anyone had any experiences of the parties in Thailand ? Is it dangerous at all on any of the small islands where some of the parties are held. The NYE ones looks cool but its going to have to wait till next year i think.

Dangerous why? I was planning on going this summer but all plains failed because war was going on so I had to calm down. Why dangerous? I'm really interested to know more...

well I was thinking of more the kidnapings in Malaysia . Thailand borders with Malaysia in the South which actually looks like he nicest place to go so i was just wondering if there are any troubles in the area. I could image there might be as i think Malaysia is predominanty Islamic and Thailand is mostly Buddist.

There is no political trouble in Thailand.

I have been there a number of times and have never even heard of any trouble such as this from any one I have met.

The islands in the south have nothing to do with politics and the people there are not too concerned with outside mayhem, as u will see once u go there.

Beautiful times ahead...

I just wanted to write in and say that after travelling through Thailand numerous times I have ALWAYS found it to be one of the friendliest, most hospitable beautiful South East Asian country...

The regular Full Moon parties are getting too commercial but still good...but this New Years ....KOH PHANGAN 2002 will be AMAZING.....its expensive sure but the location.....the MUSIC....and the people will make it work!

Thailand is one of the last places that can really still offer FULL BEACH STYLE events....that rock....and with the list of Psy DJ's and Acts set to play.....i don't see how this can't be one of the BEST NEW YEAR'S PARTIES Thailand has ever seen.....

Peace and SEE YA'S THERE!

You guys chill out, I have lived for twomonthsin Malaysia with locals and also spent 1 moth in Thailand, bangkok and the islands. Both are very safe countires. Malayis is probably hte most westernised of the south-eat asian countries, very friendly and easy to get around. If any of you are going I can give you mcuh info on where to stay at, backpackers etc, and nice small out of the way places. Thailand is good but bangkokmg sux big time!! Dont go there for more than a day!! Head straight to the isalnds, I went to Ko Phang Yhang (is that right?) which was great for partying, but I also went to another one with my old brother, can;t remeber. The second one was onylused for a scuba diving resort, whcih i don't do but was nice to chill out in!! I had been travellimng with my brother for 4 months and it was here in Thailand we finally said farewell, befor emmeting friend and my girlfriend in Malasia!! There is a techno scene in malaysia, but i dont know how open itis!! And the muslims there are wreally nice!! I stayed with someof them, the very very local Malays, and they are very open minded and considerate!! Avoid Sigapore, very expensive and juts one huge shoping complex, Vietnam is supposed to be beautiful, my sister worked there for 6 months and my brother for four and they both returnn, saying it is such a lovely place!! Nepal is great as well, but mybrother went to goa last year and said it sucked!!He said it is so touritsy their now, full of wannbe hippi -ez!!
