It would be nice to meet you guys, I moved here a month ago and I don't know anybody other then my 10 hippie roomates. So how bout Saturday or Sunday night? I am probably going to the Digital Structures/Iboga party in Toronto next weekend so anybody that is intrested should speak up now.

Jonathan - Get your ass to this one tomorrow night (Friday, April 5) if you can:

A Record Release Party! Fri 5 TRS-80 (Invisible) • K-RAD (SomeOddPilot) • PAL:NDRÖM (Outward Music/Play) Analog enthusiasts TRS-80 are back with another fine full-length, Invisible Records’ Mr. Kick Ass. For this performance, they’ll be previewing material from the release, as well as debuting synchronized visuals that will accompany the live audio hijinks. K-RAD create an amalgamation of booty-based beats from a large bas(s)e of source materials rendered unrecognizable through constant process and manipulation. Never static, the compositions do manage to flow evenly, despite the wide range of samples, loops and genre-hopping breaks that occur within. PAL:NDRÖM, the alter ego of PLAY resident DJ BOB, scatters stream-of-consciousness textures across mad hip-hop breaks creating inspired, challenging headfunk for postmodern beat junkies. He's just recently issued a solid new twelve on Outward Music, a split release with DECAPOD CLAW. (10pm; $7)

I've seen TRS-80 twice and they're a blast. Real funky and innovative electronica. I can't make it tomorrow night because I'm working, otherwise I'd certainly be there. They're two keyboardists (one's a cute chick) and a drummer who backs the fat electronic breaks. Very cool.

These are probably the best directions from Hyde Park:

Take I-55 until its interchange with 90/94. You want 90/94 West. Follow into downtown, and once past the obvious skyline, exit at the Division St. exit. Proceed West (left turn) until Western Avenue. Turn left on Western (travelling South) until you find 1035 N. Western (three blocks). The Empty Bottle will be on the left side of the street.

So basically: Division and Western. 1035 N. Western. Cool place. :) Per

Thanks for the heads up. I don't think I am going to make it to that first party, just saw the message right now, and I already have plans to go and get drunk for free at my friend's bar, LUSH, a real dump but you can't argue with underage drinking for free. About Robert Rich, never heard of him, but it sounds really cool, looking foward to it. I guess we will talk about it soon. Have a good weekend.

Too bad you'll miss TRS-80. Great show. Keep an eye out for them - they're from Chicago and play here every once in a while.

Robert Rich is one of the top three or so ambient maestros on the scene. His first albums from 10+ years ago were light and new agey (like a lot of the ambient from that time), but he evolved a very conceptual, very dark and very atmospheric style. Many consider "A Troubled Resting Place" to be his best, if you're curious. He just released one called Bestiary that is somewhat less organic and more electronic than usual, but still maintains that classic Rich atmosphere. Yeah, let's talk about it soon. :)
