Guest Raider
Recently I've recorded a vinyl-mix on a MD, and would like to record into a MP3-file so I can share it with my Internet-buddies. Does anybody know a good program to record into MP3-format? If possible, a freeware program? Here's the tracklist for the 74 min. disc: 1. Phoetus – Sparkling Soup (Version 3) 2. Fancy Vision – Supergirls Wedding 3. Absolum - On The C Side 4. Space Tribe - Kicking Up Some Dust 5. Logic Bomb - Sub Atomic 6. Psyside – Organic Blob 7. GMS - Zombi Stomp 8. Synthetic - The Mummy 9. Synchro – Kitchen Sync (3. Turn RMX) 10. Soundaholics – Beast Guy 11. Bamboo Forest - Unusual 12. Bamboo Forest - Experimental Jam 13. Talamasca – Psychedelic Knights 14. Nomad – Spaceship Trippers 15. Absolum – Drumatix (RMX) 16. Alien Project - Midnight Sun (GMS Remix) 17. Deedrah – Reload (GMS Remix) 18. Meathead Productions - The Big Ship

Guest Raider
I've already connected my mixer to the computer, but since my computer is slow sometimes, I would rather mix the set onto a MD, and then later into a program on the computer. Guest [tom jaimz]
Use a professional sound editor like Cool Edit 2000 [shareware from syntrillium] to record your mix to the hard drive of your computer as a wave file [via the line in port, of course, and watch those levels, anything over 0dB will clip, leaving you with a really bad sounding mix!]. Then use an MP3 encoder like LAME [which is only a codex, so you'll need a front-end, like RazorLAME] to encode your mix to MP3. For everything you need to know about encoding and ripping, check the r3mix.net site. Hope that answers your question.

Guest [tom jaimz]
Well, to normalize a whole set just use the normalize function of most sound editors. If the level of individual tracks in the mix is different, then you should re-record it using the mixer better. ;-P I've seen a lot of psy DJs have real problems with mixers - guys, IT SHOULD NEVER, EVER BE IN THE RED. Maybe one bar, but it should NEVER EVER be over 0dB. I don't care if it doesn't sound loud enough, talk to the sound guy.
