for all of you who have been waiting for new stuff from Sean Williams, aka Process, the new cd is out, Superior Technology, released on his own label. i don't have the cd in front of me now, so can't give a proper review, just some impressions. one: the tracks are mostly collaborations with different people working in different studios, so the album has an uneven sound to it. i think some better mastering might have evened things out a little. the sound is also a little tinny, without much bottom-end in most of the tracks, but christ, some of these tracks will tear your head off. the 2nd track with Benji is much like their old prometheus process tracks on twisted. track #4 is also a dance floor killer, along with final track "10,000 thrill seekers", which has one of the best samples ever (i won't spoil the fun, buy the album!). the album is very old-school in its feel, and very, very psychedelic. it has an organic and chaotic feel to it that makes it feel "alive" and which the overly precise progressive stuff these days lacks. for me the highlight of the album is the basslines. i think sean writes the most creative basslines of just about any trance producer around. there's actually not much "bass" in them, but they are constantly evolving and twisting and turning inside out and running backwards. no german "chugga-chugga choons" here. listen to beginning of "10,000 thrill seekers" just before the kick comes in to hear the most wicked bassline in a long long time...

(p.s. not so sure about the perfectly named track #3 "caner". the only thing i can think of is that they were trying to write the sound of a bad trip. if that was the idea, they succeeded admirably.)
