Guest Subsonik
Hello all fellow ravers, music lovers, and anyone else reading this. I have a few beefs regarding the state of rave culture and electronic music these days... first off, OPEN YOUR BLOODY MINDS, PEOPLE!!!! I can't stand it when people slag off other forms of music, or act pretentiously about the music they write. I love Psy-trance and normal trance, but I also love Detroit Techno, I love Drum 'n' Bass, I Love Trip-Hop, Acid Jazz, Jazz, Blues, House, I love it all!! I mean, admittingly i have my limits, i refuse to respect any music or artist that was not made because the artist loves music (eg. Britney Spears, Nelly, etc.) If you REALLY love music, you will be able to respect and appreciate it for what it's worth, you may not particularily LIKE a style of music, but AT LEAST learn to respect it. secondly... people who goto parties and clubs just to get high are assholes! You people do nothing for the rave scene but give it a bad name and because of that police become too quick to stop a party for just being a party, also as a result of this, raves go deeper underground and therefore get held in less accommodating venues like decrepit, condemned warehouses with no running water. This makes things more dangerous for the partiers because they run many risks like dehydration. I may sound like some worried parent right now, but let me tell you i'm not, but it was because of the crackdown on raves in my area that a friend went to a party, and left in an ambulance because someone slipped crystal meth into her drink. What you put in your body is your decision and I don't think the law has any right to control that. As Well, I believe that all drugs should be legal so that governments can regulate them and make things safer for everyone, but until that day comes, if you wanna trip, take it elsewhere. Also, Don't give me any BULLSHIT line about drugs making the music better. If you can't enjoy and appreciate the music as it is, then OBVIOUSLY it's not your kind of music!!! That's all I have to say, except... I hope my little rant raises some SERIOUS @!#$, and i hope people e-mail me about it because that means people are actually thinking, and that is something that we need to do a lot more of in these troubled times, because going back to my rant about music, if we segregate music and musicians, we segregate each other. Art Imitates Life Imitates Art. NOW, I'm done. Thanx for reading, hope it made you think about the state of not just rave culture and music, but the state of the world as well. PLUR and may electronic music live forever. Ryan James Draga (Subsonik).
Guest PsiLoCyBe
Oi ! Some valid points and some not so valid ... which brings us to a point that will always come back to any discussion ... "TO EACH THEIR OWN" There are many like you that is well open minded ... be it to other music genre's/cultures and to drug policy, so don't be fooled nor pigeon hole any one else for you know not what or who they are ... or how they feel Yet, I agree that there are tons of idiots out there ... uneducated if you will ... and YES, they are anoying little shits ... so it is, ever was, and always will be. Make peace with that. You don't have to like it, but it's better to accept it than fight it. On music : I agree fully with the idea of respect to well produced, intellegent/well thought out, mastered and engineered music - be it in any genre. It doesn't have to be musically apealing (TO YOU) , but be big enough to give credit where it's due. On drugs : Drugs is not a popularity contest or an intake contest, but an experience you either like or dislike ... BUT ... what you do is what you do, no matter your reasons - if it makes you happy and enjoy what you do, then why not. EVEN if it makes the music better and more enjoyable for you. If you want to be a stupid, arrogant little prick then you won't last long ... in my opion ...
Guest mk-11
i think it all boils down to the person...... whether you have drugs or not, or what style you listen to... who wants to stay at home and get high for one???? - so you go to a party and communicate and dance and learn new boundaries........ i see 95 % of people at parties high and aren't being arseholes.... just enjoying the psychedelic music i emphasize the word psychedelic...... then we are in australia and don't know what you are experiencing...... and about making or dancing to music when on drugs well ask simon about that or infected etc etc or 5 million other party goa's.....i mean there music is pretty unpsychedelic isn't it??not.... i've been to parties straight and off me face and it is 500% better... you hear it more, feel it more, and appreciate it more... then again i am a different human being than you.... as long as you enjoy it and i do and the people around you subsonik.... enjoy and peace... Guest asdf
the first review of juno reactor- transmissions: "sorry I don't call this goa 3,5/10" or something like that man, what a great and insightful review that is! ah well people who care about "which style the music is" suck ass it's their loss, really
Guest psywarrior
I agree with you asdf. Categories are just a convenience when trying to discover where you are most likely to find the music you like. But some people get so wrapped up in words and trying to put something in a category. If they find that alot of the music they like is generally labeled as psytrance then pretty soon its about that tag and not about the sound they enjoy. If a song isn't categorized as psytrance or whatever style of music they are latched on to then they just dismiss it, even though it might be music that they would otherwise really love. I just think that is self limiting. On another note..what did you say mk-11 about taking drugs and listening or dancing to music, I just didn't understand and would like to know your experience. Did you say it was 500% better with a drug or without? I think it is good to be able to listen to the music either way. Anyway peace. Guest mE 1
OMG another "open minded raver" 'open minded' raver... uh... i can Hate all other forms of music All i want doesn't mean i'm not open minded. "If you REALLY love music, you will be able to respect and appreciate it for what it's worth, you may not particularily LIKE a style of music, but AT LEAST learn to respect it." bullshit, i don't have to respect somthing i don't like. That may be the whole reason i don't like it in the first place. Still open minded... "people who goto parties and clubs just to get high are assholes!" now.. this is a good example of a generalization... very insightful i commend you... Finnaly: open minded not = I agree open minded = I listen BTW this should be in OFF TOPIC (or mabye on a rave forum) this enlightened speech has nothing to do with goa. Also, i fuckin hate raves...still open minded
Guest lÿsërgïç
mE 1 : just to let u know, some people call any party with electronic music being played a 'rave'. and people who attend them 'ravers'... it doesnt matter if its hard house or psytrance being played, people just generalize. and he is reffering to 'goa parties' as raves. i think u over reacted a bit.. Guest bugbread
To make things more confusing, in Japan "rave" means outdoor party, and since the only outdoor parties in Japan are psy, rave ends up meaning exclusively "outdoor psy party". But, admittedly, that's not English, it's Japanese, so it's a little off-topic.
Guest --==MileS==--
FuKK Techo and that stupid DJ worshipping. At least techno gets full media exposure, is loved by the press, attracts many happy people in mass raves and is played by the money bitching popular DJs. Where is the respect for our little and cute psytrance? Ask a 'fellow' raver about Hallucinogen and a "what?' and 'who?' will be your best answer...But i don't give a damn that they don't give a damn so why should i respect them??? Yep I am frustrated and narrow minded...but guess what, I am not into your jaded standards. Other electronic genres can live without the respect of a goahead, for me ten thousands of others that buy oakenfold and worship Techno since Mtv says its cool... I am in this scene because I am fed up with all the other overexposed and overrated techno drab...go figure...And an unhealthy dose of hallucinogetics were absolutely necessary to discover that there is more than meets the Mtv eye...If goaheads were as narrowminded as suggested they woulden't be in this scene in the first place... Try buying the latest VA-Unusual Suspects in your local record shop, like I tried... "Sorry sir, we don't know, we don't care so go elsewhere..." "If we don't have it, it can't be good and we know whats good for you, DJ bla bla and Mrs.Doda buy their stuff here, you know' "We do have the latest Carl Craig with some amazing display of turntables skills...." "I suggest you check that out if you are new to electronic music..."

Guest bugbread
MiLeS, pray the goa scene stays small where you are. Imagine everything you said being true with "techno" and "goa" switched. That's Japan. Some people know Oakenfold, but nobody knows Carl Craig. He'd be lucky to get 300 people at an event. Hallucinogen packed a huge convention center for New Years. It's awesome, in that we get great artists here frequently, but imagine every stupid MTV type e-head that goes to a techno event at your goa party, hitting on eachother, chewing on their glowsticks, etc. Too packed and hot to dance at any indoor shows (S.U.N. Project's last live show I had to stand listening because there was literally no place to move). So, being big has its good and its bad. I can buy awesome CD's and hear great shows, but the ambiance sucks big time.
Guest 665
I mostly agree with being repsectful to other kinds of music whether u like it or not.. Since other people like it let them hear it and you hear what u like, it might sound very appealing to them.. It's all about individuality and taste... On the comment on drugs.. I thinik it is 2 comlicated to have it analyzed in a forum... I guess u can't say that people who take drugs to parties are assholes, or even people who go to parties just for them... Some take drugs because it makes the music dancing experience feel better, while others listen to the music because it makes their trip better... Can u blame either for wanting a different feeling.. I think u can't.. The first one is a music lover and the other one is a drug lover.. simple as that. I will only stand on a comment that I read and I believe is trully unaccpetable.. and that is: "bullshit, i don't have to respect something i don't like" That is so so so SO lame and selfish It's trully the things that u don't like that u must respect, Respect should be shown to anyone and everyhting whether u like it or not... I believe that generally the people that r in the Psy scene are more open minded than most people (not only in the music scene but generally in life) and that is because we got involved in a "movement" that embraces and repsects individuality.. Have you ever seen dress codes on parties? I haven't and i'm glad that there aren'tt... And than the music itself.. u hear sounds from electric guitars, to classic violins and completely electronic sounds... Some songs by psy artists have nothing to do with trance... And we keep hearing the music and going to parties.. not because it is played on MTV and the radio nor because it's a place were cool people hang out and we can show of our clothes and find people of the opposite sex like, some mainstream clubs (I guess this is a bit oversimplifying.. saying that people that go to clubs go for only the above reasons there r people that go there because they love the music) . We just go to have fun and dance our heads off. And maybe psy is not receiving so much publicity, because it's simply something than not most people can feel..... Even if i were the only person in the world to listen to psytrance than I still wouldn't care, the fact that I like it is more important than what all the rest of 5.999.999.999 people in this planet think. Guest bugbread
Gah, you gotta be kidding, mE 1. They're a little less exagerrated in gesture and volume of voice, but they are plenty emotional. Especially the younger generation. Nothing like their parents or grandparents (and, judging from the booming crime rates, I don't necessarily think that's a good thing).
