Basilisk
What do you figure the DJ's role is as far as mixing the psymbient styles? I've really been into albums from Entheogenic, Ott, Androcell, M-Sphere etc - but I'm not entirely sure how one would perform a set of this stuff out at a party, or make a mix for that matter. Correct me if I'm wrong - since I'm just guessing really - but I suppose the basic idea is to simply let the music speak, and focus on the programming or flow of a set rather than attempt any sort of lengthly overlapping (lacking beats I guess that's what it would be?)... I tried beatmatching some of the downtempo stuff and found that Robot-o-chan could work with Neon Tetra (for example), but one would have to cut out about two minutes of delicious intro - and for what? So I could say I were applying skillz, yo? I try to look at these things from a listener's perspective and I'm postulating that for this kind of DJing the best DJ is the one that you don't even know exists - one would simply want to hear music, seamlessly delivered, in some sort of journey, all with the smoothest and most subliminal mixing. What do you think?
Guest The Journey Man Project
It' about making it flow like a story, not so much about beat matching but the track selection has to be perfect... having been running and dj'ing at chill out nights in Australia if you can spend a lot of time mixing the high and mid sounds and not so much the beats then you are well on the way, remember chill out s for listening not dancing so beatatching isnit importan at all, for good example check out "Unity Dub's Voyage Into Paradise" http://www.saikosounds.com/english/display...ase.asp?id=2305 or http://www.saikosounds.com/english/display...ase.asp?id=4617
Anoebis
when I mix chill out I mostly mix atmospheric, fade in/fade out because most tracks have no beats the first few minutes... and if they do there is an easy trick, just mix some didgeridoo or something smoothly in it for a long while, let the beats go away very slowly... And then you can mix the next track
