Children
Do u think Banco De Gaia albums are off topic on this site or should be reviewed here ?
shpongled
I think they would fit in chill-out section very well.

bomble
I'd be happy to review some for the chillout section - I have most of his albums. The reason that I didn't is because to me Banco de Gaia and groups like Loop Guru, FSOL, The Orb etc. etc. are great chillout music but there are so many of them and they aren't usually released on psy-oriented labels. bomble
Guest Setsuko
If eat Static is reviewed here , then 'Banco De Gaia' and 'Amorphous Androgynous' too .........
Strumpling
Bomble - are there any other Loop Guru albums as cool as Loop Bites Dog? I purchased "Moksha (peel to reveal)" and "Amrita (All These And The Japanese Soup Warriors)" and didn't find them NEARLY as "fun" -=- Matt/Strumpling -=- i rarely hear people who've listened to loop guru (well nobody who ever TALKS about loop guru anyway....) Guest AutoMath
AutoMath is in the bitchin-mode again.. I'm sorry. First of all. This is not directed to any of you guys here above. But this thread just gave me the opportunity to realise and pinpoint down what sometimes bothers me int his otherwise truly great and very friendly forum. It is the rediculous philosophy that sometimes can be found here and in the reviews. "If it does not say psy on the cover, then I'm not interested." ... well, F U C K that. Well do you people who make this type of remarks think dj's limit themselves to only play things released on "so called" psy labels? Good dj's are looking for music that breaks the boundaries and if they find something that fits with their style even though it is on a label usually releasing another style, then that is so much nicer. The ability to make people go "What the f**ck is this?!" and take something unexpected and make a connection that is there in the music but is maybe not seen on first glance (first listen) is a tremendous ablility and a sign of a truly creative, dedicated and good dj. That was the way this scene was originally created. Never forget that!! To take things out of their context to put them together in a new way is usually how new styles develop. It is very rare that that new songs just pop up from nowhere with a finished new musical context behind them, rather a sound is first created by the dj's from their struggle to develop the music in their direction. After that the music is made. People might go home after being touched by the music on the dancefloor and try to re-create those feelings they had experienced. So stop the hippocricy about being open-minded. Review and talk about all sorts of music that may have a connection to the underground trance scene. It's nice to see people making these connections and review so called "non-psy" things out of a psy perspective Oh and by the way. I don't believe that people into commercial trance wouldn't want to come here anyway, so there's nothing to be afraid of. Assalam’alaikoom /AutoMath. Guest snusnu
one link : http://www.goatrance.de/goacidia/ ... if they reviewed it, why shouldn't we?? Just listen to some tracks like Heliopolis... pure morning trance with tribal beats!! And IMO, Shpongle got a LOT of his inspiration from Banco de Gaia And last but not least, it would really piss me off if you sent my 3 carefully thought reviews to the bin!!! But hey, you run the site, so you decide 8-D SMI²LE

Children
Automatch : the problem is that we have to fix limits between underground & commercial goa, which is not always easy (Ex : Platipus), particularly when I don't know anything about the group I'm talking about ... Guest snusnu
MileS: it's the same group. I sent reviews of 3 albums by Banco de Gaia SMI²LE
bomble
Automath - I think that this is not Children's point. This site is not saying that just because it is focussing on one flavour of music that it excludes the others. The point is that if we broaden the boundaries of what gets included and what doesn't, then we run the risk of becoming non-specialist. There are plenty of places that you can find reviews of other genres of music, but to my knowledge this is the most extensive site for psy reviews. I listen to all sorts of other music, which I like and would happily recommend to people in the off-topic section - but not in the reviews. Equally, I have picked up recommendations about other types of music from people here - but I still think the reviews should keep a certain level of selectivity. bomble
bomble
forgot to answer you Matt .... I think that Loop bites dog is the most energetic of the Loop Guru stuff I have - but there's one which is basically one long pure ambient/chillout tune which is just right for a certain mood. It's called 'the third chamber' - let me know if you have any trouble finding it. bomble
Guest AutoMath
Thanks for the input, Bomble and Children! I totally understand your point. And this site is the biggest and totally best place for psychedelic trance on the net. However I don't ever think this site will ever become non-specialist. With a name like Psynews and a such an obvious direction. One idea that comes to mind is that we should create a second category in the review department named "Related", or something like that. But just as I made clear in my earlier post. It should only be things that relate in some way to this scene, nothing totally out of the blue. So when one of these reviews come up, e.g. Download, Dead Can Dance, some Kraut-rock, Psychedelic underground Disco or FSOL, Pink Floyd or something like that everyone can clearly see that this review is from the related / further-out part, and no one have to be dissapointed from being tricked into buying some non-goa. Also what the other sites probably cannot offer is a review of these off-topic records from a psychedelic trance direction. However Children, if there's a server-space problem then I totally understand. Otherwize, maybe you guys could direct me to some equally good site that deals with a broader range of underground trance sounds. /Auto
