Guest ZaRAMaTU
Definitely Stereo. Avoid Joint Stereo, it can seriously decrease the quality of the track.

Guest akindo
And do VBR, NOT 192 kbit!!! If you use the right setting, you will get a file which is the same size as if you encoded with 192 kbit, but better quality. Where the sound data is simple, it saves (lower bitrate), where it is advanced, it gives (higher bitrate). I don't understand why people use 192 kbit only, especially people like the GEM crew, they should know what's best if they are an "MP3 group"! Guest vasyachkin
some less advanced mp3 portables can't hanlde variable bit rate.
Guest steve
@zaramatu...you're wrong!... Â Â this is taken from r3mix.net: --------------------------- Why Joint Stereo? Joint Stereo (-mj) is the best setting with Lame. This allows the encoder to dynamically adapt to the music and chooses the best stereo mode for each frame: stereo or ms-stereo. No stereo separation problems can occur in a good implemented JS mode, because when there is too much difference between the L and R channel, simple stereo will be used on that frame. All the frames that are encoded in ms-stereo benefit from the lower bitrate requirement and can thus use the extra bits for more accurate encoding. Â The underlying reason why you read sometimes that "joint stereo is no good" is simply because the Xing and Fraunhofer implementation is not perfect. Again Lame is much more tweaked and brings a good joint stereo mode. Another reason is that some people mix up the terms "joint stereo", "ms stereo" and "intensity stereo". ------------------------------ Â ..if you are using for example the frauenhofer codec then choose stereo......but actually there is no need to use an other encoder than LAME, because meanwhile it's by far the best one available (dozens of options/much much better sounding than any other encoder)... Â just look at r3mix.net for further informations regarding mp3

Guest Honguito
The joint stereo sounds quite nice for me
Guest Psychedelic AllabertA
Been using VBR since 1999 =) It certainly looks more rational to distribute bits when needed and not the same all the time... P.s. Lame, VBR 2 or 3 and joint stereo (no, not 2 joints on the left and right are enough for a quality mp3!
