Guest v4K
Guys, I been on this site for olmos a year now and I can't really tell yet what is the real dark sound. I Dj an I play the delta, spirallianz/midimiliz, hujaboy, wizzy noise and some other "dark" stuff, but every time people talks about dark psychedelic they end talking about some sounds that I don't personally call dark like a hard bass beat which is not necessary a dark sound, so I would like a defenition of the dark sound please
ouroboros
hhmm... i wouldnt say the acts you listed were all that dark....hard yes...but not really dark. spirallianz gets kinda dark. maybe try zerotonine. i think theyre one of the more darker sounding acts around. give a listen to titanim cluster or pornostar and see if you hear any "darkness" there. maybe you wont, as darkness is a relative perception anyway. Guest Avogaden
the dark concept may change from person to person... and of course there is music that is slitly dark, dark, and very dark. I think every artist listed till now is kinda dark... Ouroboros dont mix dark with minimal progressive.... minimal progressive is dark night music, but that doenst mean that only M.P is dark stuff. There is full on music that makes me more scared than progressive!

Guest Setsuko
well , i always found 'evil playground' a dark and scary track .... but nowadays i replace dark by using 'mystical' ...
Otto Matta
I think the general definition of dark around here is synonymous with "very serious," the kind of music that made the songwriters' brows furrow as they wrote it. It's an amusement park ride that's not necessarily supposed to be fun, but rather is supposed to whip the crap out of you and make you think, "Auuugh, I want off!" But as soon as you get off you want to do it again. My own definition of dark would be something more like "scary" or "horror" which is pretty rare in the genre (Delta's Scizoeffective, Cydonia, some Schuldt stuff, Xenomorph, Semsis, some Juno, some Spirallianz/Midimiliz and maybe Zerotonine). ouroboros
Avogaden your right some melodic can be sort of dark. i didnt say anythig about minimal or melodic...all i said was that those 2 zerotonine tracks were pretty danged dark. and that spirallianz does at times get sort of dark....because they get dark not because its minimal. Guest bugbread
I also interpret dark as "dark/evil/scary", which means Schizoffective is pretty much square in the middle of it. My image of a "dark" goa party is in the woods at night with almost no deco, or very subdued deco, no lights, and very little fluoro (just accents). But I increasingly think that's just me. Strumpling
Listen to Tim Schuldt or Hallucinogen's "Gamma Goblins" -=- Matt/Strumpling -=- that'll give you a good idea of what dark trance is all about.

Guest helium
For me a good 98% of all psytrance I've heard I would classify as "dark"- very very serious and twilight-zone atmosphere thing going on.... Has become so cliched that I think most people don't realize what a cliche it has become! Tracks that spring to my mind recently as NOT dark would be: Psycraft- Life in Mono Zorba- The Rush Hux~Flux- Bring Your Own BIOS Wish we had more like this-- with that swingin, sexy, groovy, tongue-in-cheek, "phat" type vibe going on... I like the "dark" stuff too don't get me wrong but it's just that there's so little psytrance that has this other "not-dark" vibe to it... :-(
Guest lÿsërgïç
strumpling do you really think gamma goblins is dark sounding? heh i guess this proves the point.. its deffinatley a personal perception. id say; ubar tmar - rhythmism
Guest Rumz
semsis - most tracks slug- slugfest dark soho - most tracks xenomorph - many tracks Tim SChuldt - many tracks Viper - mood adjuster I'd say those are some of the darkest of the dark, but your right about the whole personal thing, my brother would much rather i had sandman on there somewhere
Strumpling
lÿsërgïç, gamma goblins 2, sorry ;-) and yes, I think its very dark-sounding. I blasted "The Lone Deranger" at my house on halloween and little kids were hesitating at my door -=- Matt/Strumpling -=- so THERE! ;-P

Guest PsiLoCyBe
I reckon Dark Soho & Ka Sol is dark ... some X-Dream, some Delta ... but nothing like Dark Soho !! I think of Dark as heavy driving (but fast) basslines, dirty kick drums (not that polished thump) & evil synths, spooky/horror feel to a track ... now add a tad of freaky psycho synths on the top and you have dark atmospheric evil psy trance ... *bliss* ! ! ! !
