It's just me, or this forum seems to be becoming more minimal/progressive???

Some time ago there was much more full on/melodical stuff going on.

Is melodical an "entrance door" to psytrance music??

People tend to like this first and then "evolve" to minimal/progressive??

What do you think?

ps : Give your opinion, do not protect the style you like the most.

I think that it is a matter of diversity. I think most people still listen to their good melodic stuff but have learned how to appreciate the wide range of music that is Psy. This very diversity is what really got me into Psy. The very first CD I heard was TSUNAMI. What interested me about this CD was one the quality and two the various sounds.

yes its true and for me too.At the biginning (4 years ago) I was listening to very psychedelic and goa music. Then I began to go to parties and to buy more and more releases. Its was inevitable to listen to minimal trance ,music that I hated before. Now I can support it very well:I love the delta, big bizarre...but I m a little nostalgic too.I you want to listen to trance today you have to stay open mind and to understand that minimal is the new tendance. You cant deal without it.

I think it has something do with the fact that there's a bit more minimal/progressive releases today than there is fullon/psy trance releases.

Yep...(I'm generalizing, but:) 10 years ago there was no "prog psy" to speak of, so of course 100% of listeners listened to melodic. Now there is prog, so let's say 50% listen to melodic and 50% to prog. If you talk to that 50% that listens to prog, they'll say they started out listening to melodic and then evolved to prog. However, that's just an artifact of history. In another 10 years there will be people who say "I got into psy in 2000 with prog psy, but then I evolved into melodic psy", and vice versa.

Amusingly, I have a friend who went from hard house -> psy minimal -> goa, so his tastes are becoming more and more complex. Kinda the opposite of the recent trend.

And most of the parties have the prog style so newcomers aren't aware of the melodic style which they might have prefered if they had the knowledge of it...

But usually when the party is mostly progressive I listen to lots of complains in the next day :

"I didnt like the djs.... The beat was always the same, the music was too similar"

I like both...

But at a party I prefer full on, and at home minimal prog.
