

The 99 is regarding people bitching about what artists do or do not do, when they change their music, when they don't, etc. Artists make music because they want to. People buy their music because they like it. If you don't like music, don't buy it, but don't tell artists that they should change their style to suit your tastes. It's like telling your neighbors to change girlfriends or telling your friends to stop liking certain flavours of ice-cream: none of your goddamn business.

The 1% disagree is Metallica: I wouldn't tell them to change, that's their own decision. However, I will say that everything starting with the black album is crap.

well... it was the combined effect of Metallica going POP and of them going against Napster that turned me away from them. I could close my eyes on one proof of them selling out but with TWO i can't. Their music is probably still good - but i wouldn't know cuz i stopped listening to it.

Me thinks we are even bitchier when it comes to artists that do actually evolve...

About Metallica, they were a class act until producer Bob Rock stepped in imo (Black Album)...From out of nowhere I didn't give any @!#$ about Metallica anymore, hated the new album and sound and moved on...and yes I do say they are crap and sold out by choosing the imo wrong direction. Nothing disrespectful just an opinion...Maybe even a fair right as paying customer to bitch and moan if an album does not live up to OUR or MY expectations...We are not numb sheep in a cattle...

We can dump the review section if all negative opinions about music are worthless or disgraceful to the artists...We bought the damn thing based on repuation so if I think the new direction or a lack of direction is not exactly what I was hoping for...me thinks I should be able to ventilate my opinion...Its your problem if you can't live with that, not mine...

Regardless if one makes music themselves or not...I wonder if journalists and reviewers for Rolling Stone or NME for example are great songwriters or musicians themselves...Probably not, so that argument is a non starter...

for me there is a difference between bitching at artists and doing a negative review/critize the artists. it's absolutely clear that not all the people like the same stuff. but is it really necessary that you call artist assholes or other stuff just because they make music you don't like or because they changed they style in a direction you don't appreciate? with this attitude i have a big problem. a lot of people act as if the artists personally insult them when they make an album/track they don't like. they forget that there actually are people who might like stuff they don't. there's absolutely nothing against negative comments/reviews but there should be some respect in it. nobody forces you to buy stuff you don't like and you should have in mind that no artist can satisfy every listener.

How dare any of us tell an artist how he/she should think and feel?

I do not at all understand why people wan't to tell the artists how to make music and to me it's quite pointless. If i don't like the music I won't buy it....it's that simple!

On the 2nd note (sorry) :-)

I make music to satisfy myself not anyone else and to express my feelings and I do not expect people to buy my music if the don't like it! - All I ask for (as an artist) is some respect for my talent and ideas.

I would never tell another artist that they are bad musicians or make crap music.

I see MileS point, and Tatsu's, and I think the key argument is precisely that people AREN'T basing their reviews on the quality of an album, but on an album sounding like a previous album (disliked by some people) and sounding different (disliked by other people).

Two prime examples: Some people complain a lot about Infected Mushroom changing style between The Gathering and Classical Mushroom. Then other people complain about GMS precisely because the style DOESN'T change. And the comment by Mike D basically was along the lines that "you can't have your cake and eat it too". Not that you can't review albums or find that they're less satisfying, etc. Just that, just because a melodic band does a minimal album or vice versa does not give you the right to bitch as if you owned the band. Sure, you can hate the album, and tell everyone, but that's your perogative as a consumer, and just as important is that changing styles is the perogative of the artist.

I find this personally a lot with people who hate Shpongle saying "Simon, quit making your ambient crap and make us some psy!". Look, artists will make what they want to make. If they make something because their listeners are bitching about their recent stuff, that's not "artist responsiveness", that's "being a $ellout".

'Course if they do it to put dinner on the table, I'm not gonna stop them from being a sellout either. I will bitch about it, though (once again, my perogative).

And Lars is the one who really destroyed that band.

lars destroyed the band???....he created them so i don't

know how peolple come to this idea.....

unfortunately cliff burton died in an accident and that was the

end of metallica.....jason doesn't come close to cliff....

problem is time is evolving and the old fellas are trying to cling

on to what is left.....they should just rename and go a totally

different direction IMO.....

Hehe...I read an article shortly after they "went wrong" where I think Lars said if he had his druthers he'd change the name to "Rocktallica". Lars did make the band, but he then proceeded to convince everyone to make less metallic and more conventional rock music. The guy has always been more interested in fame than music itself.
