Guest Soulhunter
Why are these guys so succesfull these days? Is it because of their lyrics? their refreshing, progressive sound? Or simply because they suck really good? I prefer destiny's child above this neurotranceshit. explain plzz...
Guest antic
I don't know why, but "Muhamed Ali" is hell of a good track
Guest Elysium Project
Well the fact that they actually created a new genre in dance music might be the answer.... personally I do not think they suck eventhough I do not consider their new album that good.. But just take the theme melody from Insomnia... That sound is now more or less used in every dance track. - more or less modyfied - They really had something fresh and new when they arrived on the global dance scene...Nowadays they really do not have anything new to offer... Guest dam10n
I think it's all down to sister bliss - she was a really good DJ ages ago, really knew how to move a crowd - I guess she just wanted to create something that would do what no other record could. Hence very non-technical music, they're DJs not musicians. Their live show is okay, but the rapper is a complete twat.
Guest Soulhunter
Thx for the explanation, Elysium, but their melodies from insomnia are taken/stolen from earlier trancereleases. You can compare it with the sherman-filterbank-sounds, you probably know, Elysium. Madonna used it for the voice-effect in one of her songs which was big a succes. 2 months later Cher used it also in crappy song (believe) BUT with the same voice-effect which leaded to another big succes. And now many other "artists" are using this same effect. So it's the same with Faithless, their sound may sound refreshing but it's a complete rip-off ! Guest Elysium Project
I was talking about the synth sound not the melody :-))
Guest Zhoro
EP, the synth sound in Insomnia is pizzicato strings. I don't hear that in every dance track or do you mean every commercial dance track, maybe? Even so, I don't see why that should be considered so original. I do like some of their tracks tho, they cover many different styles.
Guest RooMush
Saw them live twice in Brussels, and it's amazing how Rollo can get a crowd go nuts! Respect! That's why they are so popular i guess, the live is amazing!
Guest Elysium Project
Yes of course I am talking about the comerical dance scene,,, I have not heard of a non-comercial "dance" scene.... Anyway I do not think that anyone will consider Fathless a part of a underground scene. Well the reason why the "pizzicato strings" are original was because that sound became the "Faithless sound" and after that got massive copied by many various commericial dance acts.... yes I am sure someone have used that perticular sound before but not that many dance acts used it before Faithless used it. They are unique in my mind because they did something new to the dance / house music scene.... They incorporated real instruments into music and the live sets..... that has not really been done so much before. at least not in that scale.. Guest Flying Kundalini
Rollo is the real genius (or was) behind faithless NOT sister bliss... Rollo's old stuff like "hold that sucker down" was much better than faithless.. whose only decent track is "Insomnia"..........
Tatsu
i have two tracks by faithless that i really love: insomnia and a newer one called we come 1. those are both killers, the melodies are great and also the talking voice. i don't give a flying @!#$ if they are commercial or not, u just judge if i like it or not. the rest doesn't count for me. Guest AtomicCow
I heard that Dido is Rollo's sister.
Guest noctilucent
how can u not like God is a DJ? a few years ago, i remember, i was listening to that song 10 times a day, it was like magic those days.
Guest mogwai
God is a DJ is a bad song in my opinion. They just sound like a dodgy copy of underworlds pattented sounds but not as good. I must admit that i haven't sat down and listened to the full album in one sitting but from what i did hear i wasn't impressed. Personally i think they're so popular beause they're one of the few forms of easily accessable 'Rave' type music (Prodigy etc) for people who like wearing 'Rave' clothes (puffy jackets with shiny pants ) , enjoy going to Ministry of Sound nights, taking losts of ecstacy and actualy think god is a DJ (when really its the people that write the music that should be being appreciated)
Guest helium
i dunno man that first Faithless album is awesome...
Children
Some time ago I listened to "Salva Mea" a lot :-) Really interesting Track imho (particularly the first minutes with violin & the main part), even if I now discovered much better with psy music ;-)
