It would be wonderful to buy music but for some reasons(mainly economic factors) it is not possible for everybody........

PRICES OF THE CDS MUST FALL !

CAN YOU READ THAT DISTRIBUTORS _ LABELS _ ARTISTS_ORGANIZERS_ WHATEVER_????

For me and many many people it is robbery to Spend 25-35 euro for a CD! Many People cant AFFORD THAT....IT IS BAD ! I only Buy 2-3 cds per month and many other people donot consider of buying any ..... I am a student .... i love music ... i love psytrance ...

WHAT IS THE SOLUTION ? MP3s? No Music?Less Music?

I download Mp3s , and i will continue downloading because this is the only solution for me and for millions other people around the globe...

On the other hand if somebody wants to be called professional Dj should have his own records -cds ....

and.. Some Philosophy ........

Music ,arts generally should be made not for profit just for personal pleasure ....

When Money and Profit and other Capitalistic factors are linked with a creation ....then usually looses its purity ,its Value.

Music(any kind) nowdays lacks from creativity and is repeatative because of 'money'

The best example is 'Pop Music'.or (Music for Making Money And Fame)....

Conclusion: We live in a world that everyday looses a part of its color and one day will become Black&White....

Don't give me that 'I can't afford it' shit. You're not even trying. Most CDs at Saiko Sounds are less than 14 euros, and both Chaos Unlimited and Psyshop are around the same price. You're just fucking lazy. No credit card? Contact the stores, they'll work something out. Or find a friend with a credit card.

And don't give this fucking 'arts generally should be made not for profit' crap either. You think people are making a profit out of this? Don't kid yourself, there's no money being made by anyone except the very top DJs. Record labels usually have to scrape together enough money from release to release. Most parties lose money. There's no profit in psychedelic trance.

Continue to download MP3s all you want, but if you're not buying music, then people are going to go out of business and before you know it there'll be no more music to download.

Tom,

You've made your point more than clear now, plz shut the %$#@& up now.

Mp3 can't be stopped. In fact I think mp3 and internet will be the future of music distribution.

First of almost all the Cds in Psyshop in order to come in Greece cost more than 20 euro...

I dont have credit card because i am student...if u dont have a yearly income you cant have credit card in Greece... Many other people on Earth dont have credit cards for other reasons , others dont have even internet connection... Even if i had Credit card ,20 euros is again too expensive for me and many other people in the world ...And i am going to post something for the second time to understand the situation MAN!

And this is not happening only in Greece.......

Pay Attention!

if for example you buy 2 cds(very low) per week you give =160 euro minimum/monthly, and now if we add the club admission for psytrance party we have:

25 euro per week = thats minimum... so 4*25 = 100 +160 = 260(party+cds) minimal expenses for the month. ...

the basic salary here in greece is 400-450 euro ... so you left with...140-190 euro to pay bills , food...rent( iam lucky i dont pay rent but many others pay)

So the possible solutions are :

1) Be rich somehow(lottery,family,inheritance) ,

2) dont go to parties and buy cds ,

3) go to parties and dont buy cds,

4) wait some years to get raise on salary,

5) forget music..

6) mp3 exchange + parties ....

7) buy second hand cds which is mostly old stuff....and go to some parties..

Imagine if u are student(which i am) , the things become worst ......

Music is a LUXURY PRODUCT why?

Cds are more expensive than food(meat, fish, vegetables) , Gasoline, electricity, water and some medicines...

And now something about PROFIT : BRITNEY SPEARS! MICHAEL JACKSON! PAUL OAKENFOLD! POP MUSIC! CLUB MUSIC! ..... and yes sometimes Psycedelic music ... everything is WRONG! Everybody wants to gain more and more .......thats the idea of everything in this world ...Power! Money!Fame!

U say parties are losing?

i pay 25-30 euros in order to go to a party and see a live event... (the previous week GMS live) are they really losing? What about drugs? Organizers make profit by selling drugs ? do they stay clean? are u sure? 3 fucking euros for A bottle of WATER(on kiosks less 50p)! GOD! 8 for a beer !

What is going on? Is that not Profit?

Anyway This is the situation here(Greece) ! and not only here !

Profit is EVERYWHERE!

They dontcare about profit in our little scene? Are U sure Tom?

think what happened to Elysium? That fake cd ...........is the best example!

and i believe it is not only Elysium on that victim list.... everybody and everywhere are profit hunters... that profit disease exists ,even in the deepiest underground hole... The world is full of this vicious and ego people.. they need more and more and they dont care for the weak....

The world is a VAMPIRE!

I'm 100% with you mate!!!!! My case: I have a job that gives me 340 Euro per month, i don't pay rent and i still can't afford buying all the music i want!!!! So the solution for me is: buy as much music i can afford and dowload the rest fo it!!!! It is obvius man!!!! you can't work just to buy music!!!!

To Tom - How can i agree with you about what you said about proffit in Psy-trance when i have to pay 30 Euros to see a projectband playing live!!!!! At least that's how the situation is in Greece!!!!

There will be a topic about overprised parties soon!!!!!

Just to inject a note of sobriety into the "art for money" vs. "art for art". No, profit should not be a prime motivation in the arts. However, if an artist needs things like: synths, cables, the ability to pay power bills, or other trifles like: food, water, a roof to keep rain off, then they are going to need income. The middle path is the best path.

Agreed bugbread but it's also a very ancient way of thinking and in my opinion a "narrowminded" thought that artists can't think in corporate ways! - I know many people think that an artists should only be concerned about his/her art - and suffer before he/she can call him/herself a "true" artist but here do not at all agree - Just imagine how many artists would have much better lives if they actually took control of their own business affairs! - artist do know how to put 2 and 2 together! It's a old and dead idead that they got no sense for business and why shouldn't they be allowed to make some good money? After all it's their work so they should also be allowed to put their own price on it!

I agree that the main motive should not be money but I think it's ok to think and be focused on the money issue that's so important for an artists to be able to continue to create!

well...

whatchya gonna do?

party costs 30 bucks

cd costs 25 bucks

some peoples rent costs 900 a month

people pay bills

people need to eat and stuff

people like music.

but...

artists have rent and bills and need to eat also.

equipment is damned expensive

they spend a lot of time doing this.

its a job. how would you like it if you went to work and didnt get a paycheck?

in the long run...the artists are in the right.

but theres no way people who can not afford to buy cds are ever going to not get it some other way if they can.

the problem is with people who CAN afford it not buying it. those are the ones who make a difference. and those are the ones who really should be ashamed of themselves.

i really cant blame some guy who has almost no money for stuff. it doesnt matter anyway. that guy isnt going to buy the cd no matter what. if he doesnt get it for free he wont ever get it. the artists are loosing no money with people like that.

I 100% agree ouroboros. What pisses me off big time is all the people in this forum that claim that they can't afford to buy the music...sorry but I do not buy that! ...How come most of them have money to surf on the internet as much as they do? - Most people with internet connections are middleclass people with a ok income... I am sure they can afford to but the music they need (ok none of us can but unlimited amounts every month but who can that anyway?)..... I suspect they are taking the easy greedy way out here - downloading!

Again I will state that I at anytime would give my music away to poor people which I actually have done and still do (an example is a guy in Jugoslavia that have no job or income a wife and a child to support).

So yes I get insulted when I see all the people telling me to shut up and to get a life and to stop whining..well I wont stop whining and I will for sure not shut up....Afterall I and many other artists are the ones that have a right to be insulted not the people that download!

it costs me ~$40 cdn per cd i buy. thats pretty fucking expensive. i'm 18 and i go to school and also work part time. if i can find money to buy cd's and records i'm sure most others can.

ohh well.. my random offtopic rant

Well, as I said.. some CDs are impossible to find, out of print..

So then I download them, if I like it I keep them and search even more for the CDs on the net, and when I find them I buy them.. if I don't like them I delete them..

But I still don't download EVERYTHING.. I buy many CDs/month..

So I am supporting the artists..

And Elysium, I have ADSL and my parents pay for it.. so that's why I can surf as much as I do.. I also surf a lot at school (for free!)

I get 1000kr/month = ca 100 Euro / month .. that's my whole income..

I don't have time to get a part-time job..

But that doesn't give me the right to download mp3s.. I know..

but it gives me a reason to do so..

I feel like a fool as well when spending more than 10-15 Euro on a CD

Especially when there are only 8 tracks or less.

My suggestion, unwrap in store(to make sure all security magnet's are gone),

be very careful about it, and fast!

and simply put it in your bag -har har

For vinyl: When listening, put the other (expensive) record in the same sleeve as the cheaper one, and purchase ^ ^ 2 for the price of 1!

This way I don't feel like such a fool

All valid points guys but one thing to keep in mind is that the track you are downloading belongs to someone and you have to respect their views because it is their track. We're just the lucky ones they've chosen to share their talent with :D
