Guest Dr. Krelm
I am hoping that maybe somebody here can help me... I am trying to get my hands on some of Tsuyoshi Suzuki's recent material that he has released in Japan under the Mad Skippers label. There has been a Joujouka album, several singles, and a mixed CD. I have looked forever and cannot find any online stores that carry that stuff. None of the usual places (Psyshop, Saiko, Spectralpsy, Chaos Existence, Chaos Unlimited) have it and I do not know any online stores in Japan. And of course it is not in any US record stores. Does anybody know where I can buy this stuff??
bomble
good question - though I doubt you'll find it in those shops because as far as I know Tsuyoshi left psy behind .... bomble
Guest Jikkenteki
The Joujouka album was a rerelease of the first one with a second CD full of remixes (unless there has been another one released since I left, which is possible). There have also been a number of singles and at least one mix album. All these are regularly available at Tower Records in Japan, so bugging Tower Records may yield some results. Tsuyoshi still spins at psy parties in Japan all the time, but he is basically spinning more in the breaks/techno vein these days. It still works somehow, but it definately isn't the Prana type stuff of days of yore. Now the Japanese psy-act you should be hunting down is Uni. I have seen them live a few time now and they are most excellent (even opened for Juno Reactor in Osaka last winter). There is also a Juno Reactor live DVD only available in Japan for the moment. Guest Dr. Krelm
I'll try Tower...maybe I can order online from Tower in Japan. To be more specific, a lot of the stuff I'm looking for is listed here http://www.godofarts.com/joujouka/discography.html I believe the Joujouka album is called "New Asians". The discography lists it as having been released in December of 2001, and there were a few preceding singles (and one just released). The mixed CD is titled "Break the System Down 02". I love the non-psy stuff he's been doing for years. Good for some variety. Psy or non, he still ranks as probably one of the two best DJs I've ever heard and one of the true innovators. I'll have to check out Uni. Do they have any releases?
Guest Jeto
I know Uni has a track called Sarasvati... unreleased...
Guest Jikkenteki
If the Joujouka album was released in Dec that would explain why I didn't hear about it. I agree with you about Tsuyoshi. He was one of my first discoveries that really got me into Psy-Trance. He DJ skills are still top notch and he is spinning almost constantly in Japan right now. I was at his first show in Kyoto after he moved back to Japan and it was like the homecoming of the long lost Japanese hero. That place was PACKED. I go to that club all the time and I have never seen a line out around the block well before the doors even opened. They were turning people away before 11pm. Nuts. Jeto, where did you find the Uni track? Actually Sarasvati isn't unreleased. It is on their first album "Uni" and is also on their home video (I have both). I think it was also released on an Equinox comp back in 1998. Towards the end of 2000 they released the "Spotted Mesa" EP as well, but hadn't released anything else as of the time I left Japan in Sept. Hopefully they've put something else out since then. Guest mE 1
Hey krelm, Tokyo Tekno Tribe is from Japan, it's pure 100% goa, i've got one of their albums/comps i like it, it's definatly pure and old school...everything old and filmiliar... Got it from Chaos Existence... need to reveiew it someday... blah... It's not outstanding, but it's from japan if that means anything... and I thought that was kinda neat change (japanese into goa? gotta be some kind of odd cultural anomaly). Besides it's goa and goa = 'd-e-d, dead' lol
Guest Jikkenteki
"(japanese into goa? gotta be some kind of odd cultural anomaly)." Huh? Japan has one of the most active psy-trance scenes I have seen. I'm not sure what Japan you are talking about ;-)
Guest bugbread
Yeah, Japan's goa scene is HUGE (biggest New Year's party last year was the goa new year's party in a big convention center). As for the scene being huge: ok, that may be an anomaly, but looking at Japan today, and considering that shrooms are legal to purchase and are sold at pretty much every street corner in Shibuya, it'd be hard for psychedelic music NOT to be popular. After all, everybody can't be taking shrooms and listening to Hamasaki Ayumi, can they?
Guest Jikkenteki
Hey, there are a few fine Ayu trance remixes out there ;-)
Guest bugbread
Yeh, but I doubt she had a damn thing to do with them By the way, how well is she known outside Japan? I figured she was as unknown as any other J-Pop artist, but then I find out the Orb has remixed her, System F has remixed her, etc. Is she somewhat known?
