ProSect
Set:3 Iboga Records, 2004 Review Intro: A changes in the weather today probably caused a headaches to me. Now it's afternoon, sun is about to fade soon. My stereo played today mostly lounge and ambient music, but now i'm ready for some energetic music. The 3rd part of "Set" series from a wonderfull label Iboga is in... 01. Beat Bizarre "Brain Drain Rmx" Heard the song before on their debut album named "Lewd", now its back in 2004 with more mastering works on it. So, the duo start to hit immideatly, powerfull bassline and a crunchy kick. Great hard groove and loads of effects going from speaker to speaker. The whole atmosphere and the percussion works doing the job here. Rating: 8/10 02. Psyless Groove "Colombian Rock" New Iboga's act with a great tune. Pure morning sounds followed by phased leads, fading chords, warm synth sounds and smooth kick and bass combination. I loved the fell of it, and will wait for more works by them. Rating: 9/10 03. Bus "4 Those About To Trance" Gus Till with an oldie, haven't heard it, but i know which sound to expect. Metallic and hard, i would say kinda robo-groove experience. Lots of noises and metallic effects going around. Minimal but interesting. Rating: 7/10 04. Llopis "Centrafuge" (Son Kite Remix) One of my favourite progressive acts with a remix to Llopis track. Smooth, with a tribal rolls and looped acid lines. It really does the job, deep and groovy. Nothing groundbreaking, but yet it's a good experience. Rating: 8/10 05. Phony Orphants "Mission" This track differs a bit from what i've heard on their album. Soft kick and lots of synth lines. The track is really shrot but gives a good journey, very pleasing atmosphere. Waiting for their new album to come. Rating: 8/10 06. Emok "What's Going On" Here's some solid stuff from Emok. Pure progressive sounds with wide synth sounds and 80's chords. It develops slowly and leads us toward the end with the funky sounds. It's deep. Rating: 8/10 07. Phony Orphants "Global Wonderground" (Llopis Remix) A remix to a wonderfull song that can be found on their album. Same structure, but now i feel the Llopis touches - more housy and relaxed. By the end of the track it filled with more more energy. Good but no so special. Rating: 7/10 08. NASA "Legolam" One of my favourites on this compilation. Intensive, energetic and a bit hard on some sides of it. Goot percussion, uplifiting melody and some cool synth sounds. Way to go Mikkel, more psychedelia in the progressive area always fun. Rating: 9/10 09. Genetic Spin "Quiet" The cd ends with Genetic Spin. I'm not a big fun of them, but let's see what hides here. This track also got the psychedelic feel, but with a minimalism. Nice synth cuts coming in and out here, A perfect one to end this compilation. Rating: 7/10 Review Outro: Well, what can i say, a solid compilation out of Iboga factory. No real surprises here, i would like to see newer material on their compilations. But again it's worth it, it's one of the fantastic "Set" series and for sure will standout on the progressive market with some new groovy tunes.
