recursion loop
Antic, in case you didn't know Psilocybian has made a great series of Ableton-specific tutorials on psytrance as Soundmagus. Unfortunately I'm not sure they are available for purchase though, but you could try to contact the guy himself (or in the worst case you can do the same thing you did to the latest IM album)

aximetrik-sam
Hello everyone! For quite a while a few people asked me for tutorials. This is my first one and English is not my first language. I do them both in English and French. I will get better at it in the future First tutorial is about kick and bass mixing. Next one will be about mixing in general. I wanted to begin with the very basics of a good track. In the future I will go into more sound design stuff. Just a little bit about me : I've been producing PsyTrance since I was like 14 year old. I am no soon to be 26 So I have a few tracks under my belt. Got to open for Infected Mushroom in 2017. It was the best experience of my life! Got my synth signed by the guys! I am part of a PsyTrance duo called Aximetrik and we are from Canada. I hope these help someone! Please if you have suggestions feel free to write a comment here or on youtube, or you can even PM me. I really want to get better. Hence why I will work on my English too. I speak too slowly haha. Thank you Edit : The mix between FL and my voice ain't the best. I apologize. I do not post-produce my videos. I record with a streaming software. I'll make sure FL is not too loud in the future.
antic604
Good tutorial, although it epitomises everything that I don't like about modern psytrance - huge focus on the technical side, to at the end achieve the same K_BBK_BB pattern that everyone is using... I personally prefer my bass lines to be wandering about and not be perfect with each hit, I don't care if my kick or snare are in tune with bass, they just need to sound 'right' and fit together. But that's me - if you read my reviews I'm always hyping the releases with 'organic' sound and I'm not very fond of the mechanical, clinical and surgically precise stuff. I can tolerate it with Infected Mushroom, because there it's just a foundation for their great musical ideas; but more often than not it's where the creativity ends... Again, good tutorial for those that like that kind of music. Just not for me Anyway, subscribed to your channel! EDIT: sorry if it sounded negative, but it's nothing personal - I really like your music and the comment was about broader issue that I see: 90% of psytrance tutorials are on kick & bass, 9% on squeaky laser sounds, while what I'm really interested in is the remaining 1%: interesting leads, atmospherics, composition / arrangement, etc.
aximetrik-sam
I agree with some of your points. I don't like psytrance that is not going beyond the perfect/in harmony kick and bassline. Technics like these make your track sounds "pro" and will sound great on the dancefloor. Then it's up to you, when you do this, not to stop it there I usually sample many bass notes and then do melodic arrangements. And when the kick is on the same note as the root bass it is so much easier to mix and it feels more musical, to me at least. But I get what you're saying Thanks for subscribing
Hasheeshian
I stumbled upon this while googling "mid-side processing psytrance" and found it somewhat informative but also sometimes entertaining I liked the fact that the information was written instead of in a video, video-tutorials can be great but they're often pretty short and in many cases limited to a "do this and it will sound good"-approach. It's written by a the man behind the "synSUN"-project which I've never heard of, but cheers http://www.andivax.com/downloads/eng.pdf EDIT: Interestingly it starts off with "I would like to represent you the free video tutorial which is dedicated to secrets of mixing the dance music", is this a transcript for a video? EDIT2: did some detective work and found this, seems to be the video:
