Guest Mike D
Psytrance is techno, if you like at this definition of techno from www.dictionary.com. So, this means that whilst psytrance has it's particuluar spiritual and emotional envelopes and history, we should not complain of the more techno-ish music such as Delta/X-Dream/Wizzy Noise because it is all under the one unmbrella at the end of the day, all though most of you are to uptight to see this: tech·no Pronunciation Key (tkn) n. Any of various styles of dance music characterized by electronic sounds and a high-energy, rhythmic beat. sounds kinda like psytrance to me no? Guest bugbread
Uh...yes...and no. Psytrance IS techno (though I understand in America now people say "electro"). But when people talk about "techno" in relation to the new psy sound, they don't mean "techno" in general, that would be silly (Like saying "I don't like the new sugar influence in my chocolate"). They mean "techno" in the pure techno sense. It all gets confusing because there are a billion subgenres of techno (DnB, Psy, Happy, House, etc.) and one of the subgenres of techno is...Techno. I think it's the subgenre that people don't like. Just because they share the same name doesn't mean we should like one because we like the other, any more than I should like American Skinheads (generally (but not always) racist assholes) because I like UK Skinheads (many of whom are black) Mike D, you're going to have to realize eventually that people's likes and dislikes aren't generally based on theory, ideology, or definitions, but on what they like and dislike. If someone dislikes the sound of new X-Dream, telling them that logically they should like it isn't going to change anything. Hell, if that were true, the entire world would like Britney Spears because many people tell other people that they "should".
Guest phaeton
wow, that's some seriously fuzzy logic you've got going there mike ... interesting, using the dictionary as a standard on how to think and live your life .. never thought of that before, let's just say it is a refreshing theory
Guest Elysium Project
Techno is not a word explaining a genre or sub genre but a word explaining a overall music (eurotrance, big beat, detroit, dance, goa- psytrance ect. ect.) that make use of electronic instruments.
