Guest Smaug
I'm gonna say "Violet Vision - First Sign of Communication". What a great album. This one blew me away. Its not exactly your everyday stuff but thats what makes it so great. Its differant which IMO is good. The whole CD has a Shpongle/Infected Mushroom sound to it which I just can't get enough of. What do you guys think?
Guest Chong
i think the 2 Shpongle albums and the 3 Infected Mushroom albums and the 2 Hallucinogen albums, and also anything else that sounds remotely similair - the rest is boring
Guest dam10n
IMO the violet vision is completely unoriginal, very derivative and used a lot of cliches that don't work. One of the worst psy chillout album's I've heard. Shulman is much more accomplished and well thought out. Violet Vision have that vibe of laying-down-and-recording-every-single-sound-they-make which is always unimpressive. So, no, I wouldn't like to see VV highlighted )
Guest Smaug
Unorignial? You can't tell me you've heard something quite like the "First Sign of Communication" album. I know I haven't which IMO makes this album very original. Have you heard "Inside the glass shell"? Now thats one wacked out song. You can't tell me thats not orignal. All I know is on my Headphones these guys sound unbelievable. Just on a side note, Erez Aizen from Infected Mushroom did the mastering for this album. Guest dam10n
yeah smaug they have their moments, but i think it's very basic, shpongle-by-numbers sort of stuff. fine to be influenced by shpongle like a lot of stuff coming out now is, but VV seems just a bit lego-like compared with shulman... you heard that album BTW? Guest Mescalinium
I've been thinking about this a lot lately, and I really think it's high time to update the red albums. Some nominations of mine, in preference order no less 1. Union Jack - There Will Be No Armageddon I know some people refuse to respect the old platipus sound, but years later, this is still a truly beautiful piece of music. If you've never heard it before, you owe yourself a favor... 2. Human Blue - Ice I can't believe this one isn't highlighted already, an absolute classic in every sense, and so ahead of its time. 3. Son Kite - Perspectives Of... What can I say, I thought it was the best album of last year. I think it's silly that Ticon - Rewind is highlighted (I like their singles much better) and not this. 4. Tim Schuldt - Single Collection Sure, it's basically a compilation, but every track is a killer. Plus it's definately stood the test of time. 5. Vibrasphere - Echo Another album of the year (imo of course) and a debut at that. A true musical journey and a true masterpiece. 6. Saafi Brothers - Mystic Cigarettes and Midnight's Children Both of these albums are chill out/dub masterpieces. Mystic Cigs came out in 1997! So ahead of its time... don't get me started on the rest of the chill out section. some other possibilities (in no order): Talamasca - Beyond the Mask Beat Bizarre - Lewd Ra - To Sirius The Delta - Send in Send back Sonic Fusion - Confused Ominus - Ominus Biot - Saturation V/A - Footprints V/A - Otherwise V/A - Musica Psychedelica Scandinavica what should NOT be highlighted (in order once again): 1. GMS vs. Systembusters Selling a million copies and spawning a host of derivative and irritating imitators do not a classic album make. Matrix samples and a remix of Star Wars are but a few of the obvious mistakes on this "album". C'mon guys, we can do better than this. 2. Psysex - Hardcore Blastoff A modicum of decent tracks (mostly involving other artists) almost covers up the fact that this cd is highly repetitive and ultimately pointless. 3. Miranda - Phenomena A good album for its time, but hardly an all time classic. 4. I think 5 highlighted albums between Astral and MFG is a bit much. I think only Trust in Trance (and maybe, maybe Dancing Galaxy if you really twist my arm) qualifies as a classic, it being the only one showing much development. I've owned The Prophecy for many years, and though it does contain a few excellent tracks, I hardly think it deserves Red status. I'd settle for New Kind of World, if we must highlight one of their CD's.
Guest peaceful warrior
I think Juno Reactor's Transmissions album should be highlighted. It just has such an atmosphere, I can't shake it. It is one of my favorite cds and it is probably the oldest psy-trance cd in the review section. Can you say classic? Come on guys this deserves to be highlighted if only because it is Juno Reactor and is probably the first psy-trance cd ever. Who's with me? Guest Mescalinium
i'm definately with you on that one, peaceful warrior... i have no qualms with highlighting every juno album ;o)
Otto Matta
I'm with you on that one too, PW. Transmissions is at the top of my Should Be Classics list. Also: Etnica - Equator Spirallianz - Blast Food Although I'm not as familiar with the album, I get the feeling that Oforia's Delerious should be red as well. Guest bugbread
Well, the highlit entries are decided by vote every once-in-a-while, so try to get people to listen to the albums you like, and if everyone votes for it, it will be highlighted. If it isn't highlighted, it means the masses don't support it. That might be frustrating, but if you listen to Psy you should already be used to having minority musical tastes. Guest fuzzhead
Well here is my vote: Muses Rapt - Spiritual Healing this one should not be highlighted, it is not really good at all, very disappointed.
Guest oa
VV was cool at first listen but blahd me out pretty quick. Thers plenty of other non-psytrance out there that i find much more enjoyable. Highlights - BP empire - the first was good the second was great the third was great. IM gets better and better: shoot me, but thats what i think. Shongle - bth albums , although this album blows away the previous. Maybe they shouldnt be compared as the same style. Lost of sampling that they know how to do and it all sounds wonderful. Psysex the first one for LSDance, Bioninc bong and one of my favorite trance trax ever - Alienpanic" -there new style is very original and thier skills are ever present in thier music. Atmos - Headcleaner - So beautiful to sit back and listen to on a drive or whatever. It rules. Union Jack There Will Be No Armageddon The Delta Scizoeffective - Son Kite - Perspectives of. -Astral Projection Another World - Dancing Galaxy - Hallucinogen The Lone Deranger - MFG New Kind Of World - Celtic Cross Hicksville - Makyo -Eclipse i think alot of the hom-mega comps should be highlighted.
