mars
this is off topic but i won't delete this thread. usually i am very neutral but not this time. i'm going to explain the situation for people not in the know : yesterday in france was the first round to elect france's next president. 2 guys among 16 were selected by people. in 2 weeks, there is a second vote to know the president for sure. eveyone thought Mr Jospin (socialist, current primi minister) and Mr Chirac (gaulist, current president) would be selected and would fight in the second round. however, yesterday, Mr LePen (fascist) got the second rank (17%), after Mr Chirac (20%), and before Mr Jospin (16%)! socialists are totally eliminated from the elections. indeed security in france has become a real concern, and the cadidates who gave the most simplist ideas (left and right extremists) got (too) good scores...too many people believed them, or showed they were unhappy with current politics, and voted for those extremists. do those people have such a bad memory that they have already forgotten what happened in 1933 ? Mr Chirac is probably not the man lots of french people would have chosen in the 'normal scenario', but today, he is the only one that can grant democracy in france as a president. fortunately he is 'said' to win with 80% of the votes, as even socialists called to vote for Chirac and break the rise of fascism...but it was also 'said' that Mr Chirac and Jospin would both reach easily the second round... now this rise of fascism is too dangerous for everyone...this is not the french country i once knew. i'm ashamed to be french today! but this is not only about france. this rise does exist in europe, in the world. last night there were big meetings in paris against fascism. 80% people in france refuse the france that is shown to the world today. i hope we will show it enough for people to remind, and realize what they almost did. yesterday and last night there was also the big annual 'Effervetranse' meeting in a big place in paris. this meeting gathers every people involved into psytrance, no matter what is his/her nationality, colour, religion. this is a major event. lots of organizations and new groups get known, get credit, get united in the name of peace, love, unity, respect. i was there and i saw everyone had had his week end ruined by those elections. we all agreed to do what we could. so, first, I want to encourage every french people here, and everyone in general, to fight fascism before the second round of those elections, *and beyond*. we won't let things go. we will show the world that France will not let fascism rise anymore. we will show Mr LePen that he is not welcome anymore into france's political landscape. we will show we are a fully democratic country. thanks. fabien 'mars' / psynews. Guest nomad
"I am ashamed to be french today"..to mars..were you ashamed several years ago testing nuclear weapons in Australia's back yard ..if so ..i sympathise with you. The french have a reputation for arrogance which i have always found hard to believe..now maybe not. The arrogance came through when we asked to have the testing stopped. Mr Chirac ..well..if he is the best you have the country is already in trouble. I hope, for you the situation does not regress. If things get dangerous please send Yumade to australia for safety reasons ..good luck fr
Guest polymorph from Paris
Chirac is not the best we have but the public opinion gets so easily manipulated by this kind of ####. HIs tone sounds serious, he sometimes wears glasses and make new words up such as "abracadabrantesque" (based on nothing) to escape Justice. What happened to France! Was there a general brainwashing while I was abroad ?!
Guest mijis
the sad thing is that chirac is not the best election , i heard he is corrupt but agianst le pen he deserves to win . Thats what happens when you dont vote.

Guest nomad
To mad ..i have nothing against the french people ..just against the autocratic selfish nature of your political leaders who seem to care only about themselves and do not think of the effect on others..oh yeah and what gives the french the right to blow up protesting greenpeace boats??? my problem is with but a few ...as i said good luck france ...and next time you whinge about democracy, or lack thereof, remember everyone can vote. ps ..this is an outsiders point of view, and only that !!! Guest Elysium Project
nomad before you start to attack the french politicians which are no worse or better than other countries politicians you should look at your own politicians. What about the rightwing Prime Minister John Howard with his hard sick and un-human attitude to your immigrants? - Is Australia any better - no! - To me that just as sickening as lepen's politic and in teh same league. Personally I am wondering how Australia still can be allowed to lock up refugees in prison like camps that make many people think of 2nd world war nazi camps. This is not an attack on australian people just their politicians and politics.
Guest KS
if le pen wins, then do what the people did in the sixties. LEAVE!!! go to brasil, india, thailand and drift for a while until it all settles down... being of Indian origin, i have always had a soft spot for france, as they have always been the true indophiles.. best of luck everyone, in the end the majority will win. then you will know where you should be... honestly if a fascist is elected to power, then that would mean the majority like the fascist and hence, there is no place for goa heads in a country full of fascists.... however, my instinct tells me that the french are a good race, very simple and peaceful... and as a result le pen will probably be shown the door... chirac is dumb, but he ain't a fascist...
